Not everything is available for free.
I also have damn well near 100k in actual hardware. What little I've spent on software is pretty trivial.

When my studio was less than 10k of course everything was pirated shit.

I'm just saying because I too have Virtual Instruments and a whole other load of libraries but all torrented. But I guess the amount you pay IS small compared to your hardware. Link to your sound cloud?

>>51516949
Maybe this is just because I've been using ST3 for a while, but nothing about Atom puts it above ST3 in my opinion (except that Atom is open source/free/whatever).

In particular, Atom really suffers when you throw larger files at it, and it absolutely crumbles under increasingly large file sizes.

Are there any features or uses that Atom really shines at that ST3 doesn't? Is it just that Atom is under active development whereas ST3 seems all but dead?
>>
>>51515490
If you're doing commercial work you can get screwed over big time by using pirated stuff. Look up what Waves did.

Also, if you really like the stuff a company is releasing, purchasing it can help them improve on future releases, or help them release more. Not to mention a lot of sample libraries can't be torrented, or can but it'll take you weeks because there's only one seed.
>>
>>51517116
Atom is increasing in popularity incredibly quickly, meaning a more active community, meaning more plugins/themes/general contribution. I did mention how it uses a web stack, so it's shitty.

>and that's looking to be better than sublime, bar the shitty web technology

The problem you raised is definitely due to web technologies and node being shitty as a whole.

AutoCAD 2005 with Civil 3D even though it's old as fuck now. Got it from my company back when I was doing civil and land survey design and drafting. At the time, a single license was $4,000.

I just looked and a single perpetual license of Civ 3D is $6800. It's robbery.
>>

I shit you not, web checkout, a fucking webapp used for.equipment reservations by universities is 40,000 USD. Top that. You might not be able to find this ridiculous fucking number because they don't publish it. You have to sit through a seminar and training and say you are interested in buying. I know this because we fucking bought it.
>>
>>51517145
Right, so the performance issue doesn't look like it'll ever get resolved, and I'm not aware of any plugins in the Atom ecosystem that make it super compelling. Maybe I just haven't imagined this hypothetical library yet though.

Is there a really great plugin in Atom that has no counterpart in ST3? In particular, anything for Node, general JS, LaTeX, Python, or Markdown? I'm *pretty* satisfied with the plugins available in ST3, but I'm perfectly willing to admit that I might just not have imagined some plugin that Atom users are enjoying that totally blows my workflow away.

Most expensive software that I "own"? Probably a copy of windows server 2008 r2. I got it through dreamspark though.

Otherwise, the most expensive piece of software that I paid for would probably be a video game. I used to play wow. That shit was expensive: base game + expansion 1 + expansion 2 + expansion 3 + monthly sub = A LOT.
