>almost 2016
>using an internal audio system

Why dont you just put your speakers in your case while you're at it
>>
>>51499677
Internal soundcards are inches away from a high-powered PSU.

Even with shielding, there's no guarantee your other components' electrical interference won't fuck with the sound quality.
Plus, that card is powered from the same source as all other components. If you've got a shitty PSU and your processor decides to climb to C0, your card's gonna get some shitty noise.

Best bet is a DAC obviously outside the PC case, powered by a separate outlet.

That poor cable

Buy a 90 degree adapter you fuck. I feel sorry for that thing.

you have no clue how:

A: electricity works
B: how rooms are wired
C: how digital communication works

Because PC Soundcards are a huge pile of overpriced shit

What type of shielding do you use inside your PC case?

I doubt that's better than internal stuff.

A DAC is better desu senpai.

What the fuck is that, SLI soundcards?
>>
>>51499677
wtf why are sound cards fucking crossfired?
>>
>>51501562
>>51501568
Looks like the second card provides more connectors, hence why it doesn't actually have a PCIe connection.
It's just a breakout.
Why they waste a slot instead of doing the breakout externally like on the X-Fi Elite Pro I have no idea.

they have to try /really/ hard to sell a "high end" sound card these days

still using my 2003 SB Live! 24bit PCI, and will continue to do so until PCI dies, i imagine

Ignorant fuck here.

1. What is the difference between amp and DAC?
2. I've only had a soundcard so far. What are some cheap but good external DAC/Amps that cost less than 100€?
>>
>>51502372
a DAC is a device which converts a digital signal to an analog one
an amp is a device which boosts the power of an signal (typically an analog one)

in the context of this thread, a "DAC" typically is a device which includes both dac and amp hardware

a dac (+amp) connects to a computer digitally, either via s/pdif, usb, optical, firewire, etc, and outputs an analog signal (typically also amplified, like for use directly with headphones)
an amp only amplifies a signal, so they connect to a dac/sound card's analog output(s), typically via 1-4 3.5mm jacks (1 for stereo, 3 for 5.1 channel, 4 for 7.1 channel)

quick look here. will give an idea of the flow.

>>
>>51502430

Thank you. So are there any good DACs that are expensive as shit? I'd just buy a soundcard if I had to spend more than 100€ honestly.
>>
>>51499677
onboard sound is suitable for almost every usecase.

god, those poorfags
>>
>>51499677
wtf is that shit, Crossfire/SLI on sound cards for twice the soundstage?
>>
>>51502836
no, of course not, soundstage is obviously the same
it's like set of lenses where one lens nullify other lens aberration, but in this case it's about reducing velocirotational density that main card causes

I have an early day meme card, the "Creative Labs X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series" that sits in a draw.

Would it even be worth using that over the onboard audio on my Asus Maximus hero VI or whatever the fuck it is I have.
I doubt it would work with Win8 or 10 but I'm using Win7 and its pretty tricky to get working on that.
I don't use the front panel because it needs connecting to the card with a ribbon cable so just nope to that.
Card has pretty cool features though.

Thoughts?
>>
Would a sound card do anything to reduce mic hiss when recording?
>>
>>51503046
Put it in and listen for yourself.
>>
>>51503159
I'll give it a shot tonight, got some ATH-M50's so could do a good compare I guess
>>
>>51499677
Sli sound cards with an aio loop?
>>
>>51503046
I have that same Fagtal1ty card.
Better sound than built in, more features, games from that era had loads of fetaures that still aren't seen in games today 128-channel voices etc.

Oh and it have MIDI-in&out which I use for my Casio 655 from the stone age in Cubase.
>>
Quick, I need anything that'll improve my current shitty pc audio. I've been trying to decide between soundcards/DAC's for a week now but can't pick any.

Give me any name of any good product and I'll buy it. Make sure it's under 100 quid though. I'm in desperate need.
>>
I don't really care about music. £150 DAC/speaker combo (Cambridge Audio Minx M5) is sufficient for my needs.
>>
>>51499677
I might get one soon. I need a way to get audio from my ps4 when I ditch my tv and just go dual monitor. I'm thinking of just running an optical cable into a soundcard.
>>
Onboard sound works fine for my needs
