Looking for a full size keyboard with a heavy aluminum case (either aftermarket or comes with it). I prefer dark gray or black in color. I'd also prefer mx green keys and I prefer not to have floating keys. (I saw a silver one on Massdrop, but it doesn't look very nice and the aluminum looks pretty thin.)

I don't mind if I'd have to solder it myself, just as long as it can be sourced from somewhere.

I've only seen this for specific Korean customs, and the ones I saw have strange screw protrusions around the keyboard case.

>Why do you want a full aluminum keyboard, anon?

I just like the material, especially when it's a sandblasted for a nice cool-to-the-touch matte finish. It's heavy, solid, and has a subtle sheen to it. I've been wanting something similar to the 60% aluminum case I got for my Pok3r that I use for my travel keyboard.

I own a corsair K70 and I've noticed that some of the rubber coating is coming off of the front side of the spacebar and on a couple of the keys. Are these eventually going to wear completely through? I heard that was an issue on k70s but I figured they'd have fixed it by now. It seemed like a quality mech.
>>
>>51501357
why are you recommending browns before clears? Its like you have shit and cake in front of you and thing how much you want to eat shit today.
>>
>>51501357
Well, clears have a more pronounced bump without the click. Likewise, greens have the click but don't have the actuation/release separation.

Browns are just very entry tier "I like to type, but I also like to game, happy-medium that really isn't good at anything." It's the most vanilla of all key colors and feels the most like a rubber dome (in how rubber domes have a silent bump midway in key travel, etc.)

Like you should really try out other key colors on a full-size keyboard with/without rubber o-rings to find out what you like most.

I like 2.5mm o-rings on green switches the most. Bottoming out is less than a meter after the click actuation, and I keep the click, while softening the bottoming out to a thud.

I used to be a brown guy too on my first keyboard.
>>
>>51501412
less than a millimeter*
>>
So if I im going to buy a qfr and don't want the annoying blues should I get the browns or the reds for mostly typing?
>>
>>51501438
Don't get a quickfire rapid, then if you don't want annoying blues. Or, get a keyswitch tester and a variety of o-ring sizes and try out blues with o-rings.

I would just get a tenkeyless Code Keyboard on Massdrop with clears or greens.
>>
>>51501462
but its 150 vs 80 with tax and shipping for the qfr is the quality really worth double the price of the qfr?
>>
>>51501574
Sounds like you only care about the price. If you just want a cheap mechanical and have a Fry's nearby:

>>
>>51501636
I actully care about price divided by time or dollars per day. The question is if the code will last twice as long as the qfr
>>
>>51501343

You can get a Filco and then a custom aluminum case for it.

To be honest, the stock plastic Filco case is one of the most solid I have ever used.
>>
>>51501636
Dammmm that deal is great if only the keyboards didn't look like total ass. I mean how hard can it be to make something that looks like the standard flat black.
>>
>>51501412
>Likewise, greens have the click but don't have the actuation/release separation.

Why don't they? They are just blues with a stiffer spring.
>>

Dear anons. I just successfully confirmed that the tactility of a switch is decided by the spring it contains.

This means that people who fell for the brown switches meme can convert their switches to clears or linear switches simply by replacing their springs.

The domes, housings, springs, and PCBs are all produced by Topre. As such, the feel of the switches themselves are identical, given similarly-weighted domes. I only have experience with the NT, but people say the RF case has a more solid construction. The RF caps are also much, much better than the default NT caps, but I guess that doesn't apply to you.

Let's see, a set of brown on GONS keyboards is 66$ (cheapest I could find, if you find something cheaper for a new product I'll lower the price accordingly).

The browns have been daily for about half a year. Does 35$ (+shipping, I'm located in Switzerland) sound like a good price?

The browns are currently attached to the PCB and metal backplate of a cherry mx board 3.0 in ISO layout. If you're interested I'll throw that in together with the keycaps (DSA profile I think) for another 10$ or so.

If not, I'll just desolder the switches (got a vacuum desoldering station at hand) and send those to you.

The price is negotiable, so let me know if you think it's an unfair bargain.

I'd also be willing to trade for something if you have something interesting to offer (a set of switches, some keycap set or anything else interesting that's related to mechanical keyboards)

Sorry for the potato image quality, I'll send you some better pictures along with a timestamp by email.

Cheers

true, kinda
In fact its the oposite of what you think. The heavier the spring, the less you will feel the tactile bump. So, no, you cant turn a brown into a clear by just adding a heavier spring, the tactile bump would be even less pronounced.
>>
>>51513444

That in itself would be absolute heresy anyway, the only thing which browns may be turned into are even further inferior switches such as reds.

>>51514947
Shitty keycaps, non-standard bottom row and dead leds, like all solidyear boards.

You did great.
>>
>>51512588
They have that drop up for Topre Skull Squadron now, so the keycaps thing may not be as big of a deal.
>>
>>51509239

I did a week ago.

Should be arriving today or tomorrow, will post about it when it arrives.
>>
>>51515592
the guy won't reply to my emails
>>
>>51513785

Fuck that looks good.

No idea what caps are going on my compact sq, but it will be months before I ever build it because I need to import switches first.
>>
>>51515901

I used the support thing on their site. They responded in a day or so.

They don't speak English. I got a machine response back. I had no idea it was a response at first it was so broken. I could puzzle my way through eventually though.
>>
>>51516063
Thanks I used the contact form now. Somehow I live in the same country so for once I may not get butt fucked (0 lube) by customs and shipping
>>
>>51516142

I didn't get any customs charges ordering from them oddly enough.

I have never gotten any custom charges so far (knock on wood).

If you can actually speak their language, it will probably help a lot.

They seemed pretty helpful and answered my questions pretty quick, even if it wasn't the most coherent response.

If what I ordered comes in a-ok I probably will order from them again.
>>
>>51499238

I really hope this shows up on massdrop. I don't wanna fuck with a Chinese langauge site.

Any reason I shouldn't? I want a tenkeyless with floating keys.
I never herd of Nixeus but you can see this is a rip of the Noppoo Lolita Spyder

Where can I buy broken/defective keyboards?

I'm looking for just keyboard housings and plates.

Anyone know of a good quality MX Blue Keyboard? Only switches I've ever really felt comfortable with.

Did the same thing.

Said fuck it and bought greens the next time.

Due to a different case (and due to bottoming out less), these greens are actually quieter.
>>
>>51516372
some guy on r/mk got it and said its decent.
of course he got it for like $30
>>
>>51517000

Got it through a middleman for around $60 total.

If you try to order from TaoBao it gives shipping as more than the board. Totals up around $50-60.

Their site is a bitch to use in Chinese though.

I was told they were closest to buckling spring because they were the most precise tactile switch.

I got fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked.

Thinking about getting a blue key Tesoro, thoughts?
>>
>>51516899
I wish I knew about clears earlier. Had to sell my newly bought browns because they don't accept returns in this third world country.
>>
>>51500011
Two great switches. I don't know which one I like more really. I'm happy to have both. Both are definitely better than browns and blues. And I played around for a minute on someone's keyboard... they had reds, didn't like 'em at all. But that's me. He has wrist issues and appreciates the light touch.

>>51503548
Zealios? What is that? I'll look it up I guess. Never even heard of it. I want to try matias click.

haven't tried Topre but I love buckling spring the most. Don't care if the case is big, I'd love a 60% buckling spring... what would that even look like? Or at least, I'd love a v60 style programmable layer on my buckling spring so I can use it like a 60%.

What stores have display models of 60% mechanical keyboards I can demo? I want to get a feel for one before buying one.
>>
>>51517781
My local computer store has like one of each keyboard on display to demo different sizes and switches. If any store is going to have it, that's this store.

Look for a local computer store (not big box like best buy).

Where's the cheapest place I can get a switch tester board from in the UK?

Not really looking to pay more than £10 inc delivery.

So far found;

http://www.cmstore.eu/parts-replacements/peripherals/mechanical-key-switch-tester-v2-free-shipping/ -- ~£14

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-MX-Switch-Sampler/dp/B00I0VX4VS -- ~£16
>>
>>51519340
what you think on this?
http://ukkeycaps.bigcartel.com/product/switch-tester-sampler
>>
>>51519340

You want one with a pcb. Otherwise you can't know activation point.
>>
>>51519401
>Coming soon
Also no mention of delivery charges

>>51519468
So am I simply better of buying a standalone numpad or something else like that?
Are there any switch testers that connect as a midi controller, rather than a keyboard? (So i can make use of it later without needing to bind keys to stuff)

Do you fingers get used to the increased pressure required to activate?

Noticing on clears after a bit of gaming my ring fingers started to hurt a bit.
>>
>>51499238
Where can I get ISO backlit compatible keycaps? Don't care if they are blank or not
>>
>>51519828
No. Thats why I did ergo-clears.

But clears are the only ones I really dont like, probably due to the increased resistence near the bottom. I have no problem with other heavy switches, like greens, alps, bs, etc. I think its due to the needed force on these is to go through the tactile bump, while on clears its near the bottom.

Don't really feel like soldering the pok3r and doing that.

Just gotta learn to not bottom out during gaming.
>>
>>51520120

They are backed up anyway. A few months for a restock.

Deep Space has been sold out since July at least.
>>
>>51519575
I got halfway down the trail before I realized that there were codes on the checkpoint. As soon as I wrote them all down and looked at it I was disappointed. I though that the code might be just that - a code. Not the fucking password that they set as "password".

i've been having trouble deciding for a keyboard to buy and i'm looking for some advice
preferences:
Mx Clear / browns
Spanish layout
backlight
shipping to spain not very expensive
i can give up on the backlight or the spanish layout but i would prefer having them, i'm deciding betwin kul es-87 or some ducky shine
thx in advance

>A few months for a restock.

>>51520481
You definitely want to give up on the Spanish layout, and you probably want to give up on the backlighting (or at least adopt indifference).
>>
>>51515990
>I need to import switches first.
What will you be going with?
>>
>>51520495
>SA schedules are fucked, yo.

February at least, right?

>>51520506

Thinking greens again.

But I ordered a switchtester with PCB, only ever tried switches on display models, so figure I will give them all one more shot before I build this board.
>>
>>51520641
>February at least, right?
That's when Danger Zone is due. Then Troubled Minds is due in March.
>>
>>51520657

Shit, so backed up to April/May at least.

Hoping they have some restock planned in between these sets, but probably not, huh?

I'm considering changing to keyboard from a Logitech Wave and with my budget limitation, it's either a Tesoro Colada for A$119 or CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate (extra $10).

Would want to try blues. Which one to choose from those two? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>51520811
Both have a nonstandard bottom row and the QFU isn't costar-made, so there isn't a clear winner here. Unless you look at the fucking boards, as the Tesoro looks like vomit.
>>
This might be the wrong thread to ask this question but what is the difference between khali red and MX red switches?
>>
>>51520936
one is a knockoff. With cherry mx, you are guaranteed qc where as the khail switches may be perfect or they may not be. If you get the board with a warranty, then you'll probably be fine
>>
>>51520955
Ok thanks for the quick answer.
>>
>>51520984
NP. Think about it this way: the reputable (read: quality) boards are made with cherry (ducky, filco, cm, corsair, etc.) and the cheap boards are made with khail (noppoo, razer, etc.)
>>
>>51521017
ok i'll remember that thanks again
