I am looking for a nice microphone, mostly used for skype. I currently have a headset I got as a gift and I am planning on upgrading to ATH-M50s. I don't want to spend more than $50 on it, what should I use?

i heard somewhere that all good mics use USB instead of the 3.5mm plug. Do they? Why?
my current mic is built into my cheap webcam and it is indeed better than another cheap mic that uses the 3.5mm connector

all good mics use XLR and you would need to use an actual Audio interface with XLR input and a USB or firewire connection.

Not OP, but any boom stand etc. would do? I don't want anything that squeaks.

You do have mics that work really well with a 3.5mm jack, but you need a good soundcard to support it. A mic I had sounded like shit on my laptop, but sounded god tier for it's price on my brother's desktop has he had an alright soundcard.

they are all pretty much the same shit to be honest, all made in china, all around 10-20 bucks.

I just picked up a random one and it works fine. They all use standardized sizes.

>wanting a condenser mic for home use

Yeah, enjoy it picking up every key stroke, every mouse click and every TV in the house.

What most people want are dynamic mics with a cardioid pickup pattern. There are some REALLY cheap mics that aim to replicate classic vocal mics like the Shure SM58. One such example is the Pyle-Pro PDMIC58 which goes for $10-$15.

Here is an audio sample from the mic: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0qVI1voP7dP

And here's an EV ND967 which goes for $120+ http://vocaroo.com/i/s105rCeTtpc0
