I bought a Steam Link a couple days ago and have logged about 12 hours on it already.

Ask me anything.
>>
>>51474166

I've run these games on it

Fallout 4
Borderlands 2
Rocket league
Civ V
Burnout paradise
>>
>>51474647
all of those are pleb games
>>
>>51474669

Sorry I'm not a neck beard I guess?
>>
>>51474166
so, what the fuck do you want? you're such a fucking casual you can't hook up an HDMI to your TV and play games on it?

steambronies are the worst. also nice typical steambrony shit game taste.

Enjoy your 60hz and input latency

I have it too, it fucking sucks
>>
>>51474166
My TV is connected to a old HP desktop running linux. How would the Steam Link work for me? Can I just plug the link directly into the USB port of the TV and chuck the desktop or what?
>>
Is it worth it?

>>51474819
If all you use the desktop for is streaming access to your main computer then yes.
>>
>>51474883
>>51474883
Ok thanks.

1. All video outputs are in use
2. TV is in another room

>>51474739
I guarantee I make more money than you

>>51474747
Didn't buy one. Look like miscarriage of bad concept designs.

>>51474764
1. For controller based games (non quick twitch) the latency isn't noticeable.
2. TV only has 60hz refresh rate anyway

>>51474768
It has its quirks but they will get ironed out through updates.

>>51474819
The link is not a steam machine. It allows you to push your video output to a networked television so you can play games comfortably on the couch or bed or whatever

>>51474876
For $50 it is. Like I said it has its quirks but valve will fix them in time and further refine the interface.
>>
>>51474700

Wat

Would you rather us use origin or god help us, uplay?

What do you have against steam? They simply provide a centralized distribution point for software.

People like you give PC gaming a bad name.

People who say this either tend to be insecure about their personal achievements or are generally 14 years old. I'm tempted to say the latter given you're a 'gamer' and I can't see any reason why an adult would play children's computer games.

You didn't answer the second question.

>>
>>51476454
It can stream anything on your desktop. Latency is about 15 ms (for video) for me and around 5 ms for input. Streaming a stream will be ugly.
>>
>>51474166
>ask me anything
Why? You're not special just for buying something. And you're just going to compulsively defend this retarded purchase anymore so why make a thread. Also
>Back to reddit.
>>
>>51476454

The link will stream anything that's on your screen so yes you can. Simply minimize steam on your pc and fire up a netflix window and it will be streamed to the TV. Latency depends on your networking hardware. Running on wireless is not recommended. Running on a cable there is virtually no appreciable lag when playing controller based games. If you were to hook up a mouse and keyboard you would feel the latency I bet.

Let's be clear as to what the link is for. It's for controller based games that you would rather be playing on the couch than sitting at a desk. It is not for playing Dota or games that are designed to use a keyboard and mouse.
>>
>>51474669
Then wats a good game to you?
>>
>>51476555

I made the thread because there isn't a ton of information out there from actually users. 90% of information on the link is from game reviewers who are known to be shills. Don't like it? Don't post, it isn't a hard concept.

Also I've never been to reddit. Been here since '05.

Steam uses Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) to impose restrictions on the software it distributes, as well as on the proprietary software it promotes via the Steam store.

Nonfree game programs (like other nonfree programs) are unethical because they deny freedom to their users. (Game art is a different issue, because it isn't software.) If you want freedom, one requisite for it is not having or running nonfree programs on your computer. That much is clear.

Free software is a matter of freedom, not price. A free game need not be gratis. It is feasible to develop free games commercially, while respecting your freedom to change the software you use. Since the art in the game is not software, it does not need to be free. There is in fact free game software developed by companies, as well as free games developed noncommercially by volunteers. Crowdfunding development will only get easier.

It's okay I guess. It doesn't work well for Fallout 4 because Bethesda doesn't allow simultaneously mouse/keyboard and gamepad inputs.

I've been using Steam Home Streaming since it came out in Beta, and so long as your network is solid, it's practically indistinguishable from running the game natively on that system.

Since I upgraded my wifi to 802.11ac, it's been rock sold, and looks perfect.

In the Australian summer heat, it's good to have my PC beast locked away in a room on the other side of the house to my air conditioned living room, where I do all of my gaming now.
Played around 100 hours of MGSV streamed, a whole bunch of games like Rocket League, Nidhogg and Gang Beasts for big screen multiplayer games.

>>
>>51492248
it's definitely a better social media client.
that's about it though
>>
What is it and how much?
>>
>>51490219

No brick just a small adapter on the plug. I would be terrified that TV would fall and kill me in my sleep.

>>51492265

Not bad at all. I think the link was reporting 5ms encode time, 1-2ms relay time and 2ms decode time. So call is 10ms latency in total. On a controller you can't feel it at all. Mouse and keyboard you can feel it a bit but its not bad at all.

>>51492334

Steam link allows your pc to broadcast your gameplay (or anything else on the screen for that matter) to a TV.

Basically it let's you play your controller based pc games sitting on the couch like a console. It's for when an HDMI cord from the PC isn't an option and it's $50.
>>
>>51474747
not op but i picked up the steam controller the other day and it's fucking GOAT
really kind of hoping someone makes a laptop touchpad with these kinds of haptics because they're legitimately the future. trackball mode is dope and scrolling with a circling motion is pretty sweet, plus the amount of customization you can do for gaymen is great. have not regretted it.

>>51474700
calm down son his use case is just different than yours. honestly i can see the use of it and i use an hdmi cable and my steam controller for gaming on my couch, it'd be nice to avoid long ass usb cords and shit if you want to use your actual keyboard while you're playing a game. it's actually my only major gripe with the steam controller and that's primarily an issue because of shitty developers.
>>
>>51482661
for games that aren't made by completely shit companies it works exceedingly well, i actually find it easier to aim with the trackball mode than with an analog stick. if you use the joystick as a left xbox analog stick and the trackpad as a mouse it's comfy as all hell, it's the best of both worlds. fallout 4's just particularly shit without because you can't mix input methods, which is literally exclusively a problem with bethesda.
>>
>>51492810
I know. I said that.
>>
>>51490219
It's a wall wort but it comes with international adapters. It's also a C7 plug so you can plug in a cable to make it into a power brick. Otherwise it takes up sockets.
>>
>>51493987

True, I forgot to mention it comes with every plug for the entire world.
>>
Why not just play games on a console?
