>>51460360
hello newfriend :^)
>>51460506
how's that indirect seconds hand treating you? still stopping completely for several moments at a time?
>>51460540
Not too bad really. I've not been paying close attention to it lately but I have noticed that it seems to stutter between 15 and 25 seconds. The accuracy has improved since I received it too, initially it gained around 40 seconds a day but now it's down to ~15 seconds. Not bad for a £20 meme.
Objectively the best looking watch coming through

Mine did +7s/d initially but after a drop roughly -14s/d
can I get a decent watch for $500?

If I had $500 bucks right now this is what I'd be buying. http://www.deepbluewatches.com/brnewdascttr.html
>>51460907
Nice cuffs, you should try buying a shirt that fits. You do know that your watch should be able to fit under your cuff, otherwise you look like a prick.
>>51461108
>Impplying a Panerai is meant to fit under the cuffs
What's an affordable movement that's more accurate than Quartz?
>>51461248
Nothing is more accurate than quartz unless you want a giant fucking atomic clock on your wrist.
>>51461248
You could get a radio controlled quartz.
>>51460380
That is a beautiful pocket watch
Tell me why I shouldn't buy a fake patek or a Rolex right now?

>>51460907
I don't get why anyone likes watches that big. It looks pretty silly, and it would restrict hand movement.
>>51461368
Because you could get a much better Seiko. Orient, etc.
>>51461368
Why not buy an affordable watch that wasn't made in India and won't collapse in a month? Far more respectable to get a midrange to cheap real watch then some knockoff
>>51460907
I can see where the crown digs into your hand.
>be lefty
>feels good man
>>51461368
Same reason you shouldn't wear a fake Louis Vuitton belt or Cartier love bracelet etc.
The people who know you know what you can afford. Even if it's a great fake nobody will believe it's real and you'll look like a replica wearing loser
Also, a big part of wearing a watch is knowing you could afford what you're wearing. Maybe I'm not phrasing that correctly, but the point is when I look at the Seiko on my wrist, I see a real, well built watch that inhad enough disposable income to afford. It was only $150 or so, but it's still an extravagance I bought for myself. If I were wearing a fake Rolex, I'd be checking my time on a lie, trying to project an image of someone more valuable than I actually am. It's just a shitty way to approach life, it screams insecurity.

>>51463284

>>51463306
I use it for my chem labs sometimes. It is pretty useful.
I want to eventually get a mechanical chronograph, but right now those are a bit out of my price range.
>>51463372
I can see how this would be useful for chem. My brother's doing a chemistry major and he has a university-issued "Electric Chink" stopwatch.
I actually do not really have much desire for a chronograph. While my job requires me to time a series of tasks in 0.10 hour intervals, ie the perfect chronograph job, I hate most of them due to the busy factor. I also like being able to wear a variety of watches from day to day. The stopwatch allows me to do that.
A Seiko 6138 like the OP pic would work brilliantly, beautiful watch, shame about the ticking time bomb movement. This Stowa's also nice.
>>51463310
The shitty Canadian dollar didn't stop me from ordering this at $309 USD.

Sup guys, I'm looking for a Submariner type clone for like $200-$300. I know Invicta makes one but I've heard they're kind of shoddy. Any suggestions?
>>51464870
Tisell 9015.
Ceramic Bezel, Miyota 9015 movement, good QC and customer service.
Less than $200.
Comes in Green, Blue and Black; but they will do custom combinations for no extra charge.
>>51464911

>>51464953

>>51464659
Thanks, ya penis.
Also, movement.
>>51464953
It came on a metal band that sucked.
The watch itself isn't bad for $15, but the bracelet was awful.
>>51465003
Oh sweet jesus
>>51465039
That's why I picked a $200-$300 price range. I want something cheap but relatively nice. That might be a little too cheap.
>>51464934
Who retails Tisell watches?
>>51465085
Only Tisell themselves; they're a very small Korean brand, but they've built a good reputation for themselves, especially with their customer service (custom orders, paying for return shipping if there's an issue, supplying Korea only watches at a request).
Tisell.kr
>Korean only site, but they have a few designs here that aren't available internationally - worth a look to see their full catalog - they will send you a watch from this site if you contact them via email.
Tisellkr.com
>International site; easier to use/order - you might have issues using the desktop web page to order (I had to use my phone for my last watch).

>>51465379
I think it's a SARB. Look the SARB series are great watches for their price point and they all have the same movement so just pick the one you like the looks of most.
>>51460907
I don't understand /g/'s hate-boner for Panerai. European history, in-house Swiss ETA movement and their design language looks fresh compared to Tudor or Rolex. What more do you want?
Is it only me or does the SARX look very angular?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxNnC3qRgLw
>>51465483
Panerai does have some in-house movements but ETA is not in-house. ETA is owned by the Swatch Group and Panerai is owned by Richemont. Also they are ridiculously overpriced. They charge $5,000 USD for a Unitas 6497 movement while I can get a watch from Steinhart with the same base movement for about $400 USD. A slightly longer power reserve and COSC certification is not worth $4,600 more.
>>51465579
It does.
>>51465379
it looks pretty nice, I'd buy it honestly..
>>51465417
this
>>51465379
No lume?
>>51465579
I'm pretty sure there is an Omega Seamaster that looks exactly like that, complete with the textured dial.
>>51465643
You're probably thinking of the aqua terra.
>>51465158
Kek, they even have a Nomos "homage".
>>51465705
The design has been around for about 80-90 years now, it's not surprising that there will be homages, but AFAIK the Tisell is the only one with a Miyota movement - the rest use either quartz or Seagull movements.
>>51465725
AFAIK, the one Seagull used is a better movement than the 9015 no?
>>51465737
No, they both handwind and hack, but the Miyota is a high BPH movement.
>>51465705
any GMTs in this bauhaus style?
preferably mechanic.
>>51465768
No, unfortunately. They only have a black version of the same model in their web store.
>>51465768
Nomos is basically your only option.
>>51465768
Nomos Tangomat GMT and Zurich Worldtimer are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Many watches pay "homage" to the Rolex Submariner, but was Rolex the original producer of that design?
Many divers have similar aspects, but I mean that exact design with that typeface on the bezel and everything.
>>51465655
That's the one indeed.
>>51465327
I prefer the sword hands of the SARB.
>>51465920
There's a bit of resemblance I guess, but I think it still looks much more like a Seiko than an Omega. If it was consciously meant to be a homage then I think it's pretty much exactly how a homage should be.
>>51466001
The hour hand in pic related is a sword, the hands on a SARB are dauphine.
>>51464911
How can chinks afford to make automatic movement for less than $10?
>>51466096
They work for $1 per hour, not everyone is america.
>>51465483
Most of /wt/ are too poor to afford one so their hate is based on subjective rather than objective metrics.

So do you guys have dailies for like motox, surfing, skating, biking, gliding or other outdoor shit where watch brand/style isn't a concern?
Might seem like a thinly veiled question, but it's not. I'm not rich enough to take my triple sensor Casio _everywhere_ but I'm thinking about a tough piece of shit that isn't a memelelxD F91.
>>51466414

>>51466749
Stop making me even more confused. ;_;
I also discovered the SARX017. The red accent on the second hand is pretty.
>>51465586
I agree that it's incredibly overpriced (although more justified with the models using the in-house movements), but I don't think people really care about overpriced when they can afford a 5k+$ luxury item, and most of them won't care about the movements, they'll just want it for the design anyway, which is also a good reason to drop that much money, as there is almost no homage (excluding shitty chinese knock-offs) of Panerai watches
rate 'em or hate 'em
>>51467014
But I dig the retro dial of the SKX007 and how the bezel sort of points inwards.

it's a model from the presage line, ref. SRP467J1
some sort of SARX015 replica:
- same case & bracelet
- different dial texture (pic related)
- different movement (4R36 instead of 6R15)
a nice alternative, cheaper and easier to buy outside of japan
>>51468180
That's kind of nice. How does the 4R36 compare to the 6R15? Is it kinda the same thing just with a day wheel?
Also I'm always surprised at how much current Seiko watches are around that I don't know of, Seiko really sucks at marketing this shit.
>Supporting glorious Russia at their fight against Syria with the purchase of an Amphibia.

>hands look like the designer has been touched as a child

Look, people like you keep swatch alive and it's bad. I do not care about your money but you could have get a way better looking watch for the same price.
Of course you will feel very insecure with it, since people will not know that you spend 500$ on a watch. So keep the tissot, and good luck with the low selfesteem.

>>51469487
>Not shitposting on /g/ from your watch
>>51465483
>>51466182
Panerai is probably the single most extreme example of a craven marketing driven mountain jew dollar extraction scheme in modern watchmaking history. They were literally charging several thousands of dollars for cheap off the shelf ETA movements in very simple to make and finish cases.
Someone on /wt/ once maligned Omega by describing them as trying to be 95% of Rolex pricing while putting in 50% of Rolex effort. By that metric Panerai has only put in ~20% of the effort at most. The rest was spent on marketing and celebrity endorsements to honeytrap clueless normies.

There is a very good reason for that, and it isn't difficulty since Panerai's designs are not very difficult or expensive to manufacture.

>>51469487
If smartwatches are so smart then why do they imitate dumbwatches? You could find some cool way to display time on a screen instead of doing the same thing normal watches have always been doing. I bet they don't even do sweeping second hand movement because muh screen refreshing would would cut few minutes off the already miserable battery life.
Got this in the post yesterday because I wanted something different from my automatics
It's also nice to have something that is (unofficially) water resistant and isn't huge
If your watch doesn't cost at least €25000 then you should kill yourself and find a new hobby like Pokemon card collecting.
>>51469852
Even those can cost quite a lot.
Everytime i open this thread now i get sad because of the scratch on my SKX013 bezel, as you guys said, at least i'll always remember that girl i stood with at the party and shit but it's driving me mad i think i'll buy another bezel.

if it's only the bezel you can replace it yeah.
>>51469725
They what?...haha, for 5000$ watch, people who suddenly have some money sure are hilarious (and sad).
No i avoided that shit. Here in germany people are shy to show off, they love that understatement shit. I usually hate this, but now i'm glad about it. They show off with cars and houses or expensive traveling. Watches for 5K are not a very good status symbol, cause everybody with a stable income can buy them at some point.

>having watches as a hobby
lol I'm not a midlife crissis 50yo fatfuck
>>51469819
You were saying that smartwatches can't have sweeping second hand movements?
Steinhart pls. They had to waste the Valjoux 7750 to make an homage to a watch that doesn't have the right number of subdials.
They could have replicated a shitton of good vintage watches that originally had the 7750, hell they could have made some "good enough" homages of ones that were Lemania 5100 powered.
TL;DR: Steinhart really blew it with this abomination.
>>51470288

>>51468225
I think the 4R36 is closer to its 7S26 roots than the 6R15. Decent movement with less shock protection and a shorter power reserve.
>>51468336
>>51468297
Maybe if we buy enough Amphibias, we can get a /wt/ Tupolev Tu-95 after the war is over, in recognition of our contributions to the war effort against the ISIS nogs.

So your so called "smooth" seconds hand on your supposedly state of the art consumer-mounted tracking device is exactly six times as twitchy as a watch from fifty-five years ago?
Now that's what I call progress!
Why am I seeing a lack of Rolex in this thread? It's the obviously dominant race.
>>51468374
The same reason righties wear watches on their left hand. To keep your dominant hand unencumbered.
>>51470288
Wow anon that screen was on for almost four seconds

It's a Seiko 6138. Beautiful, beautiful watches, but there is a very small, very important, and very delicate part that controls the chronograph function, and unless the chronograph has been left running for the better part of 40 years, it WILL break.

What's the difference between the 4r36 and the 7s26?
Is it just the hacking/hand wind on the 4r36?
I notice the new monsters have been upgraded.
>>51471575
>>51471611
They're pretty good for the price. Nice and minimal. The only thing I can tell you is to stay with the leather straps.
>>51471674
Why?
>>51471662
afaik 7s26 has some plastic parts and i think they solved that in the 4r36 (?)
>>51471387
Is Seiko even aware of how much money they could make if they re-issued the 6138 with a 6S28 movement?
>>51471708
you mean they could sell 2 watches to a couple of autists from 4chan

>100$
I admit that it looks good but that's not really /g/, more like /fa/
>>51471708
Knowing Japanese companies, probably not.
>>51471696
There really isn't much difference, iirc. The 4R36 is basically a 7S26 that's had hacking and hand winding added on top. It's not like the 6R15, where yes the base plate is the same as the 7S26, but just about everything else is different.
>>51471741
>it looks good
not really
but at least the date window is color matched to the dial :^)
friendly reminder that only faggots, autists and manchildren wear these and you guys are macfag-tier consumerist retards.
>>51471662
Those two features, usually of higher quality and less plastic involved. Power reserve is also longer. I'm not quite sure, but as far as i recall it also has better shock protection?
But it's also made by malasiyan children, but those who have slightly steadier hands and are better fed.
Though i prefer the orphaned japanese schoolgirls that assemble Orient watches and plesure Seiko-Epson executives for a part time job over skinny and starving Malaysians.
>>51471708
They could make a profit, but right now they have more then enough shekels to swim in.
>>51471696

Ok thanks. It will be great to be able to handwind/hack this one as my knight still has the ol' 7s26.

I really wish Seiko would just take the 7S26 out behind the shed and shoot it. Or at least stop using it in anything above the $60 Seiko 5s. Things would be much better if the SNZG and the SKX were using a 4R36.

White trash girlfriends have their points. My ex never asked me to buy her expensive crap, was a great cook and put out regularly. But then on the other hand, she was as dumb as the day is bright, her family was full of losers always asking me for favours, and her level of responsiblity was literal dindunuffin-tier.
>>51472195
Counting the fact she ain't a virgin, i find that statement questionable. And i've seen my fair share of tities and neither the small or the (moderately) big ones where as perky as those.
But if they are, boy are they nice.

I enjoy cooking and i don't mind cleaning but honestly finding a person that's like a lifelong best friend with benefits isn't easy. Though She was really good at first, plus she had a high paying job and she was somewhat of a cleaning freak.

I've done so in Japan. I've taken off an Orange Monster to try on a GMT Master II before. I haven't gone quite that extreme in the USA but I've gone to look at Tudors with a G-Shock on and experienced no snobbery. Blue jeans every time.
Difficulty is I'm 30 though. I don't know what would have happened if I were 19 and tried the same.

What is a perpetual calendar watch? Does it only mean it automatically leaps and correctly presents date whether it's just skipping from 30th to 1st or from 28th to 1st?
>>51472764
I have the same strap on my OM. Everybody gets that one.
(nothing wrong with it; it just amuses me)
>>51474365
Yes. It's a nice feature on a non-digital watch. Much more difficult to make.
The downside is if it's mechanical you have to keep it running or you're going to have a bad time trying to reset it after it stops. If it's quartz you're going to have a bad time resetting it after you change the battery.
Eco-Drive + Perpetual Calendar is awesome.
Is Tag Heuer really an unreliable meme brand? Many people complain it loses time, just stops working etc.

For me, I find it depends on the location. I've walked into boutiques in Toronto, Montreal and London, Ontario wearing a SARB033 and a pair of jeans. In London they didn't even bat an eye when I asked to try on a Submariner, they were probably just glad that someone other than the local crackheads came to visit. In Montreal they were a little snobby at first but then became extremely friendly when I started speaking French (like everyone else in the city), and even commented on "what nice finishing" the watch had. Toronto was the absolute fucking worst though.

I have to adjust the time like once every three or four days, easily done before putting it on or after taking it off
>>51474365
Annual calendar accounts for the length of each month except for leap years, so you ideally only need to adjust it once every 4 years. Perpetual calendar adds a leap year adjustment so it should be correct for a long time. I think normally they are only correct until the year 2100 or something though because there's no leap year every 100 years or something like that.

What does /g/ think of Nixon watches? They look nice, but how's the quality? I like the Sentry for a weekend/everyday watch and the Time Teller for a cheap work watch. I have a Seiko that I love, but I worry about it getting scratched or cracked.
