Yeah, for all purposes it's essentially ratioless as long as you leave everything in your client for a while. You can sometimes get into trouble early on if you download too much at once, but you'll bail yourself out when the seed points kick in, and that seems to be based on overall download/snatches so it stops happening once you've used the site a good bit.

So where's the security? What stops a user with an account on a private tracker from sharing the .torrent file with others? IP? MAC address? Authentication? I'm interested, really. I see in most clients creation tool a "make torrent private" button but I don't know what it actually does.

Your account is associated with a passkey, every torrent you download has your passkey imbedded so the tracker knows that your client belongs to you, and no one else. Futhermore, most private trackers limit the number of clients you can have at one time, so if you give your .torrent file to a bunch of people or post it on TPB/KAT you will be banned.
"Make torrent private" just disables DHT which means that you actually need the .torrent file to download the files.

You can but it isn't necessary. You get caught on public trackers because anyone can download the .torrent file and monitor the swarm. For private trackers you need a valid passkey as well as the .torrent file, and like discussed >>51457962, you need to be a member of the site. So the only way the MPAA/RIAA is going to catch you is if they have spies in private trackers. Those spies will be just instantly banned when they try to hand out DMCA notices since most private trackers have security measures in place to help detect this.
