Now how does this affect technology? Many companies have started spending irreplaceable funds on hiring people who can barely (if at all) do their job because of their gender/sexual orientation.

They're hired for their gender/sexual orientation. The issue is that, given that gays are less than 10% of the population, and even less gays are actually in IT/CS/SE, when you have 30% gays, you have obviously got most of your staff as out-of-domain folks.
