Hey /g/ so I just installed xubuntu on my T400. It looks nice and everything. My problem is that it seems to be a little slow. When launching the browser to even other programs. Can this be fixed? What could the issue be?

Bloated mess. Try something less shit.

Reduce swappiness

Lol I'm serious. Last time I had xubuntu it wasn't as fucked. Do you think a reinstall would help?

"my pc is running slow"

run a task manager, see what's hogging it
>>
Open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get isntall htop

Then when thats done, type this in the terminal:
htop

See whats hogging it, and kill the process.

That's a pretty cool rendering of the Xfce mouse. I'm impressed

the linux kernel is so bloated these days that you`ll need a decently powered PC to run that shit, even then it still doesn`t support a lot of hardware.

The days of installing linux on old hardware has been over for a while now. That`s why all the "lightweight" distros like puppy are more or less dead.

I hope you're already using an SSD? If not, there's no point continuing. Copy the partition to an SSD and try again.

After you try all the usual, logical things to try, you might want to check for additional drivers.
>>
>>51429327
its not bloated if you only compile what you need.

Total bullshit. The kernel is pretty much the only component that keeps getting more and more efficient over the years.
