You won't be able to use the latest, faddish games and apps, but there's a shit ton of stuff that'll still run on it. Even the app store says an app requires a newer version of iOS, many will let you install an older, compatible version. ie Youtube.
Does it still have the youtube icon that was just a television?

my ipad 1 runs too slow to do anything really, it just runs out of memory and crashes if I try to browse the web. too many pages full of javascript and a billion elements
I used to use mine for amazon video streaming of old shows and what not. The 4:3 aspect ration was nice for that and old stuff generally isn't hi def so it was perfect.
Then I sold it and I was much happier.

I sold my nexus 7 (2012) at the same time and got significantly more for the ipad even though the ipad had a broken charge port and a removed engraving.

I can't speak for this anon but my ipad had a broken sync port (apparently a common issue but it still charged fine) and that meant that there was not a non-convoluted way to get pictures off of it.

I would consider it convoluted because on a fully functional tablet I can just screenshot and either email myself the pic or plug in the usb cable and download the pic. I don't like installing apps if I don't have to.
Regardless, I don't have the tablet anymore so it's a moot point.
