Core 2 duo users, why do you not upgrade to a core 2 quad or xeon?
It's cheap and should offer a decent performance boost.
>>51428043
the 771 Xeon mod is fucking amazing I've had mine running for almost a year now and works great
>>51428109
They're pretty cheap too.
In my country it's not cheap.
I swear half the ppl on g are ausfags
Those xeons use a different socket. C2D uses 775. The only quad worth buying is the 3ghz one, 8400 maybe? Anyway it's kind of pricey all things considered. They've been $80-$100 forever.
>>51428496
Nigga 1/2 the people on all boards are straya, you think this is bad you should check out /o/
>>51428043
Why spend money on keeping an old system going when you can just save up for a skylake refresh/zen build?
>>51428527
nigga u srs
>>51428527
The only thing stopping you is yourself.
Believe in yourself and you can do anything.
That includes using a 771 xeon in a 775 motherboard anon.
Believe.
>>51428043
could you convert that to a first world currency?
I'm still using an E8500 from 2008. Upgrading Haslel or Memelake this month.
>>51428615
>>51428043 is 21.5 usd
>>51428199 is 12.5 usd
>>51428614 is 0.93 usd.
>>51428614
My mind is blown. I have 3ghz quad xeons 771 sitting around
>>51428640
2008? wtf, my processor is from 2008
>>51428043
Because if you're upgrading a build as old as a Core 2 Duo, it would be better to get a completely new build.
>>51429011
Let's see.
Spend $170 for an i3 + $70 for a motherboard, or spend $20 for a cpu.
Your choice.
The i3 might be a little better, but is it worth it for a $220 difference?
>>51429144
Well in the world of modern games demanding CPU power again, the $220 might very well be worth it.
Shit, in fallout 4 there's a noticeable performance difference between i7/Xeon and i3s, let alone anything older.
>>51429144
>$220
I just picked up a prebuilt with an i7 3770 and 12GB for $175.
>>51429341
That might be true, but I doubt there'd be much different between a core 2 quad and an i3.
The core 2 quad might even be a little faster when overclocked, depending on the i3 and what game.
Limited to 2 threads the i3 would win no doubt.
Also fallout 4 is kinda poorly optimised...
If it was me, instead of a c2q, I'd go with a lynnfield i7, can be had cheap as chips here.
I'd easily choose an i7 860 over any i3.
>>51429396
In what country?
New or used?
>>51429427
US
Used.
>>51429454
Yeah, everythings cheaper in the us.
This is aus prices.
I5 4460 is selling for $270 iirc.
I3 6100 is $180, i3 4170 is $170.
>>51429409
Lynnfield i7 is like 20% faster than a q9550. You can get the Xeon X3450 for the same price as a q9550, but it'd be another $50 for the mobo, and you'd probably need DDR3, too.
Though you can get Bloomfield workstations used for $150 and sell your C2D for $50, which would probably be better than playing the ebay lottery.
>>51428452
this
thinking of buying a q6600 but i dunno e7200 is fine still
might as well buy a new pc for that money
>>51429549
I can get an i5 2400 workstation for $170 nigga.
But for the average user should be able to get a sandy or Ivy i5 dell for under $300.
I can also get i7 860 for $22 and i5 750 for $15.
>>51429725
I should add though, I would get the i7 860 since at 4ghz it should be almost as fast as an i5 4460, but 1156 motherboards are pretty expensive nowadays.
