Why aren't you using freenet?

With the current upcoming of GNUnet on /g/ many users are stuck trying to figure out how that shit works. The indexing is slow and the whole network seems unreliable. Where do we turn? Freenet. Post friend codes here or resources which other users may find helpful
>>
I'm hesitant to trying it because I don't want the police to think I'm a pedo.
>>
>>51418830
reading the wiki article. It seems like a nice alternative until gnunet is easier to configure for systems. I was confused when i tried.

you /should/ want the to know that you love freedom, though, and that you're not at the mercy of their tyranny :)
>>
What is freenet?
>>
>>51419671
Freenet is a peer-to-peer platform for censorship-resistant communication. It uses a decentralized distributed data store to keep and deliver information, and has a suite of free software for publishing and communicating on the Web without fear of censorship.

Though, it isn't decentralized it looks like based on the article.
>>
Could we try a daily or general and start making friends from this and i2p and share files anonymously?
>>
>>51419695
So you end up hosting other people's CP if you join the network?
>>
>>51419747
It's anonymous and based on trust with the people you communicate with.
Even then, the gnunet philosophy addresses these concerns and it can be applied to freenet as well.

>The foremost goal of the GNUnet project is to become a widely used, reliable, open, non-discriminating, egalitarian, unfettered and censorship-resistant system of free information exchange. We value free speech above state secrets, law-enforcement or intellectual property. GNUnet is supposed to be an anarchistic network, where the only limitation for peers is that they must contribute enough back to the network such that their resource consumption does not have a significant impact on other users. GNUnet should be more than just another file-sharing network. The plan is to offer many other services and in particular to serve as a development platform for the next generation of decentralized Internet protocols.
>>
>>51419747
Yes
But neither you nor authorities can see those cp without having the key. so keep thinking of it as random data blob that helps the network
>>
>>51418830
Does freenet has a name system like GNS for gnunet, though?
>>
>>51419695
It is decentralized as soon as the first peer requests the content to the initial site.
>>
>>51419924
It's not fully anonymous like gnunet. So I would imagine it does. You can even find friends and send files.
>>
>>51419877
So this network will end up having massive amounts of encrypted data with only few people having the decryption keys for that?

Or is there a Usenet like retention?
>>
>>51419877
Is there a way to tell the client that I want to host text-only content?
>>
>>51420192
Old stuff that never gets used, will eventually "expire" as the client reach it's space limit. this means, the older and rarer the stuff is, it's harder to find seeds for and more likely to be deleted from the network

>>51420221
There is no such thing as "text-only content" your client only knows it's content. it doesn't know what it is without the key. That's the whole point
>>
Isn't Freenet kinda dead?
I2P has cryptonuts, and Tor has drugdealers, but all I ever see on Freenet are dead blogs.
>>
>>51420446
>He thinks freenet is about blogs
>>
Because I use zeronet.
>>
If this were going to happen there would need to be a list of files somewhere as there is no search function for uploaded files, like gnunet

>>

i'd rather not be hosting child porn

encrypted or not, i do not like the idea.
and its sloooooooooooow
i'd rather use tor if i needed that security but i don't
>>
DELETE THIS FUCKING THREAD NOW.

You niggers are ruining freenet, stay the fuck away from us.
>>
>>51420856
the FBI already knows there's more CP on freenet than drugs on tor

you can't hide it from us now

It's good software, there's just no content. Like four blogs that are updated monthly and a message board with 3 shitposters regurgitating the cpunks mailing list.

I'd totally use it if there was something on there I actually wanted.
>>
>>51420876
We don't give a shit, just stop going on freenet. You filthy niggers shit up our club with retarded websites and clog up nodes which could be giving more bandwidth to ark radios.

It isnt properly run like tor?
More members = more bandwidth

or was it designed by a retard
>>
Why are people saying the moment you download freenet you are hosting cp?
>>
>>51420967
Fuck off and read the docs.
>>

Killyourself nigger I want a simple explanation
>>
>>51420926
They're censoring that too? Dam, I didn't know they were THAT paranoid.

Holy shit, I need to trash my prepaid now. *sighs*
>>
>>51420981
unlike tor that masks servers

everyone connected to freenet becomes a "server node"

little itty bitty chunks of encrypted data from the ENTIRE service are stored on your computer (in a gb size you can allocate)

this data is supposedly encrypted to retard strength levels

but thats besides the point, if you are using freenet, you most like have some encrypted CP on your hard drive due to how fucking prevalent it is.

because its super encrypted, you cant hand over keys because you dont own them, and supposedly this can't be brought against you in court, but you never know.
>>
>>51421014
Thanks for not being an aspie and giving a solid answer. If you unniinstall does it clear your cached downloads or is it time to wipe the hard drive
>>
>>51420929
The more memers invade our base the more sekrit websites are built which slow down freenet even more and take bandwidth away from other places.

The niggers over at echelon are literally shitting up freenet with useless websites on purpose to fuck with our bandwidth. I hope they all get cancer and die a slow and painful death.
>>
>>51421032
its all stored in the freenet folder IIRC
dont need to nuke shit

but its also slow as fuck and empty

>>51421033
Amen to that, echelon can fuck itself to death in a fire
>>
>>51421072
Good to know. Thanks. It does seem very slow and having to have a key to download a file seems very unconventional. I just wish GNUnet actually worked properly as I love the simple system theyhave
>>
>>51420929
>More members = more bandwidth

Yes, more members = more storage, better security and better performance.

Since Freenet has like 16 members it's all shit.
>>
>>51421127
Better migrate the users to gnunet desu senpai.
Also it would be nice if we worked on making a new non-shit gui for gnunet and started populating it more.
>>
>>51419695
Sounds like torrenting
>>
>>51421145
run gnunet-fs-gtk

Much nicer
>>
>>51421032
>If you unniinstall does it clear your cached downloads or is it time to wipe the hard drive

The encrypted data is stored in a specific folder.
It's not "your" downloads, it's intended for others and downloaded automatically.

Anything you purposely download for your own needs is decrypted and stored as regular files.

The key point is to download shitloads of data for various other people, so outsiders can't tell if it's for your own use or for others.
>>
>>51421151
With torrents you can tell which user is downloading/uploading what.

With freenet you can't.
