Anyone else think the mouse control in Ubuntu / linux is utter shit? How can I make it more like windows?
>>
>>51411571
You have been by the phony man again OP.
>>
Increase DPI, decrease pointer speed
>>
>>51411680
Its a cheap generic mouse. No dpi settings. I Should not have to do this physically
>>
>>51411571
It's different, but I wouldn't call it shit.
You have much more control over the mouse movement on Linux, but sadly most of it is hidden under the hood and there were some changes recently that made things even more confusing.
Here's an uptodate intro to pointer acceleration on Linux and how to modify it.
https://wiki.freedesktop.org/xorg/Development/Documentation/PointerAcceleration/#Introduction
>>
>>51411727
I don't want to shift through text files and cfg files for hours for a damn pointer speed / acceleration settings . Fuck sakes, linux is still complete shit for the desktop user huh?
>>
>>51411694
Fuck off back to Windows then. It's better for you :)
>>
>>51411747
Because you're getting this autismo about pointer settings does not mean the entire desktop is "complete shit" for everybody.

I mean, really? This is pretty fucking specialist. I feel sorry for your mother having to clean encrusted drool off your keyboard every day.

The keyboard and mouse are the first layer of interaction with the computer. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to leave that shit out from the GUI
>>
>>51411747
The mouse pointer works just fine for desktop users, it's you that's being anal.

I'd assume some gamers are also very picky about it, but they go out of their way to tweak numerous things to their liking, so it's pretty safe to assume editing a text file isn't unreasonable.
I agree a GUI utility would be nice, and I'm hoping that now that the libinput patches are wide spread something will pop up sooner or later.

Also no need to rant at me, I'm helping you, aren't I?

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "MY MOUSE ID"
MatchIsPointer "yes"
Option "AccelerationProfile" "-1"
Option "AccelerationScheme" "none"
Option "AccelSpeed" "-1"
EndSection

Add that to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-mouse-acceleration.conf

Swap the "MY MOUSE" with your id, you can find it with
xinput list
cmd.
Make note of the numerical ID and use that as the identifier, remember to keep the quotation marks around the number.

Next time, don't be such a cry baby and learn to chew your own food.

if is a microsoft wireless mouse just unplug / plug the usb receiver

It is very much unreasonable.

This is 100% why people don't use Linux. Linux users are autistic spergs, it doesn't matter if the product itself is good.
>>
>>51411923
I'd assume that depends on the setting.
There are a lot of things in modern OS's that are only accessible via config files or runtime variables.
So no, it's not de facto unreasonable.
>>
>>51411993
Human interface settings are very much needed in an easy to use interface.
>>
>>51411947
I think you are the autistic sperg if you are making parallelisms with an average Linux user and a random image board poster.

>>

>very much
You say "very much" too much. Much too much. Stop saying "very much".
>>
>>51412018
There is no easier interface than a flat text file
>>
>>51412018
I agree, but that's not the issue at hand.
Ubuntus settings are pretty archaic, but you can control speed, which is enough for most users.

Op's issue was
>How can I make it more like windows?
What kinda button there should be for this setting?
>>
>>51412070
Please tell me how I can see all available settings in an empty text file. Hell show me which text file I'm supposed to edit intuitively.
You can't. Because that's the power of a decent GUI.
>>
>>51412092
You're a nigger
>>
>>51412092
man $filename or man $process has all the details. In most cases the config files are well docmented and commented and its easy to search for what you want.

I use BSD so maybe I am biased, but you should be able to man your way through anything, or not use a computer at all
>>
>>51412141
What filename or process deals with mouse input?

I don't see how this is hard to understand. It's just bad for the end-user. How the fuck am I supposed to know xinput can change mouses settings or that you can make a config file that does it permanently?
I want to type "mouse" and get all relevant information/settings about a goddamn mouse.
>>
>>51412141
That sounded pretty gay desu senpai
>>
>>51411875
this

y cant loonix into settings?
>>
>>51412092
Don't conflate this issue.
Some settings most definitely should have GUI representation, but it's impossible and not sane to make ALL possible configuration options available via GUI.
You need to remember that Linux distro is an mashup of multiple projects working together, so it's kinda upto the individual projects to handle this.
Windows doesn't expose Firefox settings, now does it?

If you restrict this discussion to HID devices and what settings should be exposed by the major DE projects, it starts to go somewhere.
Perhaps even a bug report can be filed and you get the feeling you have done something instead of complaining.
>>
>>51412167
literally "man mouse"

http://nixdoc.net/man-pages/FreeBSD/man4/mouse.4.html
>>
>>51412089
Uh, disable mouse acceleration tickbox? Not fucking hard. Linux is stupid.
>>
>>51412218
>Perhaps even a bug report
Oh but I tried. Many times. Fucking autists don't understand the concept of user experience or just refer to a different project because "it doesn't belong in this one".

>>51412240
>BSD
How do I know "man" shows a help page?
>>
>>51412257
Technically Windows is guilty of this as well. The settings lie to you.
>>
>>51412261
>How do I know "man" shows a help page?

See >>51412141 and also unix for babbys
>>
>>51412167
>I want to type "mouse" and get all relevant information/settings about a goddamn mouse.
Get to work then, that's a lot of ground to cover.
And I'm being serious, it's FOSS, pay someone to do it or do it yourself.

Though you could also help the existing projects, frame your issue and problems in a sane way and try to make them understand your point of view.

This "I want" and "I need" shit is repulsive on all levels.
>>
>>51411571
Sorry to inform you, but in linux you have to be prepared for at least half the OS to be utter shit, don't you know?
>>
>>51412308
>This "I want" and "I need" shit is repulsive on all levels.
Don't mistake my use of "I" to be literal. My complaints WILL improve user adoption of linux as a desktop OS. This is mostly on DE devs
>>
>>51412218
Not OP, can bug reports be used to suggest enhancements to the project and not just report bugs?
