can I learn how to program in 6 months and be employable? starting from scratch and 6 months later...job?

Javascript + jQuery with some knowledge of the DOM will net you maybe 15-20 an hour. Also your life will be shit.
>>
>>51399431
this.

If you want to be a real software developer it'll take a lot more time unless you study/program 20 hours a day until then.
Web dev is the only thing that can be realistically mastered in that time.
>>
>>51399431
are you leaving out less shitty alternatives or did you start with the least shitty?
>>
>>51399471
>unless you study/program 20 hours a day until then.

you don't think 10 hours a day would cut it?
>>
>>51399473
I'm giving you the only feasible scenario. You have no portfolio, no formal education and no experience.

Look into it if you're serious, it isn't hard at all. Debugging is a bitch at the start because you will be confused and write terrible code but like with anything you will eventually improve. Don't make it your career though, you will actually kill yourself.
>>
>>51399473
Consider the fact that 30 y/o Raj and Peng are competing with you for this as well.

If you cared about coding, you'd be doing it already. But you aren't. So you don't.

Coding is like being a doctor or a lawyer - to get the job without a passion for doing it is a surefire way to hate your life. Sure, you might EVENTUALLY get a lot of money, but how much have you sacrificed to get there?

Find something you love, and it won't even matter how much money you make. That is, until you fuck up your life and decide to get a girlfriend or have kids.

Have a good portfolio.
Look on meetup.com for developer-oriented groups in your area. Attend and network.

Nobody's out of time. If your parents are kicking you out, go get a fucking job. Go to community college. Find something. I went back to college at 26 and have a pretty sweet fucking job now.
>>
>>51399616
community college with the ability to give certs is a good idea.
if you say fuck community college, then literally just fuck around on youtube until you get a general idea.. if you haven't put a loaded gun to your face yet, then go for

How can you live with yourself? You just sit there doing nothing with your life, you can't even support yourself and you're completely okay with this. There are fucking jobs that you can essentially walk in and walk out hired and yet here you are content with being the scum society's trying to scrape off the bottom of its boot
>>
>>51399407
go to a coding academy. it'll cost like $10k, but it's like a bootcamp for coding.

a few coding academies in my city offer guaranteed job placement within 6 months or full refund.

(a lot of autists in /g/ will proclaim "no, that's not fair" because they spent 4-6 years in university and grad school for the same skill a person can learn in 5 months of coding bootcamp. plus, coding bootcamp isn't hypothetical, abstract scenarios and questions like are found in university CS classes. rather, coding bootcamp gets you prepared for real-world coding. i know a few people who went that route, and they're making $60k start.)

It's hard.

Exactly how is "real programming" more difficult to master than web programming?

To know the entire stack, from Linux upwards, takes a fuckton of knowledge. System layer, server layer, database layer, application layer. Each layer requires knowledge of different technologies.

And even just the application itself requires tons of knowledge these days. You've got back-end languages (PHP, Ruby, JavaScript) and frameworks (CodeIgniter, Laravel, Rails, node.js), then you've got front-end shit like compiled CSS languages (LESS or SASS), templating languages (ERB, HAML, Mustache), a billion different package managers (Composer, RubyGems, Bundler, NPM, etc.), testing frameworks (Mocha, MiniTest, etc.), then you might have loads of different packages and bits that you need to know (examples from Rails: Sidekiq from background processing, Nokogiri for XML parsing, Savon for SOAP requests, just loads and loads and loads of different packages), etc, etc, etc.

And I haven't even mentioned the system layer. If you run rails then you need a server (e.g. Apache or nginx) and you need something in between (e.g. Passenger Phusion) that can manage multiple Rails processes. Also I haven't mentioned issues like security, redundancy (server redundancy and data redundancy), load balancing, etc, etc, etc.

Basically, you have no idea what you're talking about.
