I used to work dispatch for Mercedes Benz USA roadside assistance, and that's how we did it. We had software that would basically send a single 150 character message to the pager of a roadside technician. You could also call the phone number associated with the pager and send a phone number, or use the alphanumeric system to type a short message, but that was only as a backup in case our system went down.

Nah, the frame has some heavy use on it because I wear it while working in a warehouse. It gets smashed against metal at least a couple times a night.
Glad I got the insurance, and waited to wear it until I got a screen protector.
It's held up surprisingly well. I thought the wheel was getting loose because it wouldn't turn it on right away, but turns out it was some app eating up all the RAM after a reset.
I just got working again, still have to replace the screen. Currently using it for Rockbox's USB HUD feature which is super useful.
Minolta Maxxum 7000 was on my desk here. The first camera with autofocus and motorised film advance built in. I use it sometimes.

The 2nd largest board in this photo is my oldest chess board. It was made in France some time between 1920 and 1950. The inside is a Backgammon board. My board is a downgrade from previous models of the same design which had holes along the inside for playing the game of Tric-Trac, which is now forgotten. I keep my big boards under my bed, so they are within arm's reach right now.

At the hospital I worked at over the summer the patient transporters had them, the dispatch would sent them a message that would show up on the pager. It was a brief message just saying the patient's name, room number, and destination so they can go pick them up and transport them.

Pic related is a container, it contains some resistors, ceramic capacitors, a bunch of 555 timers in their sockets, and a CD4046, electrolytics, some diodes, etc.
There's also a tiny rod of ferrite in the top-right corner.
It's one of many tiny boxes of electronics waiting to be used, at least the CD4046 and a bunch of those capacitors and resistors are getting used really soon. :^)
