What are /g/'s thoughts on Office 2016? Worth the upgrade from 2013?
Its being offered from HUP for $11 like 2013 was so if there's any noticeable improvements I figure why not.
Got it free from uni. I like it.
this design
>>51300463
It's not worth it. If you already can do everything you need why do you figure that you need to spend $11.
>>51300463
Still using Office 2007, it just werks.
>product for the new year
>title bar already clashes with Win10 not only visually, but in positions of buttons (ergonomically)
but wanting a working design is AUTISM, so who needs that
>>51300463
Shitty software is still shitty software after you add a modern GUI to it. There are better alternatives to every aspect of Office.
Why can't normal people design this shit instead of mentally kindergarten adults?
>hey guyz lets color everything xxddd
>>51300701
Actually, this is not even true.
>>51300767
>hey guyz colors is mean for kidz xD
>>51300463
>subscription based software
no fucking thank you
office is fucking mad expensive. what fucking features do they add every year to justify the price? fuck all they just move the buttons about so you have to spend time learning the interface again.
if you use office you are a kek simple as that.
>>51300463
that little smiley face on the top right is a dropdown menu for emojis btw
>>51301138
It's not.
outlook seen some nice improvements. cant really say much about excel, dont use it that much.
Why would I want this over Libre Office?
>paying for office
>not using all of the software thats completely free and free AND does the job better
>>51300463
i like the designs but the patterns in the background are cancer
>>51301335
You like being locked into Microsoft's system.
>>51301335
Office is to Android like LibreOffice is to Symbian.
Cool but too far behind...
>>51301433
You typed that wrong.
>>51301433
eh, there's really next to nothing most people would miss in libreoffice vs ms office. the real problem is compatibility. i know libre can open docx just fine but every so often things look wonky or the formatting gets lost in translation. can't have that in a corporate environment.
>>51301507
>things look wonky or the formatting gets lost in translation
and just to elaborate this isn't about things looking pretty it's about formatting glitches making stuff unreadable
>>51300463
Is it out of beta? I get it for free.
I got it for £10 via my employer. love it.
>>51300463
Is it Office 365 ProPlus with 2016 apps? That's what my employer is showing for download
>>51302092
Has been for a little bit now.
mfw it looks better on OS X
>>51302230
lel yeah they got some flack for that
I just installed the enterprise edition and activated it with an open source activation server driver
I won't tell you which one because I want to see you keks using that incompatible featureless pile of shite that is libre
>>51300463
Just use LibreOffice and stop being a kek.
Yes goy yesss! Buy the latest Office pack even though it has nothing different!
>>51300654
>make a better design
>submit to msft
>another anon: "this design" +_+
>>51300463
>>51302230
why cant it be square and perfect?
>>51302508
>why cant it be square and perfect?
Because Microsoft decided that instead of using the native window elements, they were going to have their applications draw their own window decorations and borders so they can better fuck them up.
>>51302543
I was talking about literally ever app on the apple OS. It's the theme and the only thing keeping me from buying one.
>>51302508
Because this is how Microsoft operates.
>>51300694
>title bar already clashes with Win10 not only visually, but in positions of buttons (ergonomically)
pretty much every version of Office from 95 onward looked different from the Windows version it came out with and had needlessly different
IIRC, MS does this so they don't have to deal with controls operating different between different Windows versions, since Office draws its own controls.
>>51300767
the colors are striking and fine
the garbage stencils in the top right corner need to go though, looks like something some idiot from a highschool graphic design elective would do
>>51301507
this
LibreOffice is fine if everyone you're working with is using ODT.
otherwise, shit breaks and you end up having to use a tiny subset of features that don't
It looks ridiculous on 7. At least 2013 looked kind of in-place, 2016 just cut and pasted the Windows 10 UI and hoped it would look ok.
I have Office 365 from university but I intentionally downgraded a while ago to Office 2010. There's barely any difference between Office versions except for UI anyways (except for the jump between 2003 and 2007)
>>51302605
true story
i bet they still don't use git
What kind of spergtard actually PAYS for software? The purpose of office software is to be compatible with whatever office software your task requires, so I use whatever the situation calls for.
>>51300463
>2003 masterrace
anyone?
>>51300654
It's decidedly better than Office 2013's design though
Can I get rid of that fucking smiley face, the login, and "tell me what you want to do"? If so fine, if not fuck 'em
>>51302664
the stencils at the top are actually customizable, you have some to choose from. nothing is an option as well if you don't like horrific stencils.
>>51305499
Since it sounds like you have it, could you answer this
>>51305463
>>51302664
>IIRC, MS does this so they don't have to deal with controls operating different between different Windows versions, since Office draws its own controls.
The last four major Windows releases all have wide, rectangular caption buttons (close, min/max). Why would they use small/square controls on the title bar if this mirrors absolutely nothing made after 2007?
The dark theme is actually dark this time. The color themes are nice though.
Other than that it's pretty much the same thing as 2013.
>buy windows
>don't get office free
umm wintards???
>>51305520
see >>51302605
the Office team really doesn't seem to give a shit what the Windows UI team is doing and there's probably nearly no communication between them other than both having some vague attempt at following the Metro (I think Microsoft calls it "Modern" these days, but fuck that) design guidelines
>>51305499
oh, that's nicer
>>51301116
Pay 11 bucks for home use program?
>>51302230
Same for 2013/2015.
What the fuck is going on.
>>51302230
Apple does everything right when it comes to design. Microsoft today, including Google and LinuxGnoo can't come close.
>>51307391
Its microsoft design the software not apple you retard
>>51302605
That thing is in every osx windows.
>>51300463
need standalone Outlook 2016, is this possible to install?
>College IT Department still hasn't allowed us to upgrade to 2016
>literally
>one
>fucking
>button
>to
>upgrade
>everyone
>>51300463
The only thing worth the price is Excel, the rest is utter shit and libre alternatives are way better.
>>51300463
Most office updates are just style updates to make office match your OS.
Using 2013 on W10 right now, I found it more in place on W8.1 but I keep using it since I have a proper crack running.
>>51307644
My uni literally just upgraded to 2013 in November.
All lectors were freaking out because they couldn't handle the new outlook interface.
Can't blame them really, W7 + office 2011 is probably the golden standard for office set-ups.
>>51309104
>office 2011
2010*
Happy sticking with 2013 desu.
>>51305582
It literally takes ten seconds to type office 2016 and get the torrent started.
>>51300463
did they really integrate Clippy into menubar
>>51300463
>HUP
Bro,
Thanks. I just got mine.
Much Mahalo.
