Eh, I'll just get the game in a couple of months once they've patched it and worked out some of the bugs that are present in the release version. I like Bethesda's games, they usually entertain me for 200+ hours per game so that's some pretty good entertainment value in my opinion. Graphics are a secondary concern for me when it comes to games.. hell I spend most of my time playing text-based games like Dwarf Fortress and nethack or old PS1/SNES games on an emulator as opposed to newer, prettier games anyways..

On my rig, i5 3570k at 4.4 with 16g of ram and a single 290x runs 70fps on 1080p ultra. Only thing I switched out was TAA for FXAA. With TAA vs FXAA I was getting less than half that, and there really is no discernible difference. I'm sure the conversation goes like this.

I have a 290 OCd and a 4790K OCd. Everything set to Ultra except anti aliasing and god rays (High). I get solid 40fps or higher it usually stays around 60-75, but I have my frame rate limited to my monitors refresh rate so...
A trick that I do is using CCC to override the anti aliasing with 4XEQ Adaptive MSAA also override Tessellation to 32X or 64X if it can be done else 16X will suffice.

i was getting dips to 40 and some times mid 30's on ultra @ 1080p and down grading to HIGH didn't seem to do anything.
I just tried 1440p with via VSR and a few other tweaks and now i get a constant 60 fps with occasional dips into the 40's.

i had more or less the same thing happen with mad max. i played it for 8 hours straight on high getting a really smooth fps, but when i came back the next day it was all choppy and shitty. lowering the settings didnt help at all, and it would occasionally lock up.

The game is murdering cpus and nobody knows why. I've monitored thread usage on my 9590 and there is no sudden spike when the fps drops (even with gpu usage below 100%) - my suspicion is the engine is just so hacked together its stalling a lot. One anon claimed the game hits the cache hard which is partly why the enthusiast i7's take the lead (they have more cache than the mainstream counterparts) and cache is a weakness of FX chips.

After some testing i've come to the conclusion its primarily the a.i (or at least, the bodies of npcs) thats crippling cpu performance.
After killing a bunch of super mutants near some radar dishes if I look out across the map (thus hammering draw distance) framerate remains solid. The second I look at the few corpses spread around fps plummets. Whatever bethesda is doing with npcs is murdering cpus.
