I used that. That is nowhere near Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Cubase or Digital Performer.

I've tried over and over to use LMMS over the past few years. It's ass.

I even considered submitting new artwork for the splash screen 'cause the old shit was terrible. I mean... look at this shit.

It tries sooooo hard to be FL Studio, but it's like what happens when potato programmers tried to make FL Studio.

Isn't Renoise just a glorified tracker?

'cause I never liked trackers. I tried to like them, but no.

it handles effects, modulation, samples, etc...

it's more than just a tracker.

Not true, there have been plenty of projects similar to this that were just a one-man-show.
>>
>>51283204
I gave up with it after getting a pretty negative retort when bringing up some of the serious workflow problems it has. Seems like all the devs have some kind of tunnel vision with it where some bizarre workflow is fine for them. It's frustrating though, it could easily become really good if it just had a good push in the right direction instead of the seemingly minor features that get added to it.

It was quite disappointing to see the bitchfest that ensured on the mailing list when it was suggested that a paid developer could be hired to do some much needed work on some of the more core features, like actually making some of the realtime aspects more solid. As far as I know everyone moaned and nothing got done.

Seems it is suffering from having a lead dev who apparently has a vision and is sticking to it no matter what anyone else says and when he comes across critique or suggestions he reacts like a spoilt shit, like every open source developer seems to (they're a certain breed, that's for sure).
>>

essentially yes but that's like saying ableton is a glorified looper.

There are competent project leaders like the people behind Python, Molenaar and Linus though.
>>
>>51286898

>serious workflow problems it has

this was my single biggest gripe with it (aside from the aforementioned logo). The workflow is utterly retarded. Things were not placed intuitively so figuring out something as simple as adding a new instrument track had me stumped.

In contrast, the day I brought Cubase VST 3.7 home and installed it I had a track going within a couple of minutes. FL Studio was braindead simple to figure out. Even Orion was pretty easy.

The only DAW that ever had me stumped as bad as LMMS was Logic Audio 4-5.5.

A daw is a DAW is a Daw is a dAW, whether it's read vertically or horizontally it's still just a tool for a person using it. Lamelton might be a shiny #2 pencil and Based cubed might be a #2 mechanical pencil, in the end they do the same job but differently.

Personally I hate all the double clicks and single clicks that you hear from Frooty Doops, Alberton Live, and all those mainstream DAWs when you can do the same tasks easily via keyboard.

>>51286937
>ableton is a glorified looper.

This, though I gotta admit they have the hardware market down esp. with the Push 2, thing is too damn sexy for it's own good.

It's been said a million times over, it's all about the workflow - how it works for you, do you enjoy it, and does it expand your creativity.

but uh lmms needs a major breakthrough if all it has going for it is being open source.

Pic unrelated but it was one of my favorite tools to jam with.

Senpai, I've been recording audio directly into my DAW since I bought Cakewalk Pro Audio 5 back in '97.

If, in 2015, your "DAW" application cannot record audio directly into it, your application is lower than shit-tier.

IIRC FL Studio added audio recording back in version 5 (10 years ago).
>>
>>51290636

I'd still buy an MU50 today.

Ever get down into the drum programs and just edit the individual sounds? I found out you could apply a filter to individual sounds in a drum kit and created some great kits doing that.

The one tracker I tried using the longest was Buzz. I really wanted to get used to it 'cause the routing in that thing had so much potential. I just can't get used to the whole vertical paradigm.

Buzz isn't the only tracker I've used, but it's the one I used for the longest. I've been trying them since Win 3.11.
>>
>>51283204

I'd only use a pure CLI DAW for linux if I was going to use a DAW in linux.
This will never be so I will stick with using non-free software so I can make non-free music.
