If you work in a technical/computer related field, have you ever been whined at by people with "real jobs" telling you about their "real jobs" and how your profession isnt a "real job"?

Please tell me about it.
>>
>>51279574
I bet you don't know your way around a ECU like I do my friend
>>
>>51279574
No, never. Everyone treats me like I'm some sort of powerful shaman or something who uses magic to work with computers, but that's mainly because I'm surrounded by computer-illiterate people.
>>
As a person working outside computer related fields we used to complain about our IT a lot because they're lazy fucks.

I'm glad we switched from XP to centos, at least the computers shit the bed every two weeks
>>
>>51279574
Nope, because before I started off, I worked at a grocery store, did construction, landscaping, cleaning carpets, etc, etc. People who know me don't bother

I understand, many people you deal with will treat you this way like you are a genius, but I am talking about the "working class" middle aged fat men with blurry washed out tattoos who generally havent even graduated something likewise highschool and were digging in dirt since age 15.
>>
>>51279574
Tell them to fuck off and come back in 20 years when 60% of their jobs have been replaced by robots.
>>
>>51279574
I have had people try and say this to me but I just scoff at them.
>>
>>51279607
this, more or less

people generally are pretty positive towards computers guys when it's a more personal environment (for example, you're the one guy who can into computer on a site)

also my current job involves drawing the machines they assemble/use, which most of them think is pretty amazing

don't get me wrong, i've had laughs from people seeing me try to help them build what i drew (i'm weak and pale by comparison), but i haven't heard anyone call my job "not real"

Why do real jobbies get so mad at non-real jobbies anyway?
>>
>>51280127

>>
>>51279574
no because this will happen
>wah, get real job nerd
>sorry, what do you do?
>why do you ask, anon?
>oh, well I specialize in automating routine tasks, and I'm looking for a side project at the moment
>>
But they're right
90% of you guys would never even handle a whole day of real work. I know it because I do it
>>
>>51279574

One of the guys I used to work with had a "real job" as an auto mechanic and custom body painter.

He quit, took some classes, got his CCNA, CISSP, and one other cert I can't remember at this moment, then got to work.

"real work" was for the birds.
>>
>>51280202

I scoff in your general direction.

I've worked on auto assembly lines, warehouses, and shit like that in the past. Just 'cause you use your muscles doesn't make you special. Doesn't make that type of work any more "real" than what I currently do.
>>
>>51279574
CNC machinist here, get a real job faggot
>>
>>51280202
I've done those sort of shit jobs before. Only reason why IT guys might not handle it is because there is no mental challenge whatsover, it's just mindless labor over and over. You actually have to be pretty dumb to stay sane and keep doing that shit for several years.
>>
>>51279574
I do unskilled labour in the summers, and that's generally the feel I get from my coworkers. Well, at least once I finish my degree and get a 'not real' job, they won't be able to tell me I never worked a real job in my life.
>>
>>51280188
nice
>>
>>51279994
Are you a mechanical engineer or something?
>>
>>51281006
>there is no mental challenge whatsover, it's just mindless labor over and over.

>muh printer doesn't work
>help I deleted the internet!
>I forgot my password

I'm generalising, but you more or less described every job ever barring the top-tier stuff.
>>
>>51281102
yeah, sort of
>>
As someone who has "real job", nobody does that shit. We all know that the tech side of things is incredibly important to my job of painting, shoveling and lifting shit.

I could not go without my prints, my phone and laptop work software not working or my proper markings from the 811 people.
>>
>>51281154
mhm, the final result depends on both parties doing their job

I've done both, I miss the 'real job" because I was free to roam around outside, was sort of self managed, and it mixed things up - plus I got exercise which made me feel good. Now where I sit at a desk all day I worry that my spine is disintegrating and listening to someone say 'no, they don't remember their email password is it always just automatically signed inf or them' really stresses me out.
On the flip side, the 'real job' was hurtful on my back, and my current job pays more, has benefits, and I get to sit on 4chan for long periods of time.

Right
>>
>>51280202
same can be said for construction workers
>>
>>51281224
That's the thing. Getting home after work and not having to think about how I was going to get my exercise for the day was a good feeling.
>>
>>51281314
Yeah, it's a good feeling. I got pretty tan (for a ghost), an infinite amount of lemonade, buffalo burgers on the cheap, loads of interesting tourists to talk to, an actual feeling of belonging - felt good.
Course I always have to remind myself of rose tinted glasses because it was also often hot as hell, dumb ass tourists everywhere, indians, being so bored that I'd sweep the same spot for hours on end, and the general your bosses being cunts because they actually had to leave their chair that day.
>>
>>51279574

I'm the Vice President of a software company and my wife's friend's Blue collar husbands give me grief about that shit until they realize that my hands are more calloused than theirs because of my hobbies.
>>

Maybe because you have a meaningless title.

You're just a money grabbing kike.

How do you propose to know anything about him? Maybe he worked really hard for a company and earned his position. Maybe he feeds the homeless in his spare time. Just because he has a title doesn't tell us anything about him.

Having money is like having a pile of bricks. It's amoral. Maybe you take a brick and throw it though a window, or maybe you build a homeless shelter with it. You can't objectively say that someone is evil because they have more bricks than you. I've met a lot of rich assholes, and a lot of poor assholes. I've also met a lot of rich people who would give you the shirt off their back, same with poor people.
>>
It certainly isn't a real, hard job
Real work involves working with physical objects such as dirt, rocks, cement, bricks, etc, for that is the foundation of the real world.

Some hunchback pale faggot who jacks off to tranny anime while cleaning malware on peoples computers or programming a fart app isn't contributing to civilization in a meaningful way.

Real work is done by real men, and you have to get physical in order to do it. The world doesn't run on Google searches and desktop ricing you pathetic effeminate NEETs
>>
>>51279574
>If you work in a technical/computer related field, have you ever been whined at by people with "real jobs" telling you about their "real jobs" and how your profession isnt a "real job"?
No. Almost everyone with a 'real job' would kill to switch places.
>>

These. Maybe they are thinking it in their head, but I've never heard anyone say it.
>>
>>51280202
i just came home from 13 hours of having to be 3 different places at the same time.

mucking out some straw bedding,

helping the contractors who are expanding the farm,

and helping move some christmas trees

given they are mostly done in tractor, but if i havn't had 11 hours of sleep yesterday i don't think i could have made it.

tomorrow is at least 11 hours of claw trimming waiting for me

dairy farming is such a joy.

i could never imagine spending my whole day at a desk
>>
I have what some would consider a "real job", assuming you mean a job that is demanding labor and stress. I'm the chef of a restaurant in a casino, but I don't look down on people who have more desk like jobs nor do my peers.

Perhaps I'm speaking out of bias though, because I work in a much finer place than most people?

People who complain about the real job thing are upset because what they went for didn't work out. I made the decision that me pursuing a passion was better than selling out for money. People who do the real job complaint sold out for money, but didn't end up getting the money they wanted.
>>
>>51282325
Ten to one they'll be dying to go back to the 'real job' after trying it out. The low tier shit is retarded and the medium tier shit requires reading and the high tier shit requires even more reading and absurd amount of research and actually using their brain. Throw four inch tome in front of most of them and half are ready to quit on the spot and that's minimum for basic shit.

A few could likely make the switch but for most, it's just not something they want to deal with anyway. A lot of them know what they've been shown, some of them have some mechanical aptitude to go with it. Otherwise just want to tune out. Working with tech requires not tuning out and you constantly have to keep up to date with new software, protocols and information so you're at least keeping an eye on whatever e-rag suits your position, maybe a few even. Possibly a new book here and there.
>>
Anybody who has a "real job" does not have a career.
>>
>>51279574
No, I haven't. Nor do I know anyone who has.
>>
No, but he approves of me doing the daily mating press on his daughter.
We get along well, mostly because his tricks on getting laid worked out pretty great in the end.
>>
I work at a law firm as sort of a catch-all technical guy (official title is "Director of I.T.")

We were at a trial a few weeks back when a legal assistant plugged in her printer and Google'd the drivers. She then spent the next few days telling everyone she is the new I.T. department, wasn't sure what it was I was paid to do, and asked the CEO to let me go so she could have my job.
>>
>>51279574
You obviously aren't good at computers, and that's why your job isn't considered a real one.
>>
Yes

I program important web apps that are literally changing the way the world works and getting people away from deprecated, insecure local software and all these fucking C++ and C fags keep telling me to "get a real job" and "keep trying to get into management, kiddo"

Today a FOSSfag came in for consulting and personally told me that the world would be better off if me and all my coworkers built bridges instead of "inferior freedom denying server-side software" and that I should get a "real job" contributing to his shitty fucking kernel, probably because his shitty FOSStard browser can't run a simple javascript click event without shitting the bed.

Fucking thinkpad-humping idiots.

I lived with my parents for the first 8 months to pay off the loan and save up cash for an apartment. I know bestbuy isn't a "real job" but it had the pay of a shitty construction job I bet. When I left I was making $16/hour

im a CNC operator, best of both worlds I think. I use high tech machinery and program for it - but I also have to do physical work to get the workpieces set and so on.
