well, that sucks. Prices differ, so i thought i'd mention it. You could also consider used cards. For 150€bucks you can easily get a used tahiti card for example (a HD7950/7970/R9 280/R9 280X) which is still stronger than a GTX 960...

It depends on which athlon you get. There is no Athlon X4 955, you mean a phenom II X4 955. And yes, that ancient thing is still stronger than an FX4300. If you want something new, get an athlon II X4 960K on a decent FM2+ board, it uses the newer steamroller arch instead of the piledriver arch used for the FX4300. Yes, its stronger than the FX. And yes, the Phenom II X4 is stronger than both of them.
If you want something new your best option would be to invest a bit more and get the FX6300...

3 instead of 2 modules, yes. Its still 6 "real" cores, AMDs CMT isnt really comparable to SMT.

Some do, some don't. The Frostbyte 3 (BF4, Dragon Age Inquisition, pretty much all the newer EA stuff), most cryengine games and The Witcher 3 for example will happily scale to 8+ threads. And then there's stuff like kerbal space program and other indie shit that will only use a single thread.
yes, it's better than the 4300. CPU heavy games will most likely scale to 6 threads. And it's also a better alrounder than an i3. 2 cores just aren't a good option in this time anymore, SMT or not.
Also why would the FX6300 cost 150 bucks? Here in germany you can get it for 90...

While not on this chart the best AMD cpu to buy is the 8320e. Its around i3 money and is generally faster in current games and due to the low voltage is a generally tip-top overclocker.
By that I mean hitting 4.7ghz on 1.45v or less isn't unheard of (still need a decent mobo to handle that, but thats a massive step down from the 1.5v stock a 9590 wants).
I used a OC'd FX-4100 until a few months ago.
It wasn't an issue until GTA V where two 660's weren't enough for good FPS at any settings really, so I changed to two 290x 8GB, then the CPU started bottlenecking the cards.
Went from a 4100 to a 8370 (Both at 4.6ghz) and FPS tripled on the new cards. (Had to fucking change PSU too though...)

That is pretty damn good anon, most chips want 1.4something for 4.6ghz. My 8320e at 4.7ghz wants 1.416v under torture loads.
That said I am running a housefire risk by pushing this through a m5a99x evo R2.0 which is only rated for 140w but those asus mobos can take one hell of a beating as long as you cool them.

OK, but a HX450W would be better from the technical standpoint.
If you search for used cards that haven't been used for mining you might want to look into some forums like overclockers.net or whatever alternative to that you have in your country.
And as i said, a R9 270 is still a bit stronger than the 950 for about the same price. You could also wait for the R9 380X to drop, should happen in some weeks and it might push the price of the considerably stronger R9 380/GTX 960 to about 180€.

Look for used Phenom II BXX like Phenom II B65. They can be found for cheaper and are exactly the same as normal Phenoms. For example mine B65 is like 945 C3.

Not possible, I'm using a 2007 HP OEM board which doesn't allow OC or even AHCI mode. I have a SATA3 card but the old PCI slot bottlenecks it, still enough to load BF4 maps faster than the Russians.
