It's not that I exclusively prefer (specifically) old aesthetics; I do really like classic and functional environments that are traditional and familiar though. recently, I have coupled my love of bitmaps/aliasing/tiles to my love of problem solving and deduction in order to do things that are unlikely or don't seem possible at first. I actually have more side projects right now than I can deal with. I'm desperately looking forward to Christmas time as I'll have some actual down time for once.
It's not so much the result that is contained within the process. But I think it's apparent that throughout my years of customization I haven't just been stuck on re-creating a ``retro" look. That is just my current style that will most likely change in the future (but not in the immediate future, as my current workspace is super functional).

Once you get things working you get a huge rush. It's like the greatest feeling ever. Once you get good enough to maintain your install it feels almost magical how intimate your control over your computer is. Before you know it you have a home server, VPS running a VPN, and all sorts of other cool stuff. Don't give up anon. You're already on the path to success.
