What streaming device should I buy to make my TV smart?

Requirements: ESPN and HBO. It would be nice to stream Charter or Directv service because I have logins to both, but I don't think that's possible anywhere yet.
>>
Just buy an hdmi cable and save yourself some money in subscription.
>>
>>51228874
I already have all the logins to every service (thx mom n dad). I'm concerned with device price and stream quality. I don't know what else would matter.
>>
Looks like I'm getting a Chromecast then since I'm cheap
>>
Something with a intel CPU

I scooby dooby do. I recommend the old Apple TV. It's like $70. It doesn't do anything except television, no apps bullshit, no internet browsing, no social shit, just TV, movies, and music.

I just bought the Roku 4, an upgrade from my roku 2. Much faster loading, no buffering. There's not too much of an advantage over the 3 though. Ther is voice search on the 4, but it's kinda gimmicky. Nothing like Google voice on a smartphone.

I have plex media server on my gayming desktop. So, I added the rarflix channel as its free.

Oh ya, roku has porn channels too.

Pic unrelated but that's what happens when my gf wants me to hold her fucking purse.
>>
Same guy as abive, but the roku stick works for most people too, and it's less than 50
>>
Have a nexus player and roku 3. You can't use KODi on the roku.

When did "doesn't do anything" become a selling point?
>>

DON'T buy any proprietary OS Bill shit.
you want a real smart tv to function like a PC, use Internet and install apps.
So, get banana pi board and run android on it. Or can spend a little more to built a custom micro PC.
Fire tv is trash.

When big brother started taking over every other media. Want music? Just log in with your Google Account. Want videos? Just log in with your Google Account.
You want no account? That's fine. Just keep in mind it's the only option to get basic account settings.
I literally want to stream from pc to tv with some kind of local network app from my phone. Not stream from Google-site over Google-dongle with Google-app.
>>
Nexus player by far. It's basically just a box with android on it, this allows you to use Kodi super easily. You can do gaymen on it too, with plenty of emulators.

Hell, I'm pretty sure you can run CyanogenMod on it if you so please.

>Buy Nexus Player
>Have some games on my account that I know are compatible
>Search for them on the Play Store
>No Results
>Google it
>It turns out, even if an app is compatible with the Nexus Player, that doesn't mean it appears on the store
>Have to go back to my desktop and use the browser version to install all my apps
>Even then barely any of them are compatible despite working perfectly with a controller
Why is Google such shit at fucking everything
>>
Buy a mac mini or a intel itx box, all these stream devices are crap. HTPC is where it is at, runs everything and more.

You cowards don't even use placebo video scaling.
>>
The new apple tv is the thinkpad of streaming devices. Its official /g/.

>>

I've had a Chromecast for 2 years now and it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made, given it was $35. I use it daily and the amount of app support now is great.

If you own an Android phone you should have one because it will let you do other stuff like screen mirroring. You can use the Chromecast with iOS Netflix, Hulu, etc but I don't think you can do screen mirroring.
>>
Chromecast is basically perfect other than it can't decode DTS audio.
>>
>>51230431
I'm an android faget, droid turbo

>>51230581
So, performance is okay? E.g. HBO videos aren't choppy? I'll go get one from Walmart today then, thanks. The internet says Chromecast can't play 60fps Youtube videos, but for $35 I don't really care, I can just replace this with a new model in a couple years.

For expecting a product to work?
>>
>>51230702
Honestly the only application I've had with buffering comes from VUDU. HBOGO had some issues at launch in 2013 but it's basically been perfect on Chromecast for the past year.

The TV I use Chromecast on is pretty far from my WiFi router and occasionally a VUDU movie will start pausing to buffer. I'm not sure if it's the Chromecast's fault or if it is VUDU's fault, but I suspect it is the Chromecast as VUDU works perfectly for me on PS4.
