When is the Fury X expected to drop in price? I've been having a TON of microstutter issues with my Radeon HD 6950's recently even when not crossfired (FPS games in particular are a real pain in my ass but it's noticeable even with shit like Batman) and I've been putting off upgrading for some time to save money.
>>
It probably won't until the next round of cards come out. Nvidia has no reason to release anything that forces the price down given the 980ti did that.
>>
>>51227020
>It probably won't until the next round of cards come out.
When is that expected to happen, if I can ask?

See pic.

Best guess is Q2 next year at earliest.
>>
>>51227163
So about six months? Shiiiieeeeeet.
>>
>>51227211

As a rule prices only drop when there are replacements or new cards from their competitor - neither of which are going to happen at this point. 28nm is done.
>>
The price isn't going to drop any time soon. It's not a card AMD has enough of to drop the price. They need as many stupid people as possible to buy the card.
>>
>>51227234
It is a good card.
>>
>>51227234

>titan x
>>
>>51226517
>microstutter
back in my day it used to be called dropped/late/early frames
>>
>>51227233
>28nm is done.
What do you mean?
>>
>>51227264
No more cards coming on 28nm. Next gen will be 16/14nm.

At least, that was the story last I checked.
>>
>>51227264

Its been bled dry of performace - the titan x/980ti/fury x have pushed die sizes to the limit - you can't make a chip much desner on this node and expect it to not burst into flames. These are cards with a TDP of 250w-300w and thats no joke to cool.
>>
>>51227293
>>51227310
So should I just wait for the next chip? But don't first gen anythings always have a ton of growing pains, wouldn't it be better to just get the final issue with something like the Fury X? What do you guys think?
>>
>>51227358
>So should I just wait for the next chip?
Depends. There is always (ALWAYS) something better coming out next year. If you have good hardware now, you can wait. If you need to buy, do not wait.
>>
>>51227369
Since I use my computer primarily for gaming and PC optimization has become as sloppy as a cheap whore thanks to the new consoles, what do you suggest? Will 16nm be a gamechanger?
>>
>>51227410
>Will 16nm be a gamechanger?
I expect at least a 50% increase in performance/price.

If you are contemplating a current ~$650 card, you can expect to max out ~99% of modern games at 1440p. Is that worth the very high price to you?
>>
>>51227433
>I expect at least a 50% increase in performance/price.
Then I'll wait for it.
>If you are contemplating a current ~$650 card, you can expect to max out ~99% of modern games at 1440p. Is that worth the very high price to you?
Ehh... I don't know. I just need a solid 60 fps and I'm not getting that with my current cards, and worse than that is the fucking microstuttering which is really becoming a problem.
>>
>>51227470

Overclock the memory some more - might help deal with the microstutter.
>>
>>51227482
Overclocking my card (even though the 6950 is supposedly designed for that) makes my game crash after a couple of minutes.

I assume you are upping the power target and possibly voltage - you do need to let your card draw more juice.

Pic isn't a 6950 but it is a random example of what I mean (for the love of god don't think +300mv is sensible).
>>
I remember something about being able to unlock 6950s so they'd perform like a 6970.
Probably risky, but you could try looking it up.

>>
>>51227520
>+300mv
ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>
>>51227550

A lot of old chips were all the same silicon with different BIOSs disabling the extra cores. These days outside of early demand generally the extra cores and whatnot are lasered off to prevent this unlocking.

>>51227563

Crank the power limit on the right as high as you can. Scrolling down there should be an option for memory clocks - crank that up in 25mhz steps and run a benchmark (say unigien valley) until it crashes or you see artifacts.

If you can't get much out of using CCC go download msi afterburner and use that as it allows for more voltage (CCC doesn't deal in voltage). Just creep up voltage by +25mv at a time until the crashes stop.

>>51227582

I've got the cooling to handle it but the card is not built to draw that much juice. I run it stable at a "mere" +170mv.
>>
>Fury

Shit card, unless you are ga(y)ming on 4k.

Wrong strategy by AMD again.
They should have focused on bringing out decent midrange cards.
>>
>>51227612

You mean like how the 380 curbstomps the 960?
>>
>>51227606
Thanks anon. I'll do that and report back. Downloading unigien valley now.
>>
>>51227606
>>51227652
Actually on closer inspection it's the damndest fucking thing. I'm not even sure it's microstuttering. It's more like some objects on screen shiver and shake when I move the camera or approach them. I was just playing Arkham while ungine finished downloading so I could see if it crashed and that's what I'm seeing.
>>
>>51227625
>380

Topkek

This fucking thing draws more power than a GTX980.

You can easily overclock a 960 onto 380 level and still it needs less energy.
>>
>>51227768
>>51227606
Yup that is definitely what I'm fucking seeing. I only perceived it as microstuttering because I was inside the doctor's house in New Vegas but it is this fucking object shake.
>>
>>51227799
>>51227768
Overclocking did nothing. Damndest fucking thing. If I could get some video of this could one of you tell me what I'm seeing?

I have and it does.

Right now it reads 47c.
>How many times do you clean your card a year?
Not often but I've been having this problem for a while, including after some guy came over and did my computer top to bottom so I don't think it's that.

Took video of it with fraps. Anywhere I can upload it? Youtube is limited to 30fps although amazingle enough you can see some of it even then if you really look. The object jerking I mean. Just reviewed the video.

fug
>>
>>51228133
Just use OBS to record that, if you use AMD VCE encoder it just hardware accelerate the recording and you get a nice low size video file.
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-branch-with-amd-vce-support.13996/
Use 3500kbps for streaming vids or 10000kbps for high quality recording.
>>
>>51228144

The 6950 isn't GCN though is it?
>>
>>51228157
That is correct... fug
Still with a core i5/7 it would record better with OBS for low size files than fraps.
I remember this was recorded still without the amd encoding.

>>
Did you tried Furmark for stress test already?
>>
>>51228144
It's actually up to over 4000 minutes. This shit is stupid.
>>51228178
So...What do you suggest I do?
>>
>>51228211
Use OBS to record 1 minute or so, use x264 instead of AMD encoder, it should work fine.
>>
How much faster is the 380X gonna be comapared to the 280X and the 380?

Is the performance scaling linear regarding to the amount of shader?

So that would mean it is gonna be around 14% faster than a 380, if both cards are clocked the same.

What about power draw? Does more steam processors mean higher power draw?
>>
>>51228239
>Use OBS to record 1 minute or so, use x264 instead of AMD encoder, it should work fine.
I just downloaded OBS, where's that option in the settings?

Man fuck hold on, this shit is nowhere near as simple as fraps.

Okay, so I've gone to the hotkey settings and made 'start recording' hotkeyed to f9, and 'stop recording' to f10. So now I just start the game, press f9 and press f10 when I'm done?

>>
>>51228946
That's not what's happening. There's a small moment in the video that's not a complete shitshow, from 0:08 to 0:14, where you can sort of see what I'm talking about. That shit is not 60 fps yet radeonpro says it is. You could see the jerkiness if it was better quality, goddamnit.
>>51228938
Alright, I'll give it a shot.
>>
>>51228980

Does this happen only in new vegas?
>>
>>51229024
No, it happens on all games. It's just more noticeable on FPS games.

Anyway with a bitrate of 20000 it's ten times as large so it's going to take an hour to upload. Anything I can use to view .flv to view files so I can make sure this isn't more grainy shit before wasting an hour?
>>
>>51227233
Video card prices rarely drop instead they release a new card at whatever price range they want. Like the 980ti cutting the legs out of Fury X instead seeing a Titan price slash.

They are going to release cards between now and the new platform. Likely a 380x and a 960ti or something along with new dual gpu flagships.
>>
>>51229070
Guys ftlviewer just shows me a black screen. I can hear the music but nothing else.
>>
>>51229173
I just used FLViewer and confirmed that the first video works unlike the ones I just took with 20000 bitrate. Canceled the upload. Now what?
>>
>>51228296
Rumored launch price is $250 so between the 390 and 380 obviously. About 60-65 fps on Crysis 3 very high settings. Putting it at Basically equal to or lower than a 290 I'd guess. If it gets between 65 and 70 fps I'd be really surprised.
>>
So does anyone even have a faint idea of what it could be? Did I have it right the first time and it's microstuttering?
>>
>>51229367

Microstuttering is generally frametime spikes - it should cause a jittery gameplay experience but things should stil lrender normally.
>>
>>51228869
DO I LOOK LIKE I KNOW WHAT A JAY PEG IS?
>>
>>51229388
Jittery how? Things ARE rendering normally I think, it's just this weird goddamn thing where objects sort of shake very quickly from 'where they were' to 'where they are' when I move or pan the camera.
>>
The more important question is when does the new nvidia cards come out?

I've seen prices drop so hard the last week.
>>
>>51229417

Jittery as if for a fraction of a second the entire game pauses. It will be very stop-start-stop-start.

I've actually searched the problem every way I could 'object shaking', 'object shivering'. I never find my problem described. The closest I ever came was a Battlefield (I think) video that showed my exact fucking problem but no one posted the fix. My biggest fear is that I'll still have the problem once I upgrade my cards. I really don't know what I'd do then.
>>
>>51229479
It's not the entire game! It's just objects. My character model always looks fine.
>>
>>51229447
I'd never buy NVIDIA. It's bad enough I have an Intel CPU.
>>
Question? thinking about upgrading, should i get the fx9590 or the new zen cpus and when r they coming out?
>>
>>51230738

You should NEVER buy a 9590. If you actually want a fx chip get an 8320e and clock it up to 9590 levels.

Lesson for nubs: don't dump a 9590 into any old AM3+ motherboard and expect it to work - it will (at stock) kill most mobos.

Zen is going to come out around the same time Arctic Islands (AMD's next line of GPUs) comes out. GlobalFoundries just finished their first successful production for AMD on the 14nm LPP process. From here it still sounds like Q2 2016 at the earliest.

>Desktop users will be happy to know that the first Zen processor out the door will be AMD’s high-end desktop CPU (AMD was very deliberate in this, it’s not an APU). AMD will be aiming high and then cascading Zen down into APUs and lower-end products.
I'm a moron then. I swear they were going to bring out mobile Zen before anything and drop desktop Zen on the latter part of the year, maybe even the next one.
>>
>>51232971
AMD has been neglecting the enthusiast desktop and server markets, so they're prioritizing them this time around. From what we know, it's going to be an FM3 socket and use DDR4. I'm planning on a complete rebuild around Zen and Arctic Islands next year.
>>
>>51233110

If I wasn't aiming for a 4k build i'd be all over zen. As it stands my overclocked 8320e will do me fine for a while. Arctic islands gets me hard though.
