tbh i think at this point i would go for haswell. it wont save you much money, but compared to the extra features youll get off of that Z170 and the performance "increase" id rather save some money.

But if I said i had some ----->FREE<--- money and I wanted to invest in next-gen, Would you give me your blessing?

Invest to 980ti instead

I only play with an 1080 resolution, feels a bit overkill to go 980Ti.
I would go for something like this too. But I still wanna wait a little bit. Is it worth getting?

Asus makes shit GPUs today. Get the 2400mhz cl12 kit. Ditch shitty Samsung and get Intel. Power supply may be iffy also. No reason not to get skylake if you are doing a new build. No reason to get i7 if all you do is gaym, i5 would be sufficient. Get an i7 if it makes you happy tho.
I5-6600K plus 970 is the sweet spot for 1080p 60hz gaming. If you want higher frame rates go for a 980, and if you game at 1440p then the 980ti becomes relevant. I7 is wasted on gaming.
