No, the fastest AMD APU on the market is currently in the PS4 (in terms of GPU power). Their other desktop and laptop APUs typically outperform Intel system in graphics performance but get crapped on in CPU performance.
The Iris Pro 5200 has to run at a lower resolution and drastically lower quality setting than even the PS4 version.
I don't think I'll ever install a gpu in my computer, they are a waste of power and they are loud.
It's not even that I don't have power to spare, it just bothers me that something in my house is consuming lots of power and is inefficient.

This is just natural progression of technology, sure "we've" had the tech to do this for years... we've also had the tech for quantum computing and orders of magnitude more flops in workstations/experimental tech than traditional home pcs.. the fact is this is a cheap(in both power and upfront cost) option for the laptop market.
