depends what you need
kolourpaint4 is best as a paint.exe replacement

seems decent, never used it but pics make it seem more blated than a basic paint.exe replacement, does it load in a decent time? kolourpaint loads instantly for me, which is basically what I look for in a paint replacement.

I'll try it out and see how it is,.

Gimp is like 6/10. It's a good effort at bringing Photoshop to the freedom loving masses, but the GUI is atrocious and it lacks intuitive features.

>>47652274
Krita is 7/10 because it looks nice and is easier to use than Gimp. But it's more for digital painting rather than editing photos. I know they plan on adding more features, but I don't think it's meant to be a Photoshop replacement.

>>47652306
I use paint.net as a paint replacement. It's simple and does everything I need it to do.
>>

>does it load in a decent time?
SSD RAID1 here, GIMP still takes like 1-2 seconds to load but Krita is pretty much instant, it can take like 1 second on a cold boot.

Also, if you're using KDE globally, then Krita loads much faster - same for all other KDE programs. The idea is that they share all of their common libraries so that you only need one copy in memory. Good for memory usage too.

>but pics make it seem more blated than a basic paint.exe replacement
Yes, it does quite a lot - but it also has a saner interface than GIMP, and perhaps more importantly, saner color processing.

In particular, as a color scientist I was extremely impressed by Krita's handling of color and color management. They really know what they're doing.

It's 4/10 software. Just wait until you deal with enterprise software sold to the CIO for two handies and a job interview. Try Lotus Notes. Try Quality Center.

No, GIMP is free software that works reasonably well but has some bad UI decisions.

Gtk+, not even once.

It's hilarious just how much better Qt software is than Gtk software in general.
>>
>>47652431
yeah, you know GTK is fucked up when the software from which GTK was invented can't into GTK

Matlab
GIMP
Emacs
adobe reader
hard drives
Eclipse
whatsapp
>>
>>47652172
I will grant it's powerful software for photo editing but it has a godawful UI.
>>
>>47652683
There exist free programs that aren't shit, eg. Krita.

no one wants to fucking customize their own UI
its the laziest thing on the entire planet and only retarded FOSS Linux programmers think that it's an okay to put the burden of making your GUI not look like shit to the person using the program

presentation matters
>>
>>47652890
God damn the UI is so awful the devs had to make it so you can customize it. Even if you make it look like photoshop that doesn't make it function like photoshop you still end up having to deal with how gimp thinks layers and a few tools should work and be the buggy mess that it is.

gimp is super powerful and does pretty much everything photoshop does but the learning curve has a fucking vertical asymptote and the UI is terrible

krita is good at maybe one or two things, i used it to paint the waifu for a while but ended up going back to photoshop

basically the only good photo editing / painting software is photoshop
but it's closed source $1000 adobeshit
what a world we live in where literally every single solution to this problem is awful

better than ps

gimp will also load all of the fonts you have installed, so it really depends on that. Same with photoshop, that is like 99% of your load time.
>>
>>47653231
Shouldn't that be negligible on linux?

fontconfig slowness is only a thing on Windows
