µBlock has been renamed to uBlock because of /g/'s autism

> µBlock -> uBlock.
>In case you wonder: yes, I've decided to drop the µ in favor of u, because I have seen too much arguing about how it should be pronounced, etc.

https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/0.9.2.1

Congrats, /g/. Are you happy now?
>>
nope
>>
R.I.P µBlock

we did it /g/. we changed the world.
>>
>>47150074
Wow /g/uys
Way to fuck this up

Quick question: Is the logo gonna change?
>>
>>47150074
as far as I've seen I was the only person who ever complained about it on /g/ so I'm not sure what you're getting at

Also this is a good thing because I used to think it was pronounced microblock. Now when I say "I'm not going to use ublock" I at least know how to pronounce the freakin thing.
>>
is it ooh block or you block now?

>not cockblock

Question: When I used HTTPSB, the default permissions were not very strict and I didn't need to fiddle around with it so much. But then when I tried uMatrix, the default permissions were very strict, and it was not fun to browse the net with it. How can I get uMatrix to behave like uBlock in that regard without too much hassle?
>>
I'm having difficulties pronouncing the new name. Can we please rename it?

Is uMatrix ever gonna get a Firefox port too?
>>
>>47150487
Imagine umatrix on FxAndroid?

Now that's fucking hardcore.
>>
>>47150588
Firefox already got sufficient alternatives.
>>
>>47150588
Gorhill is planning on porting it some day but he doesn't know the firefox addon api so he has to learn it first. Deathamns could port it also.
>>
>Reminder: Chromium (or browsers based on) still suffer from that ugly bug which causes a big chunk of memory leak each time a user opens the popup UI of an extension. Therefore, the more you use the popup UI in Chromium, the larger the memory footprint of µBlock (or any extension really) will grow. I've already seen feedback like "doesn't have a µ memory footprint at all for me. >250MB" (for µMatrix). This is important to keep this Chromium memory leak bug in mind if you make use of dynamic filtering, as this feature requires frequent access to the popup UI.

>but chromium has no mem leaks
TOP FUCKING KEK
>>
>>47150487
It will soon, extensions on mobile are not far away.
>>
>>47150649
But request policy is shit now and only noscript is the real alternative left.

Just because it's in some devel branch does not count as fixed.

Sheeeett. I just woke up. I should go back to bed
>>
>>47150828
Release versions of Chrome don't yet have the fix. That fix just landed in Chromium which is several versions ahead of Chrome. It's probably going to take like 2-3 months before the fix finally lands in Chrome
>>
What's the advantage of using an adblock addon over a custom hosts file?
>>
>>47150859
That sounds like a personal problem anon. The bug is fixed for me.
>>
>>47150885
Regex support, way easier to modify filters or configure, element hiding.
>>
Installed on Android Firefox
Jolly good add on.
>>
>>47150903
>regex support

Wots dat
>>
>>47150903
Also another neat thing about requestpolicy and ublock is that you can just globally block everything that isn't explicitly from the domain you're visiting. That cuts the amount of requests down significantly which saves bandwidth and makes it WAY harder for trackers or ads to get through.
>>
>>47150964
You use it to make filters that match strings of text.

For example you could tell ublock/adblock to block everything that has the subdomain "ad.*.(com|org|net)" and it would block everything with that subdomain, including "ad.google.com", "ad.dicks.org", or "ad.facebook.net."

No need for redundant filters for each combination of domains and TLDs
>>
>>47151079
Sound gay, I just put duct tape on my monitor where I see ads.

>find * -type f -exec grep -Il . {} \; -exec sed -i 's/µ/u/g' {} \;

>>
How do I turn off a rule inside a filterlist?
>>
>>47151511
Read the wiki
>>
>>47151511
you don't
you either have to manually write an exception filter yourself, or use dynamic filtering
I think this is something that's been requested, but he doesn't seem very fond of the idea
>>
>>47150487
No love for Firefox?
>>
Why isn't the version on Mozilla's addon page updating? It's stuck on 0.8.8.2
>>
I don't understand how there's any controversy? It's µ as in 10^-6. It's pronounced "mu." It more or less means small. As in µTorrent (used to be small) or, you know, µBlock...? "My computer science degree literally never mentioned scientific notation!"
>>
>>47150967
Except tons of modern websites rely on third parties to supply their content. That shit makes Noscript and Policeman a nightmare.
>>
>>47150964
>/g/
>What is regex
I didn't realize it was this bad.

>>47151811
Any implementation of it would be a massive performance hit
>>
>>47153383
Gorhill has always insisted that it be pronounced "you block". I have no idea why he used the micro symbol in the first place.

oohBlock; youBlock; ouiBlock;
>>

No, but you can install nearly every firefox extension on firefox's android browser.
