>uTorrent quietly installs a cryptocurrency miner on users' computers

>The popular BitTorrent client uTorrent is facing a backlash after trying to turn a buck through cryptocurrency mining.

>"We have reviewed the issue closely and can confirm there is no silent install happening. It is in fact impossible for partner software to be installed without user permission. We are continuing to look at the issue. But it is almost certain these users accepted the offer during install...

I hope your'e not using utorrent anymore

Either Deluge or Transmission. Both FOSS.

There is literally no reason to be using a proprietary torrent client.
>>
>>46898036
It works on when does too
>>
>>46898080

Proprietary clients are faster and better because there are paid professionals working on it. Meanwhile, "free" torrent programs were written by basement dwellers for free, with no guarantee that it will work properly.

You literally mean rtorrent and transmission the worlds best and fastest clients that are open source considered the best high performance p2p clients to suck?

Please tell me which proprietary clients surpace in pure performance these 2.
>>
>>46898122
The great thing about FOSS is that you can run it however you want. Some people want to run Transmission locally, some people want to run it remotely; there is no wrong way to use it, it's purely a matter of preference.

Seedboxes are the cancer of private trackers. Kill yourself.

Why would they even do this? Weren't there ads on utorrent already? Didn't they get enough money selling ads? Did they really think people wouldn't notice them sneaking a miner onboard? What the fuck is going on?

Or are they just relying on the general public to be that stupid and thinking "Well, if it's using my PC when I'm not using it, what's the harm?"

I installed uTorrent the other day

Uninstalled right then and there

Because there are better programs that you don't have to do that.

this so much

>>46898515
There is no malware on old uTorrent 2.2.1 (which still works perfectly). And you can find vulnerabilities in any bittorrent client if you look hard enough, the point is there is nothing that actually exploits them. Any virus (or w/e) you might get through uTorrent you could just as easily get through rtorrent or Transmission

Also Transmission has such a shitty GUI, I tried using it for about a month and I fucking hated it
>>

can I do that with a droplet instead?

Ok, I'm going to spoonfeed you a bit, m8. I'm assuming you're only using public trackers since you're this new to torrenting.

You go to a torrent site (torrentz.eu is good for indexing sites and then you pick a site for the torrent you want to downlad).

When you're looking for a torrent, you want to check the leechers and seeders. Leechers are people who are currently downloading something from the torrent and seeders are people who are only uploading the files of the torrent. (There are some exceptions. For example somebody who has only set their client to download 50% of the files and has completed them and uploads them is still counted as a leecher)

Now that you added a torrent with good seed/leech ratio to your client, check the tracker list from torrentz.eu for the torrent you downloaded and add all the trackers to your torrent (right click, properties, trackers or something. You'll figure it out)

When you're done, you probably want to delete the torrent (not torrent+files). KEEP IN MIND: this only is the case when using public trackers. If you ever join private trackers, you want to keep your torrents seeding so you return what you've taken to the tracker, or you will probably be banned.

Knowing how to torrent is why i use utorrent. Every other program takes a shit when trying to load 1000 torrents on startup.

Also become I'm not retarded I installed a version that doesn't have this problem. Learn how to use a computer.

>>
>>46898739
I forgot to mention, when you're in a torrent site, there is either a link to download the .torrent file, or a magnet link (or both). When you use the magnet link, your browser should automatically start your torrent client and start downloading the file without needing the actual .torrent file.
