The only time I use my phone like that is while working out. While waiting for something, I either use a regular computer or just enjoy real life and think about things. Spending time idle for a while and thinking usually helps me analyze current problems and sometimes helps me come up with solutions.

I spend 5-6 hours in public transportation every day. Expecting people to be interested in talking to other people is something you quickly turn back on. Rarely can you have an interesting conversation, the person next to you might jump off 5 minutes later anyway.

My problem is with my girlfriend. She's constantly on facebook on her phone. Shes in these groups (which are admittedly really good groups with intelligent and interesting discussion). But as soon as shes alone, she starts complaining about being bored and sad.
