mpd is the best and most configurable solution by far

plebs will suggest “all in one” bloatware like deadbeef/cmus/clementine but don't fall for it

mpd lets you combine different clients for different tasks, depending on your needs

I use vimus+autoplay.py+xmobar

You can't control mpd from an Android device though, can you?

Shit and they look better than the Clementine one.

Thanks bro, I'll be checking out mpd

You can, the MPD protocol is inherently networked (sort of like X11 or DisplayPort).

Just make sure to change the bind_to_address configuration to bind to something other than localhost so you can actually connect to it from another PC. It's disabled by default for safety.

Ncmpc?

Depends on your taste.

I use vimus, but ncmpcpp is probably the most popular. There's a good list of them over at http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Clients

Vimus is written in Haskell(tm)

deadbeef for a foobar-style experience
gmusicbrowser for an itunes-style experience

both are for more lightweight than their proprietary counterparts as well.

100% this. It's basically a more minimal Foobar2K for Linux.

mpd + GMPC

https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=List_of_recommended_GNU/Linux_software#Music_Players

definitive balance between bloat (GMPC extensible through plugins) and speed/functionality (mpd), also you can setup a music server from your computer and you can actually be able to listen to your music anywhere if you want through an mpd client connected to the internet and to your computer.
>>
>>45623041
Just the mpd for itself is worth to do a setup, it actually doesn't matter what client you use (more or less some of them have more stuff) but the main functionality is through the mpd itself, which is as minimal and powerful as it can get. I definitively recommend you that since were on holidays read on how to set it up
