The huge corporations are winning
I never expected to live to see the day when getting content would range from impractical to impossible. I guess I always took it for granted.
Internet used to be mostly unregulated, anonymous and truly free
Now it's taken over by huge corporations who make it so society expects you to use your real name online, who track your every activity until you're uniquely identifiable across all websites under the guise of marketing and national security.
A friend of mine (normalfag) told me something interesting the other day when we were talking about the semantics of web browsers. Remember how we used to say "surf the internet"? I asked her why we don't say that anymore.
She told me surfing sounds more like an adventure, like exploring. And that most people don't do that anymore, they mostly just browse a couple of websites.
Internet is just not as fun anymore.
>>

>>
Well, i guess I'll have to use kickass.to or torrentz.eu now.
>>
I agree with that sentiment. Depending on piratebay was holding people back. Now that piratebay is down, and hopefully down for good. There will be better, more secure, and more accessible alternative that will be developed. Depending on torrent is not good for future. There needs to be something better.

I'm really going to miss TPB. It was a great site, and I'm so used to it...
Anyhow, magnet link is still available for all their torrents, so I'm sure someone will [successfully] revive it.

By the way, there's one "replacement" I've heard of that has existed for the last few years and is behind a paywall. The password is easy to guess, though. I won't link it here for obvious reasons (plus they clone other popular torrent sites too), but it's hosted in Estonia.

The password? well, it's 5 characters, the last 2 are the same number, the exact amount of money spent! The first three characters are a common verb..

anyone knows what is it?

Best. Since stuff is stored on a server, you get max download speed. No bullshit seeders. Also no RIAA/MPAA fake seeders to worry about

Ok technically literate people: why isn't there a widely used system for p2p website hosting (as in, a swarm downloads and uploads the site itself)?

For files, this was an obvious improvement as the feds can't 'go for the uploaders'.

So why does a site have to rely on some server room in Sweden?

Test

Quite why we're not all out in the streets burning down the towers full of insanely rich people who look down on the rest of the world as their piles of money grow higher.

The wealth divide is not only outlandish it's downright immoral, and shit like this is how they got to where they are and there's no way back now, the people who are best placed to stop this shit are being paid off, and the governments we live under no longer serve the people who elected them.

Which was the only good thing about the pirate bay: people commenting on the quality so you don't download garbage like with other torrent sites.

The clue is in the 'rip' portion. Most likely divx avi. Go for those DTS files in MKV and they are much larger and better quality.

Somehow I doubt people who SERIOUSLY feel this way will ever have grandchildren in the first place.

Anyway, it's not the end of the damn world. Besides, there is a different scenario in which people realize how much time of their life they might have wasted on doing the same thing over and over again without ever finding a way of defeating their addiction.

Yes, I am projecting.

I remember when it went down a couple of years back, someone uploaded a torrent somewhere where it had an archive of all the magnet links that were on the tracker at a specific point, did they do the same thing again this time.

Get out of there. They kill torrent uploads, have shitty traffic management and block everything the Jew asks them to.

But let me guess... They're the only ones who offer that glorious fibre optic cable you the tax payer paid for during the NTL days?

God I hate plutocracies.
>>

This.
You never had the resources to stop it.
The best you could do was delay it by a year or two while the powers that be changed the name of the law and submitted it with less fanfare every 3 months until people got bored and tired of fighting.

This is what we are. We don't fight unless there is some real hardship, and when something is done to us enough, it stops being a hardship, and just becomes part of life.

Serfdom is coming back, and by the time it does, you'll be grateful.

Am I the only one who fucking hates these liberal hippy morons who say things like 'information deserves to be free' and 'technically it's just a long binary number, you can't copyright that' etc.

I mean, the whole information is free thing would be a decent point, that is if we're talking about some key medical research hidden behind some greedy paywall, not the latest episode of some shitty TV show purely made possible by capital gain.

Fucking just say 'I pirate because I know I'll get away with it and it saves me loads of money' not this liberal hippy dumb shit.

someone should create a private /g/ tracker server.

Yup. It's the shittiest justification for what amounts to the lowest level of crime ever.

I'll give them a bit of leeway based on the fact these assholes contribute fuck all to society and are generally detrimental to it.
Noted here: >>45564664

But it's still getting something without paying for it at the end of the day. Something with which I have no issue because I'd never buy any of that shit anyway (another shit justification, but the truth) and I'm part of what is essentially a tiny minority who doesn't detract from the vast amount of money these guys make anyhow.

>>
>>45559076
Most of the site was magnets which are impossible to remove until the last person seeding decides to stop and the link itself is deleted off of whatever computers have it saved as a text file or in their torrent software.

I'm pretty sure there is a collection which has every single magnet link TPB used and anyone could just make a basic search website for all those torrents. They may not be classified into categories but oh well.
>>
They will find a way. They always have. With me, we have victory, always. Do not confuse me with your words.

>founders arrested for obviously bullshit reasons

Not even sure how this is happening. This is corruption to the highest degree yet nobody bats an eye lid. People imprisoned unlawfully, basically kidnapped by corporations, against human rights, in the first world. Like seriously, this is so shitty. Everyone who handled the assaults on TBP should be hanged and their families gassed.

Thats the thing, I just cant get used to it. I should have perhaps but I just cant, its human rights getting blasted apart and if it happens it makes me think that we are just living in somewhere like russia, I would even say so when people comment then that its the first world and we got good rights here.

it changes the perspective for me at least. Eventually it does rub off somewhat on other people I hope.

Its kinda difficult to resist however when everyone else constantly reminds you how good the lack of corruption is with pols, statistics or whatever. Makes me think that its mostly just fabricated.

I mean, I am not retarded, I just cant ignore it, I may forget it if they fill the dialogue with the opposite. But I really dont want to forget.

There's nothing any of us can do about it, the world is what it is.

There was a time when we could all pick up a sword, and go take back control of the situation, put reasonable people in charge and restart the cycle.

We're beyond that now, there's no amount of anything we can do to wrestle back control of the planet, put it in the hands of incorruptible heroes and put ourselves back on the right track.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer is an absolute now.

We can damn well make sure that the sentiments are not that of happiness and ignorance though.

But I think that the march on the freedom of information will also put that to a hold. With the "I am not a robot, please record my ip and a host of other personal information and send it off to google to be processed for thought crimes" to start off with haha.

Sometimes I really do wonder if it wouldnt be better if we just all nuked eachother.

That's where I'm hoping we end up.

I'm a fucking miserable cunt, I've pretty much written off my life as a human.

However I do like the idea of watching the world tear itself apart, so I sit here and wait for my own death, hoping I at least get to see the start of some kind of dystopian future.
>>
>>45565843
on /pol/ they used to say that it was the jews, but what they dont realize that even with the 18 million jews worldwide they cant be in every crevice of society. (they make their nests in the media)

The ones actually doing the other stuff are just whites likes us. Greedy fuckers who lack a concept of a "society". Greed and violence and the best part is that if we who preach ever get there to where they are, we might do exactly the same.

perhaps the world would be better off being run by a computer, one with lots of guns hopefully.

the distribution of companies is something like this

90% pure evil
9.9% neutral
0.1% good

We are already living in a grimdark 41k universe. There are pretty much no good guys and the whole world is filled with death and exploitation by the strong over the weak and mostly importantly, the cowardly.

the corruption index also must be revised. Along with the economic freedom index, and the human rights one. This circlejerking of institutions has to stop and people should know that where they live in is still shit.
>>
>>45566253
Far too many people don't care.

Not even stuff like occupy wall street had an impact.

That got a lot of attention, lots of people got onboard, it didn't change shit and nobody cared after a little while.

Short of everyone picking up a gun and forcibly removing those at the top, we're not gonna get anywhere.
>>
>>45566573
well some of the more educated ones probably care. Otherwise they wouldnt have these circle jerk indexes for various things. If we could shatter their walls a bit it probably wouldnt change much, but at least another part of the population will be severely depressed and it may break somekind of gloomy treshold so that we can ascend into the cyberpunk dystopia that we deserve. I want to be the shadow runner.
