What exactly does a download accelerator like DownThemAll do? I've never understood the use for it

Also what are the essential privacy filters for ABP? I've only got the defaults.

DownThemAll allows you to download everything you find in a site with a very high speed trunking files into very small pieces (similar to microtorrent technology). For example, lets say you want to download all the images which are on a gallery, DTA allows you to do so with 2 clicks and at a high speed

For ABP, just put Fanboy Ultimate List, ignore any others. Anti-adblock killer filter is ok too
