Stop spreading this shit.

There's no way thorium could be a magical cure for all our energy troubles. Otherwise we'd already be using it.

>Costs less
>Outputs more

Yeah, power companies would be all over that shit.

Seriously! I have been a long time supporter for thorium.. The only reason it doesn’t happen is because the US limits other countries from devolving nuclear technology.. There was a lot of development done with it in the 60's before Nixon shut it down in exchange for plutonium, which can be weponized.

dude over the past 100 years energy has production has always continued to increase cost efficiency. That is what technology does to industry.

I'm not saying thorium is the god particle, im just saying that its absolutely possible that the next breakthrough in energy production will be more cost effective than the current methods. it wouldnt be much of a breakthrough if it wasn't

HTTPS as implemented by browsers is worthless in terms of the security that image is talking about.

Any single one of the certificate authorities your browser blindly trusts by default is a point of weakness, which if compromised allows the attacker to forge their own "legit" certs and MITM your SSL connections undetected. All of them.

The only HTTPS you can trust is one the browser itself doesn't - self-signed certificates.
>>
>>44167297
what about low-level snooping? I'm not on the run from the NSA, I'd just like to be more secure. Is https wet tissue?
>>
>>44167297
>The only HTTPS you can trust is one the browser itself doesn't - self-signed certificates.
How exactly would that prevent MITM attacks? CAs exist because you can't always place your trust in the website you're browsing, thus a third party is used to verify that both people are who they say they are.

HTTPS itself if quite solid but the way that certs are distributed is quite open to snooping from government agencies. CAs can be coerced into cooperating with authorities which means it does NOTHING to prevent government snooping. It's still very solid against snooping from crooks though and is highly recommended anyway.

Self-signed certs are technically more resistant to government snooping because the government would have to coerce each website into complying but with the current system there's no way to verify that a website is truly who they say they are without a third party to vouch for them which is why CAs exist.

The most important reason why Thorium hasn't been developed until now was because Uranium reactors were in a much further stage of development. Why? Because you can make weapons-grade plutonium in uranium reactors.

That's literally the only reason.

Based on those annual costs figures, assuming installation of a reactor costs you 59 mill you would still have 980,000k to spend on hookers and blow after covering annual costs for the reactor.

Here's something interesting for you guys, the DoD 5220.22-M method is no longer permitted, nor is any software based data sanitization method for that matter, for use by various members of the CSA including the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Central Intelligence Agency.
>>

Meaning they can no longer decrypt it or it's unsafe for them to continue using?

Software based data sanitization is out.

http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/522022m.pdf

This is the last semi-related instructions (NISPOM), they leave out actual instructions on how it is now done.

"8-301. Clearing and Sanitization. Instructions on
clearing, sanitization and release of IS media shall be
issued by the accrediting CSA"

IS Information System
CSA Cognizant Security Agency

I'll let you speculate.

For the record, no one really uses Gutmann anymore, all the standards are based on a shared common set of instructions;

First pass is 0
Second pass is 1
Third pass is random and verify

Pretty much standard across the board, AUS and NZ standards are just a single random and verify. Germany is overkill, with 0>1>0>1>0>1>random.

It gets a bit misty with Russia, we don't have any official data on their encryption standards, just some flakey 20 year old document.

GOST R 50739-95 (???? P 50739-95) - 0>random

I have the PDF if anyone wants it.

Hardware sanitization is the norm now, degaussing and physical destruction via incineration are the only approved methods.

If anyone wants a read;
