Theme engine, Pocket peek notifications, and that this rom is the only rom that runs really well on this phone. Much better than stock, and the smoothest experience i've ever had on this phone.

I was going to trash it but now i'll keep it until chinkphones pump out Android L phones and android Wear

Better battery, less bloat, nice built in customization for theming or usefulness.

My only negative for being on a custom rom is the fact I can't use wifi calling with T-Mobile.

Assuming that you'd get a Note 3 Neo for 29,570 Rs (as listed on Samsung site ~500 USD) you can get a Note 2 for much cheaper and have a very similar experience, and possibly more software updates.

Pretty much this.
>>
>>42912160
Stock AOSP, don't install gapps, install x-posed framework and get X-privacy. it lets you control the permissions for each app. use it to quarantine every app off from any personal info.
>>
>>42912143
oh yeah well how come I can't modify my car's built in computer/firmware?
>>
>>42912143

If you don't want your carrier to lock your phone, don't buy your phone from your carrier.
>>
>>42912143
They lock it for security reasons.
You can just unlock it if you want, no one stops you.
You usually void your warranty unlocking it because they don't want faggots who brick their phones changing them everyday.
>>
>>42912190
you cant "just unlock it". people have to find an exploit first. and sometimes that doesn't happen.

for instance: verizon galaxy S5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728051

its been months and still no way to unlock it.

Paranoid Android 4.42 Stable.
Franco Kernel ver. 209.

Fucking awesome combination, super happy with it. I was using Carbon before, but after KitKat they changed the PIE to SlimPIE which in my opinion is fucking horrible and clunky. So PA has the best version of PIE even though it is heavily missing features I wish was there.

the biggest bottleneck is the 512mb NAND. CM11 no longer fits on there so DataOnExt is the only option. Gotta have a microSD with good random 4K performance. It just works, though hover and peek are pretty nice
I wish the maintainer updated it to the current official build, though...

It works. I use a launcher for all the small customizations. Love the default music player.

I think if you want to use knock off with Nova or something, you need to download an app like Screen Off & Lock and assign a double tap gesture to that.

Does anyone have a tablet they'd recommend to ROM? I plan on primarily using it for note taking, reading PDFs and studying, but I'd like to get a nice one in the sub $200 range to trick out thats going to run smoothly.

Question for custom ROM users.

If I install a custom ROM on my LG Lucid, will I still be able to call, text and use through my network? And if anyone has one, where can I find babby's first ROM/rooting guide?

>>

I'm not them but I tried Carbon ROM about 4 months ago and was having awful lagging and overheating issues. Slim runs nice and smooth but I'm on CM11 now because I wanted to use themes.
>>
Where do you guys get your themes and icons?
>>
>>42923759
Play Store or XDA
>>
>>42923759
XDA Mega theme thread, there's a ton of free ones on there.
>>
>>42923284
Depends on the stability of the ROM, and whether or not you properly configure the radios if the ROM you're flashing requires them. As for babby's first custom ROM, look at Cyanogenmod or SlimROMs.
As for the guide, Google is your friend. Or DuckDuckGo if you're one of the tinfoil-hatters. There should be a one-click root for the Lucid somewhere but maybe I'm wrong. Always make sure that the root method you're using is for the version of Android that you're currently running. Amateur mistake, but that's how I got my first soft-brick.

>Removable battery
What kind of feature is that? It's like you want your phone to be less sturdy and more pricey for no benefit at all.
>Good battery life
Well, you have a smartphone with 720p+ screen that runs on latest gen networks (which are enormous battery hogs), what do you expect? Same battery life as your 10 years old Nokia that had 120x340 pixel screen and could hardly connect to Edge?
>SD card slot
I could understand this if you had only a smartphone and tv. I have 16gb Nexus 4 with broken ROM installation (cba to full wipe it at this moment) that only allows me to use 5.67gb of space. I have lots of songs there, some applications, pictures and still over 1.5gb of free space. Only time I maxed out this space was when I went for a trip without laptop so I put there a whole series to watch on a bus.

I swear to god, people just refuse to accept some technologically beneficial just because they are set in their ways.
>>
>>42924287
I wish you nexus shills would stop compromising just because you have some baseless vendetta against Samsung. You guys are letting Google get away with killing AOSP.
>>
>>42924482
I'm not a Nexus shill. I just prefer a much better engineering piece than something manufactured by company that spends more money on advertising rather than R&D. Not to mention that it was Samsung that started killing Android and smartphone market. If it wasn't for their Touchshit and hardware quality, we could be enjoying much better devices with apple leaving the smartphone market.
>>
stock roms are the only way to go these days
the shit drivers on aosp roms are gonna hold aosp back from now
>>
>>42924668
What are you fucking talking about? Samsung is the only reason why Android is ahead of Apple. It started with the S2 then the Galaxy nexus then the S3 then the note 2 then the S4. HTC was always fucking awful and their only good phone was Windows Mobile 6.5. Also last time I checked, Jellybean, KitKat, and L are copypasting features and looks from TouchWiz.
>>
>>42924866
>stock android copying a cluttered, laggy, gimmicky UI instead of using a clean, minimal design.

Nice try though m8
>>
Anyone tried the CM Installer? I'm going to try it tomorrow on my Gs4. Hopefully it will work.
>>
>>42927320
Works well, basically unlocks the boot loader, flashes a custom CWM based recovery, and then flashes a stable branch of CM11. From there you can stick with CM or flash a different ROM honestly. Just remember: DO NOT flash a nightly build over a stable, always do a factory data wipe from recovery before installing any ROM unless it's an update to your current one.
>>
Hey, i just bought Nexus 5 and im wondering what ROM should i install on it? CM11S, Paranoid Android, or anything else. My first real Android phone btw. Thanks
>>
>>42928290
It's all about which features you want. Cyanogenmod has a nice balance of customization and performance. There are many other Cyanogen/AOSP, and even stock, based ROMs available for the Nexus 5, just check the XDA android development.

ParanoidAndroid 3.99 (yes, that particular version)
Actually usable pie. Customizable quick settings tiles. DPI adjustment.

I'm afraid I'll stay on this version of PA for a very long time because newer ones are I've seen so far are far less stable and are missing important settings. Maybe I'll check out PAC-man later. Can't be bothered right now.

The problem is root only now is that my phone is currently not rooted and running the stock 4.4.2 from samsung. Mine is the gt-i9505 which i bought directly from samsung store so i don't think it would have the locked bootloader problem as with the carrier variants. I'll look into the towelroot to see if that works and then give titanium a shot.
>>
>>42933596
Cyanogenmod is no good on the s4? If the stock room with root is acting funny have you tried a stock based ROM? That could be the mix of modification and stability type
you're looking for, try android development for the S4 on XDA forums

>>42933670
I'm on CM11 right now, its pretty good, but theres 2 things i miss from Stock, working equalizer and working camera. Might try again those stock based ROM's, tried once and it was horrible experience. Maybe i need to try few more.
>>
>>42933717
It might seem funny, but it's little over 15 minutes of screen time. The older Note could get 4h maximum when it was my primary device, now just using it for calling and messaging.

The Note 3 can get around 8h with 4G on, with wifi only it's like 9h and watching videos with mobile data turned off can get me like 11 hours.

>>
>>42933844
The Cyanogenmod team has revamped the theming engine of CM11, it now allows for mixing of different theme assets like boot animations, styles, fonts, wallpapers, icons, and lock screen wallpapers. Theme developers can now theme quite a bit more of the GUI. It also supports legacy themes from the old T-Mobile theme chooser.

As for themes you can find a lot of them for free here, there's even several that cost money in the play store that you can download free of charge.
