Just switched from firefox to dwb

everything that required a billion extentions in firefox works in dwb natively (vertical tabs, noscript, requestpolicy, refcontrol)

fully scriptable with javascript and shell scripts

uses ~200mb memory for 10 tabs when firefox used over 1gb

fully customisable vim-like user-interface and keybindings

Why haven't you switched to the master race yet, only dwb can save you from australias

Then the closest you could do is firefox + pentadactyl, but it's not as lightweight as dwb probably is (which I don't use myself by the way, I stick with iceweasel/firefox, though I really dislike Australis).

does it actually block network traffic from going out?

i've heard too many fucking chrome shills claim that
>adblock works on chrome too!
and when I check every couple months, i notice it doesn't block some fucking shit that's rendered in a js callback and the network traffic goes out to a blocked host and chrome lazily only blocks it from being rendered while network traffic goes out, but on firefox it doesn't do that.

Noscript is arguably less strict, it allows all scripts on the page based on domain or url. For example if you are on nigger.com and it loads a script from faggot.net, the script will run only if you've whitelisted nigger.com, even if you haven't whitelisted faggot.net

Requestpolicy is stricter, it uses subdomains not just the base domains, and can whitelist based on url or domain

is there any of so-called minimalist browsers on osx ?
>>
>>41864594
safari
>>
>>41848336
>>Firebug
>There is literally no reason to use this in 2014 as firefox has had an inspector for years

You wouldn't be saying that if you were forced to use Firefox's native inspector professionally. It's like using GIMP over Photoshop.
>>
I can't seem to get links to open from a terminal in dwb, clicking on them just does nothing?
>>
>>41847768
I'll probably switch to dwb in a couple months. I just started vim yesterday. I'll have to figure out which Firefox features I actually like and want a replacement for, and what shit I'm just using to make firefox not shit.

Also bookmarks.

Off the top of my head:
Does dwb have webm and mp4 support like firefox? Is there an equivalent of mozplugger where I can embed mpv support into the browser?
>>
>>41864594
Dwb probably works on osx if you don't mind the OSX god awful ugly Window decorations
>>
>>41867802

>Does dwb have webm and mp4 support like firefox

Yes, it uses webkit, it has feature parity with safari and chrome

>Is there an equivalent of mozplugger where I can embed mpv support into the browser?

Yes and it's a lot simpler, install the contenthandler extention, though I just use a keybind that launches mpv and passes it the current url
>>
>>41867899
But that launched mpv in a separate window, correct? That's easy, I'm curious if you can embed the mpv player inside dwb.
>>
Holy shit, I’ve looked at dwb a long long time ago, it was very basic then, apparently it has come a long way since then. I guess I’ll give it a try now.
>>
*cough*
>>
>>41867802
>Does dwb have webm and mp4 support like firefox?

It works OOTB with auto loop.
>>
Anyone got working ViewTube script for DWB?

Am I missing something here? Why does it have such terrible font rendering?
>>
>>41872863
Mine does not.
Set up a different font.
And use the git version!

Can you change the keys used for hinting? I've set them to "asdfgtrew" in Firefox/pentadactyl, and mapped space to F. Makes for some nice rolls.

Is there a way to run a bash userscript whenever a page is loaded or a tab is switched to?
>>
Yes!
We can make it a better browser, a /g/ browser. With blackjack and hookers.
If you can't code in C, write a userscript.
Together we can do it.
>>
>>41847768
>using browsers with outdated WebKit versions just because you're a ricer and want to avoid using more than 10% of your 8GB of RAM
HTML and HTTP is general is bloated as fuck. Stop being a ricer faggot and use a browser with a good engine.
>>
>>41873708
You can put a .sh script in your userscripts forler and run it with a key. I don't know if you can do it automaticaly, ask devs.
>>
>>41873708
probably, look on the arch wiki for some script examples
>>
>>41873712
You can probably force javascript to run your bash script on pageload.
>>
Is there a list of optional dependencies somewhere? I'm missing something for certain tracks on soundcloud.
>>
>>41847768
WebMs don't work for me in dwb. Mozplugger was detected automatically, so mp4s play fine, but Webm = no go. Anyone know what to do?

no scroll bar
>>
>>41873971
You can set up scroll bar visibility in options you moron.
>>
>>41873971
There is a url bar at the bottom, type in 'go' to edit the url. Scrollbars can be enabled but it tells you where you are on the page in the bottom bar.

I have all the ones listed there but I still can't play certain tracks, like this https://soundcloud.com/funktiononechile/sets/techno

You imput new ulr with shift + o (this tab) or shift + O (new tab).

Anything else?

>>
>>41874015
I had the same issue with soundcloud in firefox, I had to set some gstreamer to false in about:config because of some kind of bug but I don't know how you could do the same thing in dwb or if is is a wider bug that does indeed affect dwb.

Ok. The default soundcloud does not work at the moment. File a bug.
You can still open the track by opening the "embed" window. This script works and plays music just fine.
>>
>>41874168
Nice, thanks for the workaround.
>>
>>41874225
Are you using Adblock?
Some people say that adding SC to whitelist solved their problem (on FF).
>>
>>41874255
I am yes but not sure that's the issue, most things play ok on there. This is the bug that firefox has https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/988802, I'm wondering if it is the same bug?
>>
>>41847998
At least it’s embeddable and usable from every language known to man, so you can develop however you wish.

Gecko is joined at the hip with XULRunner. Want to write a native gecko browser? Fuck you, it’s XULRunner or nothing. That’s so unbelievably shitty it can’t be put into words.
>>
I love this browser, the more I dig in to the the better it gets.
>>
>>41873991
Where?
>>
I started the dwb craze on /g/.
>>
>>41874482

>>
Tried it. Was terrible, like all Webkit browsers.

Pentadactyl might be memory hungry, but at least it works worth a damn. I'm still waiting for my Emacs-like browser.

>>
>>41874531
People keep saying they see differences between Webkit and Blink stuff, but I’m not seeing it at all. At least on my machine the only difference is that Blink has shitty text rendering and drinks more power.

Gecko is a nice engine but FF has been turning into a potato since version 4.x. Why did they have to kill off Camino…
>>
>>41874298
Could be. It seems that SoundCloud's OCSP implementation is shitty which causes problems on many different browsers.
Couldn't you write/find a userscript that would open a vlc stream on every soundcloud link?
This should be pretty easy.
>>
>>41874582
Eh, Australis is shit (Pentadactyl is now basically necessary for usability) but under the hood, FF desperately needed the updates.
>>
>>41874586
guess it would be possible and maybe simple but I wouldn't really know where to start.
>>
>>41874481
I'm still trying to get webms to work. WTF, dwb.
>>
>>41874661
Webkit doesn’t have VP8 support. On OS X, installing the Perian QT plugin lets Webkit browsers play webms but I don’t know what linux people can do. I suspect that the VLC/gstreamer browser plugin might fix your issue, though.
>>
>>41874661
Well, I got part of it to work; it doesn't seem to work in youtube embeds, though. On firefox, I liked being able to choose between mp4 and webm depending on my mood.
>>
>>41874690
yeah pretty sure there is a gstreamer optional dependency for firefox that enables them, not sure which though
>>
>>41874709
I checked and they work now with sound too. I don't get why it's not working with youtube, but I guess it's not really a big deal, since mp4 works just fine.
>>
>>41874759
Youtube is stupidly picky about its HTML5 support, it’s rather annoying.

You can start by learning how to grab the correct MP3 ID of the file. Then you can run it with no problems.
