Damn straight. Nothing is more honorable than fighting so the government can stay in power. You didn't choose to be born within these borders, but you sure as shit can choose to defend the corrupt government that creates those borders. Hoorah!

People that defend their homeland from foreign invading governments are terrorists! If you disagree, you're a terrorist too!

God bless all the men and women who lack education and reap great benefits for defending the corrupt government. Weed is still illegal under federal law and I love that people are too stupid to stop voluntarily signing their lives away to keep it that way.

And the military would LOVE marijuana legalization for the civilian side FYI, because right now qualified applicants for programs are being turned away or held up (needing a waiver signed by an O-4 or above) because of prior marijuana use. The top school I'm applying to offers them all, I think . I didn't consider Navy because I also read they want you to major in STEM. I know for AFROTC they'll hold your GPA to a a higher standard if it's not an essential major.

Army seems like the easiest to get into, they offer a two year program while the rest want 3. But it seems the hardest to actually complete.

The truth is Marines have a lot less money so all their shit is usually hand-me-downs from the navy and shit you would get all these bonus pays for is just considered part of the job as a marine. Since they can't pay you they typically try to indoctrinate you into a cult of being a marine and ego stroke you.

>>
>>37878867
I have no idea about rangers but just look at the budget of marines and then compare that to the Navy as a whole. Literally every single plane and weapon they have are just hand-me-downs.
>>
>>37878867
>do the Army Rangers get treated better
HAHA no

Ranger Batt. has the worst hazing and typically the worst treatment in the US military. The entire regiment is 18-22 year old's doing a mans job of being special operators. Not only that, any fuck dtain that signs up to be a Marine becomes a marine, Rangers have a long and very rigorous selection process, 8 weeks in fact, and the fuck stains are weeded out. RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) is 10x harder and the smoking is WAY more intense than any Marine will ever experience.

I served as an 0331 in the Marines and am now an 11C in the National Guard, and hoenstly, he's right about the Marines equiptment being shit. We stilled used old m16's with fixed stocks. In the national guard I have better equipment than active duty Marines.
Also, the difference between Marines and Army infantry is.... Nothing. The reason people think Marines are way more "elite" or better is because that's the image we projected, and still do.

I've always wondered, why do people join the military and become pog's?

We, since we were young boys, have been raised to idolize warriors and heros. Knights, ninjas, cowboys, etc. Western culture, no, every culture in history views this as the ideal man. It is strange to me to see so many men volunteer to be any thing but that. If I was to join the military, I'd want the most warrior-like job possible, Rangers, Special Forces, Infantry.

I am not making fun, I'd just really like to understand. Why do you guy choose to take the easy way instead of wanting to be warriors?
>>
>>37880149
Did you have to be smart? What's your major? Have you actually committed yet?
>>
>>37880171
My major is history. For Navy op you should definitely major in engineering if you want the scholarship. I got lucky and killed my interview. The Marines don't care what your major is. Tons of Criminal Justice majors in my unit.

You need a solid high school GPA and extracurriculars. Doesn't necessarily mean smart, just smart enough to look good on paper. Once you're in a unit you need above a 2.5 or you get put in front of a panel and don't get paid until you get your grades together.

I'm signing the paperwork when I get back to school.

Most people don't join the military because they had a choice, they were given an ultimatum.
>I can work in a shit factory job for the rest of my life raising this bastard child or I can join the military and have my family completely taken care of
That's the average soldier, let alone those who never had a chance at college or are just too retarded to do anything else.
85% of all service jobs are non-combat and if they are willing to pay me 30k dollar sign on bonus for them, hell yeah i'd take it as an 18 year old with nothing to my name.
>>
>>37878705
Your first 9 months in the marines will be humping it in the woods seeing if you have what it takes to lead under stress.

My major was accounting and not once did I think at OCS, "damn wish I had studied harder in college" but I did think "damn, wish i practiced running in boots and dealing with extreme hunger more"

Yea marines get a bad rap for being the dumbest but you got to jump through some hoops to be a marine that dont require you to have full knowledge of the mitochondria from freshmen bio.

Best spend all your time learning marine corps history if you want to crush marine corps academics. I can still hear the entire company bitching about the 2nd history test at ocs.
>>
>>37880350
What are your best tips for OCS and TBS? And did you do NROTC? If so, what was mountain warfare training like? I'm up for that next summer
>>
>>37880159

Because not everyone wants to come back with PTSD and try to kill themselves at point blank range with a gun.

And some of the certifications in POG jobs can get you really good civilian jobs too.

Like a 68C gets their RN after AIT. You're getting paid to be a fucking RN man.

Why would I choose something retarded like infantry and have no real world skills afterwards?

Most of us don't want to stay 20+ years and get the retirement.
>>

Marines are always struggling for funds but they have the benefit of attracting the best talent. They make due with worse gear and less money because of the people who are marines. Throughout history it always has been the marines coming to bail out the army. There is a reason why the branch hasnt been done away with.

And for as far Rangers, yea fucking right. Freaking OCS is more of a big deal. Getting to repeat phases? Are you kidding me?

Know how many women have passed IOC? none. And our wookies out perform any army chick any day.

Women have passed ranger school, your point is forever invalid.
>>

>>
>>37880418
Ranger school is an Army leadership course.
It has nothing to do with Ranger Regiment, which is a Special Operations unit that, to this day, has had 0 women serve in it.

Not only that, but fags like you are the reason I decided to go Army National Guard instead of Marine Reserves after my 6 years in the corp.
If by "the best talent" you mean 18 year old Puerto Ricans with low self esteem, so they try to act tough to hide the fact, yeah, then you're right.
>>
>>37880375
>What are your best tips for OCS and TBS?

Honestly, get super drunk for a week straight and get used to waking up at 4 am the next day and PT'ing while hungover Also do this on averaging 4 hours of sleep a night. Thats the best way to simulate the feeling of OCS.

Its honestly going to be alot of luck. I know gys there who were there for their 3rd attempt. Getting injured is very easy and youre your own advocate for that. The instructors will scream do go faster and harder but chances are you will just injure yourself. Dont be stupid.

Getting in the right platoon will be luck also, some sergeant instructors are worse than others and its going to be a game of being less shitty than the person next to you. Peer evals are killer and I got fucked by them hard. By week 5 everybody who was shitty will be gone but youre still being ranked first to last and those people ranked last are almost always kicked out even if they dont suck badly. Youre going to have to vote somebody off the island. I ran into this issue on the week 9 peer eval and had to beg some guys to give me good reviews so I wouldnt get booted.

As for TBS its more of the same but with no more yelling
>>
>>37880475
>18 year old Puerto Ricans with low self esteem

Pro tip: All junior enlisted suck in every branch

Best talent in that people who make things go, namely NCO's and the O's.

>>37880707
Aren't Combat Engineers basically just Infantrymen that does construction and blow shit up? That's what the video is telling me.
>>
>>37880732
Guess who rolls BEHIND us faggot?

>how far are you guys clearing to?

>to the 05 nothing

Going to the coast guard recruiter next week. How is life as a Coastie?
>>
>>37880822
Hey! How was the sign up process?
>>
>>37880830
12b here

>train like we're light
>conduct route clearence

What your saying is existentially true, but not universal

But i knew a bunch of guys who did MOUT operations, dismounted patrols, dismounted route clearance.

I knew some fucked up guys.

From my tame experience, i dont know if i was lucky or cheated
>>
>>37880830
Except their training is focused on doing construction, not closing with and destroying the enemy.

>>37880835
And combat engineers are behind the CIA, SAD, then CCT and Green Berets, then Rangers, Seals, Marsoc, all other special operations. Citing the Iraq war here, then armor goes in, then finally Infantry and engineers go in. Then the engineers build shit houses and bridges, clear mines while the infantry kicks in doors and kills sandniggers.

What's your point?
>>
>>37880690
Actually an okay idea. I was thinking USMC Reserves because dat amphibious stuff is cool to me compared to Natty Guard.
Coasty sounds cozy if I go active though. Was thinking USMC intel or navyfag stuff if my life shits itself so hard I no longer want to be home.
>>
>>37880855
It's awesome I love it! Going through electrician school rightnow and I gotta say.. You learn as much as you would at a similar electrician tech program. My roommate just went through electrician school down in Florida and it's practically the same.

>>37880857
The sign up process takes a while because you need to get a security clearance but it shouldn't really take more than about 4-6 months really. Just do well on the ASVAB and it should be smooth sailing.
>>
>>37880858
Honestly the only reason why I want to be a Combat Engineer more than Infantry is because being a CE teaches you valuable shit that will translate well into the "civilian" world, and because I thought they were basically a more "jack of all trades" type. Infantry doesn't really teach you anything that will help you in life. But I also want to play cowboy and knock down people's doors with guns. I'm having such a hard time choosing between the two.

>>37880866
>not closing with and destroying the enemy

That's what I honestly thought they did, along with construction. But if it's mostly a construction job then I don't know what I want to do.
>>
>>37880907
I was prescribed ADHD medicine 3 months ago, should I not bring it up?

How long do you think the process of joining and shipping to bootcamp will be?

I heard theres a push for non-rates and theres no guaranteed A-school?
>>
>>37880907
I was thinking of doing Marine Science Technician. Staying in WA won't hurt... Although the coastal states are all nice. What about MEPS?
>>
>>37880921
Yeah.. I wouldn't mention that... Military in general will try to find reasons to disqualify you from enlisting. And fastest time about 4 months because of the security clearance process. But it took me about 8 months to get to boot camp. And there's a huge shortage of non rates rightnow but there's also a need for EMs and MKs if you want to go an engineering rate. Those are critical rates that you can go to straight from boot rightnow
>>
>>37880936
MST is a chill rate. It's a long wait list though.. If you get a good unit out of boot camp it shouldn't be too bad though. I would've gone MST if it wasn't for the long wait list.. And MEPS sucks but it's definitely worth the awkward couple of days that you're there.

>>37880948
I was looking into Marine Enforcement or Marine Science Technician. Do you think going in as a non-rate would ship me off faster and waiting for those A-schools?
>>
>>37880961
Can you describe what your MEPS was like?
>>
>>37880920

I'm gonna come with a nonbiased opinion here, not being a 12B or an 11B.

I'm just gonna say, why would the Army need Combat Engineers to close with and destroy the enemy when they have the Infantry to do it. The Army is a well oiled Machine, and all jobs are very important in doing their own specific role. They are all equally vital, but they are not the same. Infantry is their to do what the infantry has done since the very first armies thousands of years ago. Their only purpose is to fight.
Combat engineers are there to build the FOB, clear mines, bridges, exactly what that video posted shows. These are all important things, and war would be a lot harder without them, but their specific purpose is NOT to destroy the enemy. If it was, they would be Infantry, not Engineers.
A lot of other MOS's, especially 19D and 12B like to say they are "pretty much the same as the infantry," but the truth of the matter is that they have never been in the Infantry, and everybody likes to imagine themselves as the bravest warriors.

Just think about this little question here: if you needed some guys to go on a patrol, or a raid, would you choose the Infantry to do it, or Combat Engineers. You would choose Infantry. Why? Because it's what they, and they alone, are meant to do.

I'm not taking sides, I'm just a JTAC in the ANG, but I thought I could try and clear things up for you.
And as for CE translating well to civie careers, do you really want to be in construction when you get out? If you are only doing it for career skills, go into the medical field or mechanic or something.
>>
>>37880969
I thought that only applies to those staying on boats and submarines
>>
>>37880320
>have a computer science degree
>joined the military over joining a private company that would have paid me much more
>>
>>37880639
Heard that place is beautiful. Had a friend recently move to Lejeune and he said it's alright.
>>
>>37880976
You don't get shipped off faster either way. But if you're really looking into ME or MST you should definitely go in as a non rate. After your initial tour out of boot, you will have a chill career in either of those rates. The only thing that can make your wait time less is if you have an associates or bachelors degree
>>
>>37880920
12B does not translate to anything.

Theres specific MOSes for construction, and its not 12B.
>>
>>37880979
Awkward... Very very awkward.. I came from Houston MEPS so it was a cesspool of stupid desu... A lot of them were immigrants joining the military to gain citizenship lmfao

All the fuckin time. Only thing stopping me is I own 30+ guns, several of which are family heirlooms, which I don't want to be confiscated by the FBI upon my return. Also, with the leftists in power, I feel I'll be branded a terrorist by my own government.
>>
>>37881042
Fair enough. If I owe my university some money, is that an instant disqualification?
>>
>>37881013
This is what I was wondering. I'm majoring in Accounting right now, but I'm somewhat looking at being in the military. If I commit to joining the military, should I even bother sticking to that major when I could be having an easier time studying gender studies or underwater basket weaving? I mean I'll be making the same money either way.

>>
>>37881070
If you want to travel the world, getting on a larger cutter are your best bets out of boot. Our ships sail everywhere around the world. I believe having a degree promotes you to E-3 out of boot which decreases your wait time for A school by several months so that's your best bet.
>>
>>37878445

>>
>>37881112
I'm looking at the paperwork that got sent to me this morning. It was asking if I had any debts in collections... Which I do.. So now I'm ind of hesitant to push through with the process since it might be a disqualifying factor.
>>
>>37881090
>>37881112
Exactly. The military has programs to help you pay off your debt. as long as your debt isn't currently in collections you should be fine.
>>
>>37881130
Just saw this post. I ran into the same problem I had to take out another loan just to get out of collections.. To enlist lol

Hey not that I'm an expert or anything, but I'm in NROTC with similar back problems. I do a lot of stretches and shit for it, still sucks. Honestly if you don't go Army or Marines you'll probably be ok. Rucks are shitty but they aren't a big factor in Air Force or Navy.
>>
>>37881088
yeah, I can see that. I kinda got nothing to lose though, and I felt more alive doing that stuff than I do at home. I'll finish school at least and then go fight again.

>>
>>37881408
Meh, you'd have better luck getting a good job if you do something computer/health care related in the military.

My brother was a fiber optics technician when he was in and now makes six figures working for AT&T.

I'm gonna be doing Data Network Administration and get a bunch of IT certs while I'm in

Let the grunts have their circle jerk, they'll need something to look back on while working the frier at Arby's
>>
>>37881448
Do Special Forces.
It's what we do in life that echos an eternity. Do you want to be an elite operator, or the two branches most ridiculed for being pussies.

It's better to try and fail than to not try at all.
>>
I don't get why people who want combat and people who want job qualifications are two different things.

Similar but different fucking stuff and motivation in the in the end.

>>
>>37881505
Oh, you meant Security Forces, you said SPECIAL Forces, as in Army Green Berets.

Security Forces is shit. I'm a TACP/JTAC in the Washington ANG. We aren't "elite" special operators, just combat arms.

but you get paid well
>>

>>
>>37881508
>implying the military gives you the GI bill with a snap of a finger
>>
>>37881547
Pararescue is Special Operation and a really cool job. They have a very challenging selection with a high attrition rate. You have to be a very very very gifted swimmer
>>
>>37881508
>Going to college

kek, a waste of time for 90% of people
>>
>>37881561
I know how to swim very well. Have been doing it since I was 5. Now I'm just trying to improve my overall fitness. What do you recommend I work on?
>>
>>37881571
>going as far as saying college is a waste of time, so don't use the fucking once and a life time benefit of literally free college

the fuck is the matter with you? I mean, if you don't want to go to college then that's fine. But don't try to discourage others from being grunts when they can use the GI bill
>>
>>37881587
More swimming. You aren't as good at swimming as you think you are.

Can you swim 50m underwater on one breath? You have to without breaking the surface even once in order to even be CONSIDERED to be able to attend selection.
My mate is going the Pararescue route and he swims for two hours every day. This is pretty typical for someone training for pararescue or CCT. Also you need to swim 500m in 7 minutes.

Other than that, it's the basic military shit, running, situps, pushups.
>>
>>37881616
why do you have to be a good swimmer when I didn't see the PJs rescuing people underwater at all while watching the show about them
>>
>>37881624
I don't fuckin know. Why do CCT have to be great swimmers? No idea. But a huge ass portion of their selection is violent and rigorous swimming. I've read in several places that PJ's do more swimming in their pipeline than Navy SEAL's.

You can watch a small preview of the selection here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ2-p8Iq4Bo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chWciBDYokc
>>
>>37881616
So just work on swimming and improve physical fitness?

Because of not having some infantile preoccupation with the media you experienced during your socialization and wanting more out of life. Using military service as a means to an end and not an end in itself.
Kill yourself.

I'm going to enlist in the Air Force in a couple of months. I'm spending the time before that studying as hard as I can for the ASVAB and other tests so I can hopefully get whatever AFSC I want. Everything that an RN learns in 2 years, you learn in 1.
