How do you deal with shit sleep, /fit/?

The past 5 nights or so, my sleep has been pretty inconsistent. Maybe 1 of those nights has been a full proper sleep session, while the others have been half sleeping (I'll drift off, then check my phone and it'll be a few hours later). And tonight, I've been unable to sleep at all. It's 4 am and my eyes feel heavy, but as far as tiredness, that's about it.

I know it'll affect my gainz sooner or later, but I'm not sure what to do. I haven't really been upping my caffeine intake lately. I thought it was food related (since the 4th of July weekend had a good amount of unhealthy foods that I don't regularly eat), but after switching to more of my normal diet, it hasn't gotten any better. I'm also not particularly stressed about some things, or at least I don't think I am.

Should I start popping benadryl or something? Should I let my doctor know?

look up sleep hygeine and go thru the list. it could be a huge variety of factors. besides the obvious eat healthy / exercise, try reducing your exposure to light before bed. get flux for your computer and phone, or don't use them at all. i know that if im in a room with fluorescent lighting before bed, i wont be able to sleep. your body thinks that the artificial light is the sun, so it blocks the release of melatonin, so you dont get tired like you should

I already do lower light reading for 20 minutes before bed after setting alarms for the next day. The light isn't that big of an issue

im not sure how sensitive your body is to light, but 20 minutes wouldnt be enough for me. i need a few hours buffer at least for quality sleep. people who go camping often end up on a better sleep schedule because it forces them away from artificial light.

other than that there's also temperature. humans sleep better in a slightly cool environment (68f).

are you taking naps? dont do that,

try stopping all stimulants / alcohol for a while.

DOesn't help that I sometimes work evening/day shifts and in order to get 8 hours I need to go to bed at 10 and wake up and 6 the next morning.

Nah. We just take some multivitamins. I don't live way up in the north though so I get actual sunlight during the winter. But there are several places that don't get sun at all.

dude has no idea what he is talking about. Normally we don't really take any vitamins for that. It'is often dark but since there is snow everywhere we also have a basic light level. It gets darker when it's cloudy but then it's also warmer. It feels pretty normal to me. It's harder in the summer when the sun is shining right into your face at midnight.

What time are you going to bed?

If you are up until 2am every night browsing 4chan and beating off to porn, i dont really want to hear complaints about bad sleep.

Start going to bed by 10pm and waking up at 6 like a normal person.

I go to sleep around 11 or 12 and wake up between 7 and 9. Though I'll be changing that soon to a little earlieras I'm going to have an 8 am class starting September.

But as I said, before bed I'm doing reading in low, warmer light, mot browsing 4chinz

I have been getting sleep problems as well. Just for almost no reason. I am now in these mini cycles of sleep. Where one day I sleep a fuckton, then the next day I sleep almost nothing because lol I dont know fucking stupid body. Then the next day I am tired as hell again, and then I sleep long again.

One of the most annoying things that keeps me up is the thought that I need to sleep, because I have something to do the next day. I dont know why but it stresses me the fuck out. Such a small and annoying thing, even if its somewhere at 12 o clock. I just cant fucking sleep knowing that I will not be able to sleep and then miss it. Making it a self fulfilling prophesy.

Not sure how I can get out of this. I am even using orange glasses to help me eliminate all the artificial blue lights, 2 hours before sleeping.
