i just dont understand why you need to change old traditional songs to fit current political attitudes. Its a song and it mentions "sons". Thats fine. Why is there a necessity to change it to be "more inclusive"? Im 100% fine with gender neutrality. But start it at this point forward and build it up. Dont go changing old things out of political correctness. I live in america and it feels like we are trying to erase certain parts of history instead of keeping them and learning from them.

I understand panic in regards to some traditions being overwritten I the name of "political correctness," but changing a handful of throwaway words in the anthem so that it's gender neutral doesn't really seem like a big deal to me. You're American so you might not understand, but there wasn't really any sort of stromg Canadian national identity until WW2ish, and even now it is not nearly as patriotism-focussed as the American identity. What identity we do have is pinned more on ideas of acceptance, pacifism and liberalism, rather than the more nationalism, symbolic, tradition oriented American identity.
I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, and I think we could both learn things from eachother, but I'm saying they're different. It is more Canadian to try to include everyone and amend inequalities than to keep relics and traditions completely pristine. Again, different, not trying to argue which is better or worse.
