I want to lose weight with cardio but I get nasty shin splints. I have no chance to let then heal because I need to walk for about 30mins every day which triggers it.

What should I do? Should I just eat at a huge deficit to make up for no cardio?

Swim? Do HIIT on an elliptical trainer? Cycle? Walk? There's lots of non or low impact cardio dude..
>>
Do other cardio than running, f.ex swimming, cycling

how does one become obese while having to legitimately walk 30m a day?

that's the real question here.

I'm not obese, I just have monster calves which pull too hard on my anterior shin muscles.

Stretch.
Run outside.

Worked for me.
I used to get fucked up shin splints from running like sanic on a treadmill.

Ice that shit.
Stretch well.

Check if you need shoe inserts. I stopped getting shin splints after I got my orthotics.

Shit advice. That's how you get stress fractures. You can't ignore tendons like you can muscles.

honestly, it's probably

pace
shoes
surface

slow down, run on blacktop (or a track if you can stomach the boredom) and probably get new shoes (guessing yours are old?)

big calves can be a problem, but usually only if you're running uphill, or not landing properly on your mid-foot (pace is an issue here, if you're doing too much sprinting, or landing on the balls of your feet, this'll cause the shin splints you're mentioning.)
