I've been lifting for a year and a half, and I've been tracking my macros for 313 days straight, yet made shit progress. Well, you might be right anon...
I moved around a lot. So I would spend 2-3 months in the gym running a strength routine, then move somewhere where I couldn't afford a gym just yet. So I had to resort to bodyweight and weighted bodyweight workouts.

The past 5 months I think was the longest I was consistent with gym and diet. But unfortunately in 3 days I ship off to Navy boot and I will most likely lose all of my gains.

I guess I just expect too much out of myself. I got this intense desire to be the best I can possibily be, and when I don't live up to my standard I fall into this dark, shit pit of self pity and numb feels.

Fugg I cut 50 lbs in a year but was feeling drained and weak as fuck so I started bulking despite everyone here telling me not to. I've gained back like 15 lbs in 8 weeks and I'm pretty sure it's like 99% fat but at least my lifts have gone up considerably.

I'm in the same position, did a ton of research and tried my best and for a long time just felt like I looked worse than people who were just starting out (I started from a chunky skinny fat, always envy people who were starting from a decent build).

Anyways my genes are fucking garbage and I have on and off deep depression spells but after like 5 fucking years of steady but shit lifts I'm finally looking pretty good. Even had a creepy fuck walk behind me the other day and whisper "nice body" in my ear (i was wearing a tight shirt), felt good idgaf.

Anyways my point is just keep going, at some point raw consistency will make up for the genetic failings (obviously not fully, I still don't think I'm aesthetic but realistically speaking I still look better than 95% of normies, even if i will never be the /fit/ ideal).

I'm a natty lifter and cut from 195lbs to 165 lbs over 4 months. Didn't a pound off the bar. Didn't lose a rep on max sets. I don't count macros or calories.
