Well, I know a bunch of people who are engineers here. So far, they seem to really enjoy it, and there's a bunch of oppurtunities for aspiring engineers here. However, UCR is more like a place to start getting into engineering but you should progress from there. Two of my engineering friends are moving their lab from UCR to San Diego, so they're making progress. On everything else, I like it here. Yes, the people here can be ghetto and dumb, but there's still a lot of faculty, programs, and professors that can help you a lot. The social scene here is alright, joining clubs is a must. I'm in a boxing club and a weightlifting club and I've made friends from that so unless you're full /r9k/ you'll be fine

Not sure what Engineering is like. Place has a great vibe and good/pretty campus. People are generally friendly "party" uni of macq/unsw/syd. Still feels fresh as a fifty-ish old uni and courses are good for the most part. Area is really nice. Would recommend.

I went there just before they finished the new athletics center (i.e. a long ass time ago). Very diverse campus. Huge both size and population so your experience with the student body is entirely dependent on what you expose yourself to, as is the case with most huge universities.
It could be a bit different since I went. I mean I went pre-Tumblrina/SJW explosion. Most non-University people didn't even have broadband unless you were in California.
