If you bulk up first, you will get depressed because your gains will be covered in fat.

If you lose weight first, you will be impressed at the change and feel good that you're 'slim'. You can still do weights, but you wouldn't be eating enough to grow bigger.

When you get slim and toned, start planning your bulk.

I am not OP but I have been meaning to ask a question on this board and did not want to make my own thread. So if you lift while cutting you will not gain much muscle or is it possible to still gain some muscle mass? I have been tracking what I eat very diligently and have been doing a lot of cardio and lifting. I use my fitnesspal and it tells me to eat 1500 calories per day to lose 2 pounds per week. I put that I am sedentary but I actually walk a lot on campus and I ride my bike around 2 hours per day and I never enter the cardio because then it tells me to eat more. Anyway like I said it tells me to eat 1500 but most days I try to stay around 1200-1300 and I pretty much eat the same stuff every day and it is all simple and I weigh everything so I feel like I am pretty accurate. I have been losing the 2 pounds per week that it says, sometimes like 3 pounds, but like I said I also do cardio and lift so shouldn't I be losing weight faster since I do not enter the cardio or lifting and it tells me I will lose 2 pounds doing nothing and eating 1500 calories.

I just wanted to post a photo of me related and get /fit/ comments on where to start first, as in, diet, cardio, lifting, what first? Or all at all?

Any sort of physical exercise will be good, whether its lifting weights or doing cardio.

If your goal is to get in shape (lose weight) cut some calories and do cardio or even start lifting. Do compound movements instead of isolation exercises.

OP - work up your TDEE, eat at a deficit until you're below 15% bodyfat.

While doing this, for the rest of your life: alternate cardio days with weightlifting days.

Fix your macros so you're shooting for 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Once below 15% bodyfat, you can start overfeeding on lifting days.

But yeah you have basically no muscle mass. So start lifting and figure out your caloric needs.
