When does the inevitable decline start?

I like to think as myself as someone who has only gotten better with age. I'm 28 and looking back at pictures of me when I was 23 it's quite shocking. We're 4 months into 2016 and I've already smashed my entire 2015 PRs for both 5K and 10K. I'm faster, stronger, and more dedicated than I've ever been in my life.

I plan on progressing for the foreseeable future but at some point father time is going to show up and it will be an uphill battle that I'll continue to fight.
>>

I started lifting at 23

I'm 29 now and I can already feel my strenght decreasing slowly over time.

>tfw regressive under load instead of progressive overload

I've tried eating more and improving routine but i just gain fat and the strenght keeps slowly going down.

I'm starting see now what all the 30-40 year olds talk about when they say we have it good in our 20s
>>
I think I might be immortal or a vampire, I haven't aged a day since I was 16 and I'm 28 now
>>
>>36938334
25 is the average for males.
Hairline (widows peak or balding) is a general first sign and it's hard to find a man in his twenties without a widows peak.
Next noticeable thing is longer to recover from general stress.
Eventual injury that puts you out of your workout zone for a few months.
You may recover, but it's never 100% and you realize you remember being 18 and breaking a foot and just laughing it off like it was nothing.
>>
>>36938364
budd, you know you just have to get on the gain train like the rest of us. Shit you are only fucking 29. You don't see anything going until you hit your 30's. I'm 32 and still making gains.
>>

It might be mostly genetic.

I won the lottery on this cause my grandpa didn't feel like breaking down till he was 80. Even then he died the next year.

My dad is still tough as shit too. He's 63, has huge fucking muscles, and my friends and most people assume he's 35. He still bangs 40yo chick's from time to time.

I'm 22 now and started lifting a while back and feel like goddamn Hercules. I gain muscle pretty goddamn fast after working out everyday and the fat just falls off. And most people assume I'm like 16.

>>
>>36938387

25 sounds about right in regards to absolute peak condition.

In competitive track I've heard 24 being thrown around as the optimal age for running your fastest mile. You can certainly get better in events that are longer than that as you age however. Many athletes will move up in events as they get older as they lack the fine tuned speed to remain competitive at events like the 800M or mile and try their hand at 5K, 10K and even marathon.
>>
>>36938334
Long distance runners often peak in their early thirties, and there are men in special operations in the military right up until they turn 55.

Just keep training and see how it goes, but don't sell yourself short at any age.
>>
>>36942243
In football (soccer). 26 is considered the peak for strikers.

It's been a while since I've followed running closely, but from a quick wikipedia page look up it appears he followed the format I listed of moving up to longer events. People can marathon competitively well into their 30's. Props to him.
>>
>>36942328
one hit wonder and an absolute exception to the rule. The average striker isn't a midget pumped full of growth hormone.
>>
Unless you're close to 50, it's all about the amount of training you've done.

But generally, people never workout. Do they slowly creep on the fat.

And without any muscle mass, ANY little amount of fat really shows.

Hop on test, a sensible dose that is, and enjoy not losing your strength or energy.

You absoultely must spend a lot more time stretching, self-massaging and warming-up as you age though. Test can only help with strength and mood. Joints pain and compounded fatigue has to be managed actively.
>>
The ageing process is a mental state for the majority of the time. My step-dad divorced my mom when he was a muscular 42 year old. 2 years later the strength is declining, his skin looks gaunt, and his hair, once mousey brown, is completely silver. Hell, just look at that before and after pic of Obama, in 8 years of being president he's aged about 20.

I heard the music before. Never actually looked up who they actually were.

Anyway, I'm 31. As for aging, there are a ton of factors involved. I think race is one of the biggest ones. Ever see a black man age compared to a white man? Ernie Hudson from Ghostbusters has aged a lot slower than Dan Akroyd or Bill Murray. For me, I'm Hispanic and I still feel like I'm in my early 20's whereas everyone my age is gaining weight, losing hair, and generally slowing down. The only other person I know who isn't feeling crippling age is this half Asian guy I know. Not sure if Asians age slow as well, or is it because he's half white, but seeing how badly his parents aged there must be something about being mixed that slows aging.

I saw this old man in my gym's locker room.
He was getting changed and I happened to have looked his way.

That was a straight up grandad women would like to fuck. He was still muscular and had a good 6 pack.

I was truly inspired seeing his body looking so good at that age.

Well he did sort of contribute to popularizing that style, so it's really not a big surprise that while it may no longer be trendy, he continues to sport it, especially considering the fact that he's basically no longer in the public eye. Men typically freeze their style at the time in their life when they were most successful.

Thinking about this is quite useless and futile. Just try and be the best you can be at any age. If you start lifting at 35, do the best you can and you will start to look and feel better then you would if you never started. Don't waste your life thinking about what you could have been. Focus on what you can achieve. Every step you made let you to becone the person you are now. Where will your next step lead you?

If you don't suffer any major injuries between the ages of 28-40 your strength won't start declining until you are 40, possibly even 45 if you do everything perfectly. I mean fuck, my grandmother is 71 and doesn't take any kind of medication. She just gets in 4-8 hours of cardio a week and eats a very healthy diet.

If you really take care of your body, your body will take care of you. Yes your testosterone levels start dropping in your 20's, but it shouldn't really be a problem for your health, if you lead a healthy lifestyle. If you're really bothered by it, then just start juicing and facing all of the health risks associated with it.

there is mixed research. One that shows it is good for you and one that shows it is bad for you. Not the one you responded to but I tend to avoid caffeine because I want my energy levels to come from my joy for life. Look at a child. You think he needs coffee? NO. He is just high off life. That is how you should be.

I'm thinking of giving up coffee again (only lasted a couple months last time) but I'm not looking forward to that severe 3 day headache again.
Is giving it up and only drinking water really worth it? How long does it take to feel completely normal again.
I only get like two months without it then get suckered in by nostalgia and thinking I can moderately do the one morning mug a day.

You're really out of touch. Pop punk had a big revival in the 90s and early 2000s. Green day, sum41, Blink182, the offspring, etc. I personally don't have an interest in it, but there was no escaping it for a while. It dominated MTV airtime, radio play. You had to have heard of them.
>>
>>36945773

So why are you telling people that punk wasn't popular in the 90s? You admit you don't know shit (only after it was amply revealed) so shut the fuck up.

Not everyone has to get fat or dress in dockers. Go complain to everyone in rock if you got a problem. Would anyone tell Keith Richards or Prince to dress more like a sears catalogue model? People view rock stars as being larger than life entertainers. Of course their not going to dress like your neighbour mowing the lawn on a Sunday. Get real.

Lack of stress, healthy diet, moderate exercise, skin care. Feels good that my family, despite not taking care of themselves at all and even smoking and being fat, look young for their age. If I take care of my body I might accidentally reverse aging. Based leprechaun genetics.

>>36946339

Not too much cardio. Those jogging bunnies look like beef jerky. Skincare and either lifting or bodyweights plus yoga or stretching is way more important.

>sunscreen

red raspberry seed oil my man. 30 spf AND moisturizes. I wear moisturizer day and night. Skin is so soft it's unreal. Unfortunately I went /out/ without muh 'screen a few days ago and now I have a light sunburn. Feel bad about it...been putting good stuff on it. I wear long sleeves all summer to avoid getting burns, and I just bought a sun hat to help further. Just got new snail repair gel from korea. Made with snail snot. Apparently good shit. I mean, do you see asians aging like shit? Nope. Anyway I highly recommend oils. I use rice bran oil, argan oil, and vitamin e oil regularly, plus red raspberry seed oil.

Also a LOT of skin sag is due to weight gain and loss, and for women, bone loss is due to not exercising and having kids. If you don't shit out kids your shit doesn't get fucked, and if you exercise at all you're better than 90% of the population. If you're gonna lose weight, do so slowly.

There's a pic around here of two 70 year old women. One lifts and one doesn't. Night and day, the lifter looks like 45 and the nonlifter looks like saggy, wrinkled shit.

And don't neglect body moisturizer, especially your neck and underneath your chin.

you basically lose 10% a year starting 5 or so years before you finally go but as long as you have a buffer you'll still be /fit/ until a few months before the end, and even then you'll still be active until the final weeks
>>
>>36951503
This. The problem with the hedonistic lifestyle is that it only considers 10 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE. People who spend their 20's doing drugs and drinking alcohol deteriorate the other half of their lives. If you live to be 100, you basically set 70% of your life to be shit.

you can behave hedonistically (this isn't a word but it should be) without behaving erratically/destructively/in excess, you just need a variety of moderately bad-for-you things and to balance them all out. also, things that are good for you can be very pleasant as well, like liftan.

>being this retarded
Receding hairline or a high widows peak starts soon after a boy reaches complete adulthood.
It's a natural process that happens in nearly every male on the planet.
It's caused by a genetic mutation that signals the cells in your scalp to stop creating new hair post puberty.
It's sister mutation is crown balding, which once again is caused by a hormonal signal from your body to stop producing hair.

These are the same signals that also start
>chest hair growth
>butt hair
>back hair
>stomach hair
Most people didn't just wake up at 16 and have full chest hair, it slowly started to grow in as you reached your twenties and than thickens out.
These are signals that you are about to reach the decline.

WHO IS THIS HOTTIE THOTTIE

there are steps you can take in order to not age.

don't drink too much, don't smoke, eat a good diet, sleep well, drink plenty, keep your skin healthy (moisturizer and sunscreen daily even if you live in fucking finland or some other sunless tundra) and exercise. all this is easy.

a lot of you will age very well due to your large amounts of exercise, clean diets, water intake and necessity to avoid alcohol.

something else that helps immeasureably is taking care of your posture. old people's muscles atrophy; that combined with sitting down for most of the day results in them stooping over and maintaining good posture can make old people look like a decade younger.

and finally, very small doses of HGH can make older people look youthful as fuck. if you want proof look at stallone's face, he used to look like an old italian kike, now he almost looks fresh out of rocky 4 again.

most peple age like shit because they live like shit, eating, drinking and sitting down. don't do this

Yes, bad things in moderation are fine such as weed and beer but why do it? I know this comment is going to stir up a lot of negative comments but think about it. Why ruin your progress in life? I am at the point now where I would rather eat a salad than a burger because I know the salad will make me feel healthier, look better, focus longer, feel more satisfied, and make me feel awesome. Eating the burger might taste good but I know it will lead me to being fatter, unhealthier, feeling sluggish, and feeling guilty. This leads into a downward spiral where you begin to feel worse and worse. It's like they say, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Those who are fit and healthy are more likely to be MORE fit and healthy while those who are obese are MORE likely to be fatter the next time you see them. I know people say weed isn't a gateway drug but in my experience (i first smoked in 10th grade then did x, molly, coke, mushroom, acid, dmt, ketamine, and xanax in college) and all my other friends who smoked weed this is NOT the case. Weed is a gateway drug. It puts you in situations where you want to try crazier drugs because you are surrounded by people who do. Find me a person who has done x, molly, or coke but NEVER smoked weed. Let the stoner comments come.
