How long did it for you to make it? Started lifting seriously for once. All my lifts are going up but I still look shit. Doing SL 5x5

I did SL too and I actually saw some results within three months. For one I started from 6'0" 150 eating <2000 calories a day, and ended up at 170 after eating ~2400 calories a day, obviously it was mostly fat and water weight but I desperately needed it anyway and I looked much better. Also, I got some lats and traps, before I had zero development so any mass in those areas was immediately noticeable. Leg definition and size came soon after as well, again, nothing major, but way better than the saggy frail mess it was.

6 years to get to where I am. I've had my ups and downs in looks and strength. The first time I looked good and was reasonably strong was after about 14 months of exercise, the first 4 being all bodyweight at home, then 10 months of hitting the gym hard, doing plenty of cardio and eating pretty good.
I also looked really good for a while by lifting really fucking hard, eating a ton of food and making sure that I was getting plenty of protein in that ton of food. I wasn't shredded, but I was huge, and I wasn't fat as fatass.
After my last term of grad school my physique was fucked, too many late nights, not enough lifting, no cardio, too much beer and caffeine. I went from looking almost totally chubby DYEL to being the most shredded I've ever been. It took about 8 months. My background of several years of fitness probably contributed to the speed at which I "made it" though.
