>>36844803
Yeah it's been amazing man, the Netherlands is a great place to study. I made great friends with two Canadian exchange students and they both loved spending time in Europe.
And yeah people lift here, although you may not like the number of refugees that go to the gyms
>>36845075
meh, we have a lot of refugees here too.
Thats good to hear, planning on moving over in august.
How much you spend a month anon? For like rent, food, insurance and phone?
I am estimating about 900 euro
I just got out of the Army and starting college pretty soon. Tuition, expenses all covered and I'll be racking in about 36k a year while I'm studying.
I'll be earning more money just for going to school than while I was active duty, it's pretty crazy.
>>36845104
Rent: 475 per month, I dont know about Maastricht but this is quite a high price relative to the other deals you could get.
Food and spending money: 350 per month. This is quite a tight budget but Im fine if I spend my money generally wisely.
Phone: 5 euro per month for the fee on a Lebara sim card, is just 500mb of data per month, I dont use calls/texts.
Anyone?
>>36845165
Sounds about the same.
What I am planning to spend:
Rent: 450 /month
Groceries: 200 /month
Phone 30 /month (just SIM)
Health insurance 100 /month
Spending money 200 /month
I have only been to the netherlands once, so I am planning to travel a bit and generally be more lax with spending money on things that arent available in Canada.
Anything I should know about living there?
>>36845179
You go to the school we all party at
>>36845300
Sounds good. And yes I agree, the Netherlands is actually quite a great place to travel, lots of towns and cities are quite distinct from each other. One town up north for example has no roads, and so everyone travels by boat along the canal to get to work etc.
As for things you should know? A bike is a necessity, as well as learning basic Dutch on Duolingo - It wont take long before you are able to navigate grocery stores easily and read basic dutch.
Generally I also recommend absorbing as much of the culture as possible, events like Carnaval and Koningsdag are amazing, as the Dutch people love to party.
As for the Dutch people, they are usually very warm to you, as long as you are tolerant and not disrespectful.
>>36845445
Cool, Yea I have already started practicing on Duolingo.
Thanks for your insight anon. This has been pretty cool!

Hows the oly lifting club I'm thinking about joining that?
When does the gym get busy?
All I wanna do is CnJ and Snatch at this point and learn how to do it right
How Kinesiology majors how hard are the classes familia?
>>36848553
It's a really nice gym.
>>36849220
If you want to OLY, you need to use the ARC. The platforms are almost always busy, but the wait is usually short. They're looking at adding more.
No idea about the OLY club. There's a fair number of people who OLY fairly seriously at all hours of the day, and almost all of them are seriously bros. If you get here and chat them up, they'll steer you straight.
Busiest times are 6-8 a (free parking, morning rush. If you aren't there at 5:45, you'll have to wait for equipment in the weight room)
and 3-7p
midmorning 8-11, early afternoon 1-3, and late night 8p+ are really not busy.
I have no idea what Kinesiology is like. There's a lot of cripples around. I don't know if that's related. I'm an engineer, so I automatically ignore everybody else and have an inflated sense of superiority.
Is the Fordham gym as bad as people on here say it is? I'm scared.
Also does anyone know any good and or cheap gyms in the PDX area?
>>36842517

>>36849404
If you're an undergrad, stick to the undergrad bars and frat houses right next to campus. Lots of thirsty grills for undergrads. if you like loud campus bars, there's several and you can get your freak on. It is a party school, after all.
No barcades that I know of.
Downtown Champaign during the summer is awesome for drinking with outdoor seating and really good beer just an easy walk/bus from campus, but it tends to attract grad students.
best bars for beer:
Blind Pig (there's two, both are the same)
Quality
There's a few Townie bars that you will probably be super out-of-place at if you're a traditional student, but if you're older, you can fit in if you're pretty country. Locals gotta get housed too.
Urbana is significantly quieter.
>>36844844
What a comfy looking university.
Also graduating in a few weeks- time to suck to long dick of corporate America I guess.

maybe i'll tailgate with them during the footbawl games since Lovie Smith is coaching so i'm hyped for that. (Not that much of a football fan just recognize his name cause of the bears) and my cousin i think is in one but idk which one exactly.

>>36850654
If you are foreign, scholarships of any sort are very rare. 33 ACT is pretty much garbage, and GPA depends on the reputation and rigor of your school, which, if you are from outside the country, will probably be unknown to scholarship committees.
Speaking from experience, I only know one person who got a full ride to BU and he had a 2350 on the SAT and represented his country in a world level debating competition. GPA was spotless as well, and I'm sure they liked that he did standardized A Levels since they recognize the qualification.
If you want money, expect that level of competition, even to B-tier schools.
If you are domestic, it is much, much easier. Sometimes even trivial.
>>36849137
If you lift often, you'd want to stay next to the ARC, which is in the southwest of campus. It's bigger than CRCE and has more squat racks (CRCE only has one), etc so you don't have to wait for faggots to finish.
>>36849961

I'm domestic and my current uni's act average is 26. I don't understand why tf uni costs so much at a public school. I got accepted to B+ tier Schools like duke Vanderbilt but they were 50 and 60k a year each fuck that. I should've dropped out desu, no amount of education is worth 60k in loans.
>>36851362
>domestic
Bro, you can literally get a bajillion scholarships and funding if you just bothered to apply for them. And no, you don't even need to be smart or even have a good GPA.
If you go in-state, it gets even cheaper than that. In-state tuition at UT Austin and GT (Zell-miller whatever) makes it pocket change for in-staters.
>current uni's act average is 26
Wow you must go to a university filled with mouth breathers. Less competition makes getting scholarships even easier.
>no amount of education is worth 60k in loans.
Depends on what you're majoring and where you go to school. Name brand is used to seperate the wheat from the chaff since everyone and their dog goes to college these days no matter how stupid, but a meme major like French Lesbian poetry studies will crush even a good name brand.
Where's my weight club bros at?
>>36851458
Unless you are at Berkeley, UCLA, or UMich the average act will be around 26-28, what are you on about anon? Even with instate tuition good state schools are 30k+ a year before the frugal scholarships they *may* give out.
>>36851458
I'm in state and it costs 120k for 4 years. I only got 60k for all 4 years in scholarships, applied to pretty much everything that I found. None of the unis in my state give full rides unless you are dirt poor or going to a community college. I asked around campus and people are pretty much satisfied with having 80-120k in debt somehow.
I just got accepted into St. Mary's for law school, how's their gym?
>>36851502
In-state at UT Austin and GT are around $9000, and they're pretty good (at least for engineering).
For example, at GT there's a really easy scholarship to get that covers full tuition called Zell Miller which you only need 26 ACT to qualify or something. To keep it you just need to get above 3.3 GPA every semester and be in-state.
I have a few friends there who are international, pay out the ass, and have 4.0 GPAs so far. They get pissed whenever they see their domestic counterparts bitching about losing their scholarship by dropping below 3.3.
I'm sure similar opportunities exist in your school, wherever you may be. Pay attention to the mail that scholarship committees give out because they're always looking for people to give money. Yes, even in Cucknifornia.
What school costs you 120k in-state? What the fuck?
>>36850359
yeah, it does
i live downtown so i go to a gym here, but if the coop wasn't actual shit i'd much rather work out on campus
gonna use the aquatic centre this summer tho before the new one is finished and they start charging us to swim
>>36851636
It's a state school that's 30k a year, 56k for OOS. Almost every public 4 year in my state is between 20-32k a year. Tuition is only 12k but they rape you with fees and mandatory dorm housing for freshman and sophomores. This shouldn't be legal desu. I might join the military to get a chunk of this debt taken care of, not many other options left. I try to work out and browse here just to forget about the money it's costing me.
>>36851734
I'm from the US but go to school in Canada
People's jaws drop when I mention how much in-state tuition is compared to my international tuition. I think after all of my fees, I paid about $15k to the school for the full year + one summer class.
>UBC's int'l tuition is going up 50% for new incoming students
>still going to be cheaper for the babbys than my state's school that is lower quality
