I know /fit/izens do it, well.....some /fit/izens anyway. But it's amazing that you pretty much never see anyone deadlifting. It has to be less than 1% who actually do it. Yet, the deadlift is the BEST exercise for building mass.
>>
it's a shitty, meme exercise and you fell for it
>>
>>36826695

Deadlifting is hard and most people are afraid of hurting their backs (or are uninformed enough to do exactly that).

Given how unnecessary it is for gaining mass, its not surprising it doesn't get used much.
>>
99% of people dont give a fuck about lifting and just want to be 'tone.' deadlifts are going to give them big biceps and washboard abs
>>
I see people deadlift at my gym, but no one deadlifts heavy, or even squats really heavy for that matter. Most I've seen is 140kg so far, though I've only been going to this one for 4 months now.

I see big guys squatting and deadlifting usually around 100, they are pretty big though and often do those lifts along with 1-2 other things in a single set.

you don't need to lift particularly heavy weights to be big and aesthitic imo.
>>
>>36826706
No it's the best exercise for putting on mass. You use around 60% of all the muscles in your body when deadlifting.
>>
>>36826695
because deadlifts are good only for strength gains and people who only want an aesthetic appearance dont give a fuck about functional strength, especially when deadlifts are so dangerous for your spine and joints.you can do some hyperextensions and still get a bulky lower back.leg curls will give you the same hamstrings deadlifts will.there is no point deadlifting if you dont care about functional strength.
>>
>>36826695
Eh, it's good if you're natty, if you're on gear it doesn't matter. And the thing is, no natty can ever truly look big or shredded compared to roiders, so the only reason to deadlift is if you're a life-time natty or a strength lifter.

I always wanted people to fear me and respect me. Srs. I used to think money would give me that but not even close. I've never felt more powerful and feared when deadlifting in a commercial gym and entire gym including trainers stare.
Makes me feel powerful; like a fuking Emperor or King. True power. The thing with lifting is that you can be stronger than people who have more money as well. They cannot buy your strength. That is why I am addicted to lifting; because I like it when people fear and are intimidated by me. I've been in search of this feel all my life and finally found it in lifting. Srs. Making money is not as rewarding; people still don't fear you. You just buy more useless shiet but deadlifting heavy weight. People truly fear you.
>>
>>36826724

Whether or not you use a given muscle in a lift is not, by itself, a particularly good indicator if it being great for mass. Especially not with the deadlift.
>>
>>36826724
you use 80% of the muscles in your body for pushups.so what?
swimming uses like,95%?

I love deads but I huff and puff and prance around for like 10 mins before my last set, I feel like a dick. Something about deads that makes me feel the need to psych up unlike all my other lifts
>>

Some people can (and it made Lamar Gant pound-for-pound the greatest deadlifter ever). Others can't. Depends on the individual.

The big dudes at your gym sound like drug users. Because squatting 100kg is pitiful and nobody can get away with training like shit and getting good results without drugs.

this dude doesn't lift heavy and he is enormous.

yes you won't get competitively big without lifting heavy, but you can still put size on.
>>

And of course, any examples given of powerlifters who look big will automatically be dismissed as being on the juice.
>>

Nah, I've got an open mind. Go ahead, post em.
>>
>>36826695
I think it's just they're uninformed.
Had an old timer who I respected at the gym see me doing shrimp squats to stretch and warm up. He said he was impressed with my balance and that if he tried it he'd fall over. Asked why I was doing them. Told him to warm up and stretch for deadlifts.
"Oh, yeah I don't do those."
"Why is that?"
"Well they're bad for your back."
>>
>>36826809
That's because every top level powerlifter is juiced, even in IPF. Just like every elite oly weightlifter is juiced
>>
Deadlifts are a powerlifting exercise. They're great for strength gains and also improve grip strength quite well, but they're absolutely not necessary from a bodybuilding perspective.

I do the same. 2 or 3 warmup sets before 1 x 6 on a heavy last set. Stand there for a good 5-10mins making sure I'm up for it so I don't take a trip to Snap City, where the lifts are weak and the forms are shitty.

Stop describing the squat, faggot.
>>
>>36827288
The squat is king, retard.

Squatting (or any basic lift for that matter), causes your body to cause stress. In turn your body has a RESPONSE SYSTEM to overcome that stress. One of the byproducts of this stress is your body responding and producing more testosterone. So essentially the “Bang for your buck exercises” Such as Squatting, Deadlifting, Chin Ups, cause a hormonal response in your body, and in turn it produces MORE TESTOSTERONE! Hence MORE MUSCLE.

So if you are not squatting or not hitting the big muscles, your body has no reason to respond, doing bicep curls in the squat rack (and if I see you do this I will choke you out), isn’t causing enough STRESS for you to adapt.

But IF you stopped doing arm curls and started squatting, YOUR ARMS GROW WITHOUT EVEN TRAINING THEM!

Not a bad deal hey!

Squat is an overrated exercise primarily for women. No one gives a fuck about leg mass. DL is king for strength.
>>
Deadlifts are great
That posterior chain activation, that grip work
Makes me feel alpha as fuck even though I can only pull 3.5 plates

deadlift and low bar squat are basically the same exercise. Only difference is dl works grip and forearms

I go to one of the really commercial gyms in my area, and I actually saw 4 people deadlifting today, plus 2 bros teaching a qt how to do it.

Is it...is it slowly coming back into fashion?
>>
People at my university gym deadlift and squat all the time, the three deadlift platforms and four squat racks are almost always full. Even if you go when they open at 6:30, there's very rarely more than one open rack

It's cool, but I wish I didn't have to wait so often
>>
>>36826695
Half the people at my gym Deadlift. It's pretty great. My best is 525lbs, the best I've seen in my gym is 650lbs. However a previous Raw Record Holder for deadlift like 30 years ago did 720lbs. He trains a few guys, has some great tips.

Even if everyone in the gym was deadlifting, it'd still be underrated

No, but Arnie was just a bodybuilder.
