I used to weigh 230 (I was fat, obviously, but I was focusing totally on strength) and I was benching 405 for 3. So if people ask me what my max bench was I tell them that, and explain the context (ie I was fat but strong) and they STILL say they used to bench more. More than 405. It's like they have no concept of what it's like to lift weights at all.
I mean, I weigh 175 now and bench 245 for reps, which is fine as a bodybuilder, and yeah it's conceivable that Normie looking people could have benched more than that in the past, but not more than fucking 405.

That's why the word "toned" is annoying. It shows complete ignorance of how the body works, and how people think they can get "ripped" by eating kale, doings a hundred push ups, and doing a juice cleanse to "burn belly fat".

What they're saying is that they want the muscles to be active without increasing in size. It's more like a "pump" than a flex, filling the muscle up with glycogen maybe and strengthening the nerve activation.

Not gonna reply to all of you. But I want to give my opinion on the whole subject.

It makes more sense to eat protein PRE-WORKOUT since even whey protein on an empty stomach will take at least an hour to spike blood AAs.

The "anabolic window" is real. Sortof. Training increases both protein synth. and protein breakdown. Muscles become sensitized to uptake amino acids after lifting, and also glucose (insulin sensitivity). Carbs help reduce protein breakdown, protein helps increase protein synth./let it reach it's max potential.

But the idea of "you gotta snort a line of whey protein post W.O. or else you piss out all your gains!!" is a meme.

It makes most sense to eat an actual meal consisting of protein/carb/fat a bit before working out (an hour or so), and have some carbs and protein after too.

Just eating around working out (putting most of your calories around working out) is important. Realize training sensitizes muscles to amino acids (and glucose) for hours, even days after. It's not something that lasts for 20 minutes. But it also decreases with time. That's why it's reccomended to eat more carb before working out, and eat more protein after working out (and more protein earlier in the day the day after lifting, more carbs towards the evening).
