thanks for your blog update OP

Op here, Forgot to ask for thoughts on why this is. Thanks any advice please.
>>
>>36775881
Yes. but now can you offer some advice??
>>
Could be getting shin splints. They're cunts of things to have.

Rest them is the biggest thing. Take breaks, otherwise they'll get worse and worse and have a chance of developing into a stress fracture, which is just as nasty as it sounds.

Get new shoes or insoles. I shelled out $150 from some specialist shoe store rather than the usual $20 bargain brand I normally buy, along with $30 insoles from some chemist, and I saw and felt improvement within a few days. Running was smoother and while the pain didn't disappear straight away, it didn't come back for a long time.

Calf raises. A major cause of shin splints is your calf muscle giving up and failing to correctly support your shin when you run. The muscle fails and so transfers the impact of running directly to the shin bone. Strengthening the calf muscle helps prevent the failure which leads to the splints.

Take my advice or leave it, I'm not your mother. Your mileage may vary, and no one cure fits all. Except rest - that's the surefire way to get them to go away, but that doesn't fix the problem, it just removes the symptom.

Whatever you do DO NOT GO TO A DOCTOR.
I repeat , DO NOT get it checked by a proffessional.
Asking random strangers on the internet is just fine
>>
>>36775886
no thoughts on this, thanks OP
>>

doctors are expensive :(
>>
>>36775876
do some lacrosse ball work on your legs after each run. helps me tremendously.
>>
>>36775973

From NZ it's cheap here but I'm a student and need every dollar for food
>>
>>36776016
canada represent! you can see the same doctor who works with the oilers and eskimos for free. helped me out a ton.
>>
>>36776081
How to I apply for candian?? It's like 10 bucks per visit here in NZ (if student)
>>
>>36776081
>>36776088
nah I'm from Germany
just paint your face brown and throw away your passport, we'll get you in
>>
>>36776088
the only thing they make you pay for in canada is a doctor's note, but you only need that if you work a shit job where the manager doesnt trust that you're sick. its like $15 and they do it more as a deterrent because its a fucking waste of doctors time to tell your boss that you have a cold.

OP this is what happened.

You never ran
and then you did too much at once
running contrary to popular belief is very stressing on your joints and tendons
hence you sort of fucked your shit up

Start slow, alternating walking and running.
when you feel no stress start running slowly.

>>36776016
You should go to a sport physician, regular doctors have no idea about sports related trauma
>>
>>36776109
this is superb advice. if you have no experience running then you need to take it slow. i have a shitload of experience and then got lazy and spent years out of shape. i managed to get back on the road and do 6km for a few days in a row and wound up with a mess of sore tendons, even though i thought i knew what i was doing.
>>
> be Australian
> go to doctor
> 'Oh yeah the only one in your town is a private practice so it's $75 for your initial visit, but you get half back on Medicare'

$35 was an expensive visit to be told 'Take this free sample of cream, and take painkillers an hour before working out'
>>
>>36776132
>Take painkillers before working out
>unknowingly pull calf while running
>continue running, tear tendon
>Continue running, rupture calf
>continue running, calf splits like a zipper, bursts out of skin
> continue running pelvis explodes
> continue running bum falls off
I don't agree with taking painkillers before a workout for these reasons.
>>
>>36776165
It's mostly as a band aid to see if my elbow trouble can be fixed by anti-inflammatories (the painkillers are also that). Looking like Olecranon Bursitis, which according to the doc is a whole lot of not fun at all.

I have been running for a year now, now I am almost beyond the amateur level.

With injuries you have to think like this:

If a pain stays on one spot for more than a couple of days. You should treat it seriously and look it up at a pro, or rest a bit more.

Other than that pain usually doesnt matter. Pain moves all across my legs, constantly shifting, finding new area's that are either untrained, or just strained too much for that day or something.

This is assuming that you have proper rest days and know what your actual, physical (not mental) limits are.
>>
>>36775876
wait 1-2 weeks, then try walking longer distance or short jogs, if the pain remains, wait another 1-2 weeks.
depending on your age, your body heals faster at a younger age.

t. 5 years of running, some injuries require weeks of healing, some go away in a few days.
