Why are you even fucking here? The difference between doing a rpe9-10 quarter squat and a real squat is huge. When you rpe10 a quater squat you are putting far more weight on your body than your joins can handle. When you rpe10 a normal squat it doesnt tax your joints and ligaments as much because your squatting weight your body can actually handle

For the classics I do some random drills with the bar, whatever I feel like doing that session, then skip up to 50% and hang there for a bit until I feel ready to go, then it's working weight.

Squats I just build up to the working weight, from 10 reps down to whatever is called for the day, dropping reps as the weight goes up. So if I was doing (150/3)5 for my top sets I would probably warm-up like so: 20/10; (60/8)2; 100/6; 120/3; 135/3.

Maybe try that, see if it feels alright. The point of warming up is to get into the groove of the movement, so don't rush and take the time to focus on your balance, speed, etc.

I had it similar, lost it when I was 18 finally, and since then, even if I get back to that weight, I look nowhere near as fat as before. Is it worth continuing to weightlifting if I don't intend on competing? I originally got into this as a noob because I saw some big guys moving heavy ass weight at my local dungeon and I thought it looked fun as hell.

I've been doing weightlifting for about 8 months now and I've made some nice gains, my form is acceptable though far from perfect, and my numbers are 83/100 at 75 be so not competitive but decent I think. The problem is that I usually do those 5 day/wk cycles on Catalyst and honestly they get exhausting after the first couple of weeks because they are generally tailored for people looking to seriously compete in weightlifting and that's just not me. My big priorities for this sport are fun and aesthetics, I don't care much for the competitive aspect of it and I'd like to knock my program down to 3 or 4 days max and still make form/strength/aesthetica gains if possible. Can that even happen?

tldr: is there any point to doing weightlifting non competitively but for fun, gains, and aesthetics or should I just go full bro and do boring bodybuilding?

keep in mind you probably don't have the workload to do higher volume 5x/week programs, hence why you're not enjoying yourself and probably not making many gains

if you've ever played a high school sport, you've probably noticed how people who've been athletic since childhood had a lot more fun and played overall better than the newly recruited couch potatoes who struggled every session and hated practice

1st priority - health, fitness, fun
2nd priority - competing

This is true and I have personally witnessed it. I went from being a skinny couch potato to weightlifting 5 days a week pretty quickly starting in September 2015. I've definitely gained the size to show for it, but after 8 months of it I do feel like I'm burned out and could use a change in programming (probably permanently). I also have a full time career as a high school teacher (in between classes right now) so I don't necessarily have the time or desire to continue to do the Catalyst programs which are 5x a week and take almost 2 hours every night. It's just a bit much for a guy who has no interest in ever making it to even just a national level. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed the work I've put into it because I certainly have but it's not something that is sustainable for me long term. I'll probably knock it down to 3-4 days a week and learn some programming fundamentals while I'm at it.
