Higher reps. It tends to work better on a rep range progression than just trying to add weight consistently. Start at 12-15, add weight when you get to 20 for all your sets. Or something like that.

3x5 for compound lifts and 3x10 for assistance lifts is a good rule of thumb, theoretically delts are mostly slow twitch muscle that grows best from ultra high volume(6x20). The jury is still out as to whether this actually works better than lower reps tho

When I was having physiotherapy after a car accident my swole as fuck sportsman physio told me lateral raises are basically garbage and horrible for your shoulder joint, and that OHP with proper form and Arnolds are all you really need

Why would you stick to the exact same weight over and over? I'm not advocating low reps, but what's the use of doing 8 for 10 reps if you can do 14 for the same amount of reps. You'll need progressive overload.

First off some "he" like it's not. If you indeed can lat raise 40kg that's somewhat impressive however I doubt it. Plus your form is probably like those guys who "curl" 70 lbs (see weighted extreme arm-swinging back-benders). Not to mention if I trained like that I probably could too within a couple months. I just don't see the point and I like having healthy shoulders.

I don't truly max on anything, just 3 REO max. But that's a different subject entirely.

Have only been lifting for a few months, but making some progress. In the start I was struggling with 5 kg dumbbells and could only do like 7-8 reps with bad form at the end, now I can at least lift a bit more with relatively good form.

I am arguing for him because I find the arguments against him insufficient, and I didn't see him defending himself.


I train high difficulty calisthenics and the majority of those moves would be considered unhealthy or very bad for one rep maxes for a beginner, but if you work up to them they are fine. It's the same with heavy singles for other exercises.

Stick to compound moves like bench presses or even push ups, then move to dumbell shoulder presses and practice good form. that'll give you the strenght necessary to perform it correctly and you'll grow. You don't need this isolation exercise right now.
